FREEDOM, NEW YORK: Evan Klink, a New York man has been taken into custody after facing a multitude of charges after killing his sister and niece in a head-on car crash while he was allegedly impaired by drugs.
On June 17, the 21-year-old man was driving a Dodge Ram and he veered across the center line of a road before he smashed a 2005 Ford Focus which carried multiple passengers, including his sister, and her six-year-old daughter, as per the New York State police statement released on Thursday, September 21, reported Law and Crime.
How did Evan Klink get caught?
According to the authorities' statement, "Investigation determined that a 2006 Dodge Ram traveling westbound on Freedom Road crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2005 Ford Focus traveling eastbound."
"The operator of the Ford, Dahlia J Klink, 24 of Freedom, NY, and a four-year-old passenger were taken by Mercy Flight for serious injuries."
Two other passengers in the Ford, Havanah S Lopez, 17, of Java, New York, and Dahlia's daughter Molly Kibler, six, were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the New York State Police, Evan was transported to SP Warsaw where he was evaluated and treated for injuries at the time. 19-year-old Cameron Klink who was a passenger in the Dodge was shifted to Mercy Flight with serious wounds.
However, Dahlia who was being treated at the Erie County Medical Center succumbed to her injuries the following day.
After a three-month investigation into the case, Evan has been charged with the murder of Kibler, Lopez, and his sister Dahlia on Thursday, according to New York Post.
What are the charges against Evan Klink?
Nearly three months after the incident, Evan was arrested for three counts of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of first-degree vehicular manslaughter, one count of first-degree vehicular assault, driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, and other vehicle traffic tickets, according to police.
"The New York State Police and the Cattaraugus District Attorney’s Office working in collaboration, effectively made the indictment and arrest on the charges of Evan Klink," the police stated on Thursday.
"The operators of both vehicles involved were brother and sister."
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing and multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Arcade Fire Department, and Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office assisted in investigating the case.
