ELK GROVE, CALIFORNIA: Authorities reported that months after his wife died from a lethal amount of fentanyl, a Sacramento County man has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her to death. According to the Elk Grove Police Department, the California resident who said he discovered his wife in an unconscious state in January is now facing murder charges after it was found that he supposedly laced her food with a fatal dose of fentanyl.
Glennis Smith, 48, was detained on July 26 on suspicion of killing his wife, Jennifer Smith-Floyd, 49, on January 12, as per the police. According to a statement released by the police department on July 28, Glennis called 911 on the morning of January 12 to report that his 49-year-old wife was unconscious, as per PEOPLE Magazine.

The couple had been married for five years but were living apart for a while before the incident occurred. After Glennis contacted 911 on January 12, 2023, firefighters and police officers quickly arrived at the residence to provide first aid, but Jennifer was declared dead. During the lengthy investigation, it was discovered that Jennifer had fentanyl in her system. Detectives later found that Glennis had purposefully added fentanyl to his wife's food on two occasions unbeknownst to her. Notably, Glennis was earlier sentenced to prison for spousal rape from a previous marriage, according to court records obtained by CBS News.
Jennifer's family described her as an amazing woman who was always there for others, and they believed that she was in a bad marriage. "The first thought that I had was that he did it," Jennifer's best friend, Dorie Suathojame, stated after Glennis' was detained. "She was always there to help. She had a really big heart.
