SAG HARBOR, NEW YORK: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were among the celebrities who attended the Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center For The Arts annual summer gala in Sag Harbor, New York. According to Broadway World, the pair participated in the event to show their support for the nonprofit organization that seeks to inspire, educate, and amuse through the performing arts and because they were one of the three recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Broderick and Parker received Lifetime Achievement Awards for their significant contributions to American theatre over the years, as per Daily Mail.
It was their shared love of theater that initially brought Parker and Broderick together in 1991, and they later married in 1997. The loving couple, having been married for almost 30 years, share three kids together: James Wilkie, Tabitha Hodge, and Marion Loretta Elwell. They are one of the rare couples who have successfully navigated the tumultuous world of Hollywood romance and are still going strong.

After dating for a couple of years and less than a year after making their Broadway debut, Parker and Broderick got married in 1997. In one of the most surprising ceremonies ever, Parker and Broderick exchanged vows on May 19, 1997, and made their marriage official. The couple staged a typical celebration and invited 100 guests to the Angel Orensanz Synagogue in New York to attend their private wedding ceremony and reception, which lasted until two in the morning.
'Too embarrassed to get married in white'
Even while the unplanned union was a surprise in itself, Parker's all-black wedding dress was the real talk of the town. The actress admitted that she first purchased her black, ruffled Morgane Le Fay gown in an effort to keep her wedding simple. Parker reasoned that, unlike purchasing a white bridal gown, purchasing an off-the-rack black dress would not draw much attention.
SJP admitted to 'Marie Claire' in 2006, "I was too embarrassed to get married in white, and both Matthew and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us." Ironically, it was her black dress that attracted the most attention—a style that has been a staple of wedding fashion for more than 20 years and has become a global trend for brides.
Despite having three beautiful children and a successful 26-year marriage, Parker's only wedding-day regret is her attire. Black is a contentious choice for any bride, but it is especially controversial for someone who has become a fashion symbol of all time. The 'Sex and the City' star revealed to Harper's Bazaar in 2009 that if she had to reiterate her vows, the one thing she would change would be to have a white wedding ceremony. Parker told the magazine, "I'd wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress like I should have worn that day."
