What is Rex Heuermann's net worth? Alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer lived in luxurious 1,323 sq ft apartment before his arrest

LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: New York City architect, Rex Heuermann, had been living quietly in the Nassau County town of Massapequa Park when a special task force apprehended him on July 13 in connection to the infamous Gilgo Beach murders that wreaked havoc on Long Island for more than a decade. The 59-year-old married father of two was then charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.

The reputed architect is also the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The remains of four sex workers, known as the 'Gilgo Four,' were found bound and hidden on an isolated Long Island beach in December 2010. New court documents revealed that police traced Heuremann with the help of a burner phone that he used to contact the alleged victims. Another key piece of evidence linking him to the murders was a strand of his hair that was allegedly found at the bottom of a hessian bag that had been used to wrap Waterman's body. Heuermann may have pleaded not guilty to the charges but his arrest sent shock waves through his quiet community as neighbors him described as a well-dressed man who largely kept to himself.

What is Rex Heuermann's net worth?

Heuermann is described to be a reputed architect based in midtown Manhattan, where he ran his own architectural firm RHC Consultants & Associates, Inc. As of 2023, his net worth was estimated to be around $7 Million. The alleged serial killer, in his professional capacity, provided services to real estate clients like the Catholic Charities, NYC-DEP Sewerage Treatment, American Airlines, and other major tenants at JFK International Airport. Heuermann is connected to nearly 300 separate projects in New York City and throughout all five boroughs, per information acquired by The Post.

Before his arrest, Heuermann lived in a cozy one-story house not far from the beach highway where human remains were first found more than a decade ago. He reportedly purchased the run-down home at 105 First Ave. in Massapequa Park in 1994 — the same year he launched his architecture firm. He purchased the small six-room property for just $170,000, according to NY Post. Built in 1956, the residence occupies a modest 1,323 square feet of space and has a full basement, with one fireplace. On Sunday, New York state police removed a massive haul of weapons from Heuermann’s house, a day after searching the property for any trophies from the victims.

‘He is a gem to deal with’

Following Heuermann's arrest, those who worked with him described him as fastidious, who often annoyed some of his clients with attention to detail. '(He is) a gem to deal with, highly knowledgeable,' said Steve Kramberg, a property manager in Brooklyn who worked with Heuermann for 30 years. He said Heuermann was a "big goofy guy" who was "a little bit on the nerdy side," which showed through as a committed worker who was exceedingly meticulous in his work. However, neighbors saw him differently, with Nicholas Ferchaw saying that when he was a kid "we would cross the street," calling Heuermann "somebody you don't want to approach," according to Daily Mail.
