LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bijou Phillips, the wife of Danny Masterson, was overwhelmed with emotion on Wednesday, May 31, as her husband was pronounced guilty of raping two women. Masterson was immediately denied bail and escorted to the cells, leaving Phillips in tears.
Supporting her through this difficult time were her half-sister, singer Chynna Phillips, and Chynna's husband, actor Billy Baldwin, as captured by Daily Mail. Billy Baldwin, the third among the four Baldwin brothers, faced a barrage of online commentary regarding his brother-in-law's arrest. Internet users had plenty to say about the situation, expressing their opinions and thoughts to Baldwin in response to the news.
'You still support your cultist rapist brother-in-law?'
People took to Twitter, with one person writing, "Danny Masterson’s brother-in-law is Alec Baldwin’s brother Billy Baldwin I’ve watch these pieces of shit get away with unspeakable crimes again and again. I cannot say to who but their paid protection has run out. This is a huge shift in the control Scientology has had for." Another asked, "Billy no comment on the rape conviction of Masterson?" An angry user questioned, "You still support your cultist rapist brother-in-law @dannymasterson? What about your domestic abuser brother Alec?" Another wrote, "How did it feel sitting next to your rapist brother in law today in court?"
Statements by Masterson's victims
Masterson faced accusations of raping three women, with the alleged incidents occurring in 2001 and 2003. One of the victims, "N.T." emailed a statement to Legal Affairs and Trials, saying, "I am experiencing a complex array of emotions — relief, exhaustion, strength, sadness — knowing that my abuser, Danny Masterson, will face accountability for his criminal behavior. I am disappointed that he was not convicted on all counts, but take great solace in the fact that he, the Church of Scientology, and others, will have to fully account for their abhorrent actions in civil court."
Masterson’s former girlfriend, Chrissie Carnell-Bixler, also issued a statement, saying, "I thank the jury for its service, and while I’m encouraged that Danny Masterson will face some criminal punishment, I am devastated that he has dodged criminal accountability for his heinous conduct against me," said Carnell-Bixler, who has publicly identified herself as a "rape and cult survivor." "Despite my disappointment in this outcome, I remain determined to secure justice, including in civil court, where I, along with my co-plaintiffs, will shine a light on how Scientology and other conspirators enabled and sought to cover up Masterson’s monstrous behavior."
