Where is Lauren Cook? 'Missing' Virginia mom claims she's safe but fears being separated from her children

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VIRGINIA: After more than three weeks of mysterious disappearance alongside her three children, Lauren Cook, a Virginia mom, has emerged from the shadows, assuring that they are not in any danger.

Lauren, aged 30, disclosed that she had embarked on a pre-planned, out-of-state vacation with her three children - Benjamin (7), Hannah (5), and Elijah (2), before authorities initiated a nationwide search. This search was sparked by allegations of child abuse, neglect, drug use, and mental health issues purportedly taking place at her Franklin County, Virginia home, which she shares with her husband, Jordan Cook.

What led to the anonymous complaint against the Cooks?

Lauren and Jordan vehemently denied these allegations, which were outlined in a complaint submitted to the Franklin County Department of Social Services. Despite their protestations of innocence, Lauren feared being separated from her children during the investigation, prompting her to stay away from Franklin County.

"My wife and I have been slandered and defamed ... through an anonymous complaint without a shred of evidence," Jordan said.

"This complaint was deemed sufficient cause to try and force our children out of our custody, and afterwards we would have to fight the allegations while our three kids sit in foster care."

The complaint against the Cooks was eventually dropped during a hearing held on Wednesday.

"We have no criminal charges against us, are upstanding citizens and members of our community, and we are loving parents," Jordan said, revealed The Messenger.

The Cook family's troubles began with an anonymous complaint filed in late August, alleging that Jordan was a cult leader who physically and sexually abused their children.

The complaint also claimed that Lauren was a victim of Stockholm Syndrome, a psychological condition in which hostages develop a bond with their captors.

Although the Cooks were unsettled by these accusations, they cooperated with agency investigators when they showed up at their home on August 28.

However, they became wary when investigators requested to interview their children as part of the Department of Social Services (DSS) investigation.

What promoted Lauren Cook to embark on a 'pre-planned vacation'?

Lauren insisted that the request made her "uncomfortable" since there was no evidence supporting the allegations against them.

Following her decision to consult with an attorney, she embarked on what she described as a "pre-planned vacation" to visit family over the Labor Day weekend.

“They didn't tell me that I was under some investigation or that I needed to stay put so we left to go out of town,” she said.

Lauren revealed that she missed a court appearance on the emergency removal order in the Franklin County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court on September 5 and also missed the rescheduled hearing on September 13 because she was traveling and had not been notified to appear before a judge.

A missing person's report was filed by a family member after her second missed court date, leading to search efforts by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

While the search located Lauren in Illinois, authorities were unable to establish contact with her. Jordan publicly disputed the notion of his family being "missing," asserting that he had no concerns about their safety or well-being.

Nevertheless, the search for Lauren and her three children persisted.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children joined the search efforts, emphasizing that protocol dictates that a missing person investigation continues until law enforcement establishes in-person contact "to ensure that they are okay and not under any duress."

Lauren expressed fear during the search, believing that authorities were trying to take her children away.
