CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: A Chicago man was so frustrated after his girlfriend broke up with him, that he hired an assassin to kill her.

She was in a vehicle when someone came running and started firing gunshots. She was hit and pronounced dead at the scene as per North Chicago police.

The officials reached the scene after someone reported gunshots being fired in the 1000 block of Victoria Avenue around 6.05 am. After reaching, they found a woman shot to death inside a vehicle in a driveway.

Who is Misael Chavarin-Plazola?

Earlier, cops announced that the incident seemed to be a targeted attack, and an arrest is yet to be made.

As per authorities, Seferino Calihua-Rodriguez allegedly hired Misael Chavarin-Plazola, 26, also a resident of Waukegan to carry out the murder.

Chavarin-Plazola reportedly tried shooting a second person, who was entering the vehicle with the woman, police said.

Luckily, the shots missed the other person. According to records, Calihua-Rodriguez was arrested on Friday, September 22, and Chavarin-Plazola was taken into custody on Saturday, September 23.

“The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, our Violent Crimes Unit, and our forensic team did an amazing job to solve one of the most calculated and cold-blooded murders we have ever seen,” said Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart in a statement to WGN.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office said they are still working to notify the victim’s family, and after that, the identity of the victim will be revealed.

Pennsylvania man convicted of first-degree murder

In an unrelated case, a Pennsylvania man was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges for shooting his former girlfriend Tamara Cornelius and their unborn baby at a gas station in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, in April 2022.

Cornelius, a 31-year-old mother-of-three, was 14 weeks pregnant with Rafiq Thompson’s child at the time of her death, reports MEAWW.

She had met up briefly with Thompson for dinner before the convict followed her to the Exxon Station at 113 N Gulph Road and opened fire on her as she pumped gas, prosecutors informed.

He continued to shoot her as she tried to run away, the DA’s office added.

Montgomery County DA also tweeted, "Jury finds Rafiq Thompson guilty of First-Degree Murder in the killing to Tamara Cornelius and First-Degree Murder of her unborn baby as well as other charges. It now moves to the death penalty phase."

“This violent criminal is now safely behind bars due to the great work of the Upper Merion Police and Montgomery County Detectives," DA Steele said at the time of his arrest.
