INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA: Masami Odate aka Iyo Sky, is a distinguished Japanese professional wrestler from Japan who proudly holds the prestigious title of the current WWE Women’s Champion.
The 33-year-old, who regularly showcases her skills on WWE's SmackDown, is often hailed as the "Genius of the Sky" for her impressive high-flying moves. She is especially known for her signature move, the Moonsault, as per WWE.
A leading Japanese newspaper, Tokyo Sports, has honored Sky three times with the title of the Top Women’s Wrestler of the Year.
During a press conference after her Saturday, October 7, match, the WWE star was surprisingly asked if she was for fighting Taylor Swift and her reaction was truly memorable.
WWW star Iyo Sky asked about fighting Taylor Swift in the ring
Iyo Sky successfully defended her WWE Women’s Championship at Fastlane on Saturday night, triumphing over Charlotte Flair and Asuka in a triple-threat match.
She managed to pin Flair with a moonsault right after her Damage CTRL teammate Bayley had diverted the referee’s attention.
Both Sky and Bayley, along with their fellow Damage CTRL member Dakota Kai, participated in WWE’s official Fastlane press conference.
However, the champion was caught off guard by the first question she was asked as instead of probing her about the recent title defense, the journalist posed an unexpected question related to Taylor Swift.
He asked if Sky would be willing to defend her WWE Women’s Championship against pop sensation Swift at next year’s WrestleMania 40, set to take place in the pop sensation's home state of Pennsylvania.
Naturally, the WWE star as well as nearly everyone else watching the news conference, was perplexed by the question. She gave the reporter a second look before asking bluntly, "Are you crazy?" as Kai and Bayley just chuckled.
Then, Sky stated, "If she wants, then I'm ready for Taylor Swift."
Internet reacts to Iyo Sky being asked about fighting Taylor Swift
After the press conference, Iyo Sky took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, "Thank you so much for tonight guys!!"
She added, "Who will be the next challenger for this my title? The answer should not be Taylor Swift!!!!" alluding to the baffling question and her followers were quick to respond.
"WWE Women's Championship in Taylor Swift's WWE In-Ring Debut!!! BRING IT ON!!!" wrote a fan, while one asked, "What about Madonna."
A die-hard Sky fan mentioned, "SO PROUD OF YOUUUUUU. TAYLOR SWIFT HAS NOTHING ON YOU!!"
"It's crazy how everyone is trying to capitalise Taylor name. This is what happens when you are too famous," said a disgruntled Swift fan.
A person quipped, "Bros acting like he asked the question everyone’s been thinking of," while a user suggested, "Take this man's press pass away immediately."
