SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA: HGTV is all set to bring exciting 90's nostalgia back with the new renovation show, 'Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge'. The new competition series is inspired by the iconic Mattel doll and 'the excitement surrounding the upcoming release' of Warner Bros. Pictures' 'Barbie'.

'Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge' will feature 15 HGTV stars and one Food Network chef as they transform a house into a life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse. Hosted by model and past Barbie inspiration, Ashley Graham, the series tasks eight duo teams of celebrity designers with tricking out an assigned space in a Barbie-worthy mansion.

Where was the 'Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge' filmed?

HGTV is bringing 'the biggest, boldest, most Barbiest build of all playtime'. Eight different teams on the HGTV series will transform areas of a California-based home "with an era-specific style, such as an early 1960s atomic age kitchen, a ‘70s disco vibe for Ken's Den and a main bedroom decked out in 80s glam and more. Notably, once it's completed, one Barbie fan will get the chance to win a sleepover staycation at the Dreamhouse, while the winning design team will have a donation made in their name to 'Save the Children'. But where was the Barbie home makeover filmed? We'll have you know, the decorators weren't working on any old house; they were renovating a mansion in Southern California.

The doll was introduced in 1959, so each area in the mansion corresponds to a different decade from her past. The entryway, living room, and dining room are awash in '90s neon, while the kitchen and family room hearkens back to the '60s, with Space Age flourishes.

Designers give a retro take to the mansion

The first episode of 'Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge' is all about the 60s and 90s inspiration, with each team transforming their assigned rooms into 'Barbie Dreamhouse' inspired visions from their respective decades. Roth and Lofaso were assigned to design the kitchen which features pretty pastels, vintage appliances, and a matching patterned backsplash. Meanwhile, in the living room, a fireplace burns alongside a one-of-a-kind couch plucked straight from the original 'Barbie Dreamhouse', with wooden TV dinner trays that pop out seamlessly.

However, as seen in the HGTV show trailer, Sherrod and Jackson renovated the entryway and recreated the 90s, with bright, neon splashes of colour, a huge custom fireplace, and handmade 'stained glass' windows featuring Barbie head silhouettes. A bright pink, curved staircase at the door and geometric designs lining the walls exuded perfect "Barbie vibes".

'Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge' will premiere on Sunday, July 16 at 8 pm ET on HGTV.
