Who is Jackalynn D’Auria? Florida woman to serve maximum sentence for fatally stabbing her mom over heated argument

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Florida woman named Jackalynn D'Auria has been sentenced to lengthy prison time for fatally stabbing her mother in the chest as a result of an argument.

For the "brutal stabbing death" of D'Auria's 36-year-old mother Amanda Ervin, Circuit Judge Charles Crawford sentenced her to serve a sentence of 30 years which she will be spending in a state correctional facility, reported Law and Crime.

What led Jackalynn D'Auria to fatally stab her mother?

The 22-year-old stabbed her mother during an argument over her "relationship" with one of Ervin's friends that led to a deadly confrontation in 2020.

On Friday, August 18, the judge handed down the maximum possible sentence to the murderer, one month after she was found guilty of one count of manslaughter with a weapon or firearm in the death of her mother, as per court records.

D'Auria was saved from a potential life sentence after she was acquitted on one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

The 22-year-old has been credited with 1,028 days of time she has already served.

In a statement given after the sentencing hearing, the 18th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office stated. "I’m grateful we were able to deliver justice on behalf of Amanda and her family."

"I hope they can find some solace in knowing that D’Auria couldn’t escape justice and that every word spoken on behalf of Amanda [Ervin] was heard," stated Assistant State Attorney Samantha Barrett.

Jackalynn D'Auria attempted to disguise herself

Police responded to the crime scene on October 24, 2020, and identified the victim who suffered from a single stab wound to the chest.

Ervin was immediately shifted to the Palm Bay Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Before losing consciousness, the victim said: "multiple witnesses outside the residence that the defendant stabbed her."

Investigators were told that the witnesses heard a "loud argument coming from the garage area" and they "observed" the defendant "fleeing the residence northbound on Canal Lane". But they were able to locate her eventually when she was "hiding on a bus" and “attempting to disguise herself."

D'Auria was then arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Jackalynn D'Auria claimed she fatally stabbed her mother in self-defense

D’Auria told investigators that she was in the bedroom of her home when Ervin came in and started battering her, according to the affidavit.

The defendant told that she "pulled a knife and stabbed the victim to stop the altercation" claiming that she killed her in self-defense before she discarded the weapon in a yard and fled the crime scene.
