When Joe Rogan weighed in on celebrity worship culture, discussing stars like Taylor Swift and Kanye West: ‘It’s a biological trick’

AUSTIN, TEXAS: Joe Rogan's social commentary is largely responsible for his fame and appeal. The veteran UFC analyst covers a broad range of subjects in his podcast on 'The Joe Rogan Experience'. The 55-year-old occasionally makes appearances on other popular shows to participate in conversations about distinctive topics.

He made one such visit to Ben Shapiro‘s show in October 2022. Rogan and Shapiro talked about why people worship celebrities during their conversation together. Shapiro talked about famous people like Kid Rock and Kanye West who had, at the time, been in the news for 'running for president' and the Senate, respectively. Let's have a look on what Rogan said.

'It’s a biological trick'

On an episode titled, 'The Celebrity Halo Effect, with Joe Rogan', Rogan name-dropped several celebrities, including the likes of Taylor Swift and Brad Pitt, to illustrate his point on why people worship celebrities. Giving his explanation to Shapiro, Joe Rogan said, “It’s a biological trick and what it is is, when you evolved when all of us lived thousands of years ago, we looked to the most successful member of the tribe. The one who’s older, the one that everybody revered, he could relay to you the lessons of a life well-lived.”

He continued, “All this stuff now gets relayed to someone who’s on a giant screen, We do that for anybody that gets attention whether it’s Kim Kardashian or Taylor Swift. We see these people and millions of people are paying attention to them. So we assume that there’s some quality behind everything that they’re saying, there’s something special about them, but there’s not. It’s a biological trick.”

'He was such an outsider'

Not only this, but, Rogan said that this biological trick gets perpetrated by the media that put these celebrities on screens where people see them over and over again. Rogan agrees that this is how Donald Trump got elected as US president. He claimed that Trump effectively prevailed in a popularity contest to become the next US president. Additionally, the former 'Fear Factor' host cautioned viewers against valuing famous people's opinions above those of educators and public intellectuals.

Earlier Rogan laid emphasis on Trump getting power. He said,"I mean, who the f*** is gonna sign off on getting rid of all the special interest groups, getting rid of all the lobbyists? No one." He added "So it’s like, that’s why it was fascinating to see a guy like Trump getting into power because he was such an outsider."
