LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: CoCo Lee's estranged husband Bruce Rockowitz has honored the late Disney performer along with her family in a heartfelt obituary. The Hong Kong-born American artist, who played the title character and sang in the Mandarin-dubbed version of 'Mulan' and also performed the Oscar-nominated song 'A Love Before Time' for 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', died by suicide on July 5 at the age of 48.
Lee's husband of 11 years recently published an obituary signed by the singer's older sisters Carol and Nancy, who had earlier announced news of her death on Facebook, as well as her stepdaughters Rachel and Sarah. Multiple media publications have stated that the Disney singer had been separated from her Canadian millionaire husband for more than a year.
Who is Bruce Rockowitz?
Bruce Rockowitz is a Canadian businessman who formerly served as supply chain company Li&Fung's CEO from 2011 to 2014. He was born in 1958, spent his formative years in Boston, Massachusetts, and then moved to Hong Kong. In addition, Rockowitz is the co-founder of the Pure Group restaurant and fitness business and the chairman of Rock Media International. The gifted business tycoon has a professional tennis background and even left his University of Vermont studies in 1979 to focus on tennis, as per Daily Mail.
Coco and Bruce exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony in October 2011 after eight years of dating. Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, The Black Eyed Peas, and Ne-Yo all performed at their wedding meal. The extravagant event was said to have cost $12 million, including lodging and travel expenses for the celeb guests. 'I just wanna marry u' is a song that Coco released especially for the event. Rumors of the couple's breakup started to surface about three years ago, but they were never confirmed and Coco never addressed the claims. The businessman has two daughters named Rachel and Sarah frm a previous marriage but the performer, on the other hand, never had biological children of her own.
Bruce breaks his silence after Lee's death
According to the obituary, which was printed in Chinese and distributed widely, Lee died on July 5 "after a long struggle with depression" and "with all her family by her side." The tribute further stated, "Coco was a beautiful, warm and kind person, inside and out. She was an all-around singer-songwriter, a talented performer, and a woman who cared about the younger generation. A mentor, loving wife, beloved friend and dear family member. Her warmth and sincerity brought sunshine to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. Her influence and light will go on forever." Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date, according to Lee's obituary.
