Who was Jodi Marie Brewer? Police to ‘re-evaluate’ two-decade-old murder case for possible connection to Rex Heuermann

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: A two-decade-old murder case is expected to be re-opened after the arrest of Rex Heuermann. It has been speculated that the architect might be involved in the death of Jodi Marie Brewer, who was killed in 2003, around the same time Heuermann was allegedly active.

Jodi Marie's mother Pamela Brewer said, as reported by RadarOnline.com, “Hearing the whole Rex thing, it's totally different now because it gives us a little hope.” Jodi’s sister Jacqueline also stated, “Hopefully, we can get some resolutions.”

What are the allegations against Rex Heuermann?

Heuermann is currently in custody under “extra precautions” after being accused of killing Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Amber Lynn Costello, 22; and Megan Waterman, 27. The 59-year-old has also been declared the prime suspect in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

All the women were prostitutes, who went missing during a visit to their clients in the 2000s. Eventually, their remains were found near Gilgo Beachside during the search for escort Shannan Gilbert in 2010.

Who was Jodi Marie Brewer?

Brewer was a 19-year-old girl who was reportedly murdered in 2003. At the time, she was also working as a sex worker, like the other alleged victims of Heuermann.

Now, her mother has spoken about the day she last saw her daughter before her disappearance on August 14. She told News12 Brooklyn, “She had gone out for the night, and she said, 'I love you, mom.' She said, 'I’ll see you in the morning,' and I said, 'I love you' to Jodi. And I never saw her again.”

Referring to Heuermann, Pamela said, “It seems to me like the area that he bought the condos in was prostitution areas and that it would have been really easy for him.”

Why did Jodi Marie Brewe's murder become a cold case?

Jodi’s case reportedly became a cold case because of the slow progress of the probe. In 2003, months after her torso was found in San Bernardino County, California, her mother told Las Vegas Sun, “She was so radiant, so beautiful that night. She said, 'I love you mom' ... I told her I'd see her tomorrow.”

She continued, “I can't have closure. I lost my best friend.” Pamela also added, “I think (the killer) was out to commit the perfect crime and leave as little of her as possible. But she had those tattoos. ... She was meant to have them,” referring to the discovery of the torso.

The cold case of Jessie Foster

Another victim’s family has also shared their hope to finally get closure after Heuermann’s alleged criminal acts have come to light. Jessie Foster vanished in March 2006 and is reportedly presumed dead.

Now, her mother Glendene Grant has told KTNV 13, “What I miss the most about Jessie is the sense of humor. She loved to dance, joke around, and play pranks. I didn't get to see a 30, 40-year-old Jessie. I don't know what kind of woman she would have been.”

She also stated, “I just hope they get all the evidence they need and put him where he belongs.”
