Today's USMNT news includes Christian Pulisic moving closer to joining AC Milan. Tim Ream is dreaming of playing at the next World Cup and the Stars and Stripes will play Canada in the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup.
USMNT news: Christian Pulisic to AC Milan
Olympique Lyonnais as a possible destination for Chelsea's Christian Pulisic has been thrown out the window after it was reported that the American would turn down a move to the French side. Lyon has now also been sanctioned by DNCG (National Directorate of Management Control) for financial irregularities, so they would not have been able to sign Pulisic anyway.
This has opened to door for AC Milan to seal the deal for the captain of the USMNT. Fabrizio Romano has reported that "Milan and Christian Pulisic, getting closer. After personal terms agreed and player pushing since last week, clubs now close to agree on the fee. €22m second bid submitted and talks progressing to final stages."
Moving to Milan would be better for Pulisic than Lyon as the Italian side will be in the Champions League next season. However, Pulisic must ensure he plays regularly at the Serie A side as he has struggled for game time whilst at Stamford Bridge.
USMNT news: Tim Ream's World Cup dream
Tim Ream proved that he is one of the best center-back options for the USMNT last season as he starred for Fulham. He made it back into the USA squad for the World Cup in Qatar and he wants to play at the tournament in 2026 which his county is co-hosting.
The defender is now 35 but believes there is no reason that he should not be giving up hope of playing in the next World Cup. Ream told ESPN, "I've made it to a World Cup and I've achieved my dream.'
"But the more I thought about it, I thought, 'Why can't I get to another one?' I had that taste and I'm like, 'I want another one.' So that's where I'm at. I sometimes feel like people are trying to retire me, but I'm not ready for that."
USMNT news: Canada fixture
The USMNT will play Canada in the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup this Sunday. The Stars and Stripes beat the Canadians in the final of the Nations League, albeit with very different squads.
B.J. Callaghan will have a new player on his roster as Jackson Yueill has replaced Alan Sonora who suffered a hamstring injury. All eyes will be on Jesus Ferreira who has scored back-to-back hat-tricks in the last two games.
