Why did Robin Roberts snap at Lara Spencer on live show? ‘GMA’ happy segment takes an awkward turn

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Good Morning America’ star Robin Roberts is back in the studios much to the delight of her fans. The 62-year-old returned from an assignment in London with her co-host Lara Spencer and resumed her duties behind the desk. The camaraderie between the two women on their work trip was evident through their continuous social media posts but a return to the US has started on a sour note.

In the latest episode of the morning show, Robin was reporting on a happy segment that lifted everyone’s spirits. When it was time for Lara to sign off the segment on a high with some positivity, she dropped a health warning, ruining the segment for co-host Robin. This prompted Robin to snap at her co-host for wrapping up a heartwarming story by giving viewers a scary health warning.

What did Lara Spencer say?

Robin introduced a segment about a 15-year-old girl swimming around Manhattan for a good cause. Lara revealed details about this girl who is a high school junior named Maya and has now completed a 28 1/2-mile swim around the island. Lara mentioned that Maya swam under 20 bridges and through three rivers, finishing the swim in eight hours and 43 minutes. Maya revealed that she did the marathon swim for Swim Across America to raise money for cancer research.

Lara later stated that Maya had mangled to raise over $60,000 through fundraising over the past eight years. It was smooth sailing till this point Lara decided to swoop in with a health warning for the viewers. Lara said, "According to our guidelines put out by tour groups, it's okay to swim in the rivers around Manhattan, as long as you keep your head above water and your mouth closed at all times to reduce direct exposure to, and I quote, 'Parasites, bacteria, and other microorganisms found in rivers like the Hudson,’" She even covered her mouth to let everyone aware about the perils of swimming in such waters. The mood in the studio quickly dampened, forcing Robin to intervene. Robin questioned Lara as to why she had to end the segment that way. "It was a feel-good story," Robin joked. Co-anchor George Stephanopoulos who had been silent until now, defended Lara and mentioned, "Cause, you know, somebody else is gonna go jump in the river.” Lara then quickly wrapped up by saying: "We want to make sure everybody is aware. Maya, great job.”

Robin and Lara are back in ‘GMA’ studio

The two ‘GMA’ hosts enjoyed a long work trip in London as they covered the annual Wimbledon tennis event for the morning show. On their trip, Lara and Robin interacted with many tennis professionals, toured the city on a double-decker bus, and enjoyed unlimited access to the tennis courts. The duo was able to cover the tournament with enthusiasm, bringing stories about US Tennis professional Christopher EuBanks, and Bille Jean King among others to light. Even while being away from the studio, Robin and Lara kept the fans engaged with their social media posts.
