What to expect from 'The Idol' Episode 3?

What happened on 'The Idol' Episode 2?

'The Idol' isn't known for being subtle. The episode opened with Jocelyn (Lily) in a tiny crop top and low-rise jeans discussing her new sound, indicating that sex was on her mind. But when Levinson's new song literally began with a lady — presumably her — theatrically groaning, it was a little too on the nose. Jocelyn reflected on her night with Tedros (The Weeknd) as she tried to figure out the next step for her song. That reminiscence swiftly led to Jocelyn choking herself and pleasuring herself with her glass full of ice crystals. By the way, Jocelyn had choked herself while masturbating for the second time in as many episodes. Naturally, she phoned Tedros to schedule a second round in the next scene.

The majority of Episode 2 focused on Jocelyn producing her debut music video following her mother's death and subsequent mental breakdown. Everyone was waiting to see if Jocelyn still had "it," so the pressure was on. But Jocelyn was three and a half hours late before she ever arrived at site. Several members of her team confess in whispers that the delay was necessary so that her makeup artist could cover up the self-harm scars on her thighs. The HBO series made no attempt to hide Jocelyn's self-inflicted injuries. Jocelyn threw in the towel for a second after a particularly athletic take and removed her shoes, showing her injured feet and opening her bloody thighs.

As Jocelyn struggled to finish her music video, the program briefly returned to what Tedros was up to, giving us our first sight of his headquarters. Tedros urged Izaak (Moses Sumney), a guy in a skin-tight costume, to descend deeper to the ground while half-naked individuals surrounded him. Tedros stunned him with a collar every time he failed. All of this was part of Tedros' strategy to make this regular man into a celebrity.

Jocelyn may have been unable to complete her music video, but her manager, Nikki (Jane Adams), did not have a completely disastrous day. Nikki invited Dyanne (Jennie Ruby Jane) to perform for her after spotting one of the backup dancers. Nikki's spontaneous audition resulted in a management offer. The only hitch in this corporate synergy strategy is Dyanne's employment with Tedros. When she presented the offer to him, he said it would assist cover what she owed him. What she owes him and how much she owes him remain unknown.

Chloe (Suzanna Son) stood in the closet watching Jocelyn and Tedros hook up in Jocelyn's bedroom. That's only one of the stunning events involving Chloe. Tedros' follower also spent most of her time at Jocelyn's house naked, replete with a naked piano performance. The camera didn't see Jocelyn and Tedros physically having sex this time, but it didn't have to. Tedros urged Jocelyn to bend into specific postures after directing her to put on a blindfold. Their second rendezvous was filled with particularly skimpy lingerie and a lot of close-ups of Lily's body, blurring the borders between premium smut and XXX.

'The Idol' airs new episodes every Sunday on Max at 9 pm ET.
