Already on draft night, Victor Wenbanyama is already one of the most unique players to join the NBA.
According to ESPN stats and info, Victor Wenbanyama will be joining the basketball record books before even signing his NBA contract. He is the sixth NBA Draft pick that does not have a college background. Wenbanyama, a French player, ended up playing in his home country rather than going to an American college.
The other players on the list are Andrea Bargnani, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Yao Ming and Kwame Brown. While some of these players ended up playing overseas, all of these players come during the high school era. This just shows how dominant and transcendent a talent Wenbanyama is projected to be.
He is a player who was a no-doubt first-overall pick after his game against the Overtime Elite during the fall. Some people even thought it would be smart for the player to not play at all for the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 this season. Rather than do that, he decided to play the entire season.
The hype went up and he earned himself a lot more money (advertisements) by staying in the limelight for the entire season. He was also able to develop an even bigger following in France do to this.
What does the Spurs' future look like?
The Spurs do not have as many assets as the Pelicans had when they selected Zion Williamson. Still, the war chest is full of picks for other teams. They have a collection of first-round picks from the Hawks. They also have first-round picks from the Bulls, Raptors, and Celtics over the coming years.
This is a team with a bright future now that they have their overseas star. The team also has solid pieces in Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Malaki Branham and others. This is a team on the rise. They will probably not make the playoffs this season but Wenbanyama's had a good chance of success due to the fact that the Spurs can surround him with a lot of talent.
