WASHINGTON, DC: The launch of the 'Barbie' movie was celebrated with a glamorous cocktail party on Monday, July 17, attended by Ginger Gaetz, the wife of Representative Matt Gaetz, among others. Dressed in colors of the iconic doll, guests, including politicians and members of the Washington Spirit women's basketball team, walked the pink carpet at the British embassy in Washington, DC, sipping on bright pink cocktails. Rep Matt even dared to sport a pink coat to match the theme of the evening.

However, after the event, his wife, Ginger, took to social media to express her disappointment with the movie and criticized Ryan Gosling's performance. "The Barbie I grew up with was a representation of limitless possibilities, embracing diverse careers and feminine empowerment," she wrote in a tweet, adding, "The 2023 Barbie movie, unfortunately, neglects to address any notion of faith or family, and tries to normalize the idea that men and women can't collaborate positively (yuck)."

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the 'Barbie' stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles, and the film was mostly shot in the UK. British officials saw it as an opportunity to showcase the strength of the UK's movie industry. "The UK is Warner Brothers' biggest base outside the US & Barbie was filmed primarily in the UK," tweeted Dame Karen Pierce, the British ambassador, adding, "An excellent example of the UK-US relationship at work in the film industry!"

The residence of the event, designed by Sir William Lutyens, was adorned with disco balls hanging from rose bushes, and guests enjoyed pink-themed food, including burgers and sushi. Attendees had the privilege of an early viewing of the movie, along with a Q&A session with director Greta Gerwig. 'Barbie' is set for general release on Friday, July 21, and has received overall positive reviews for its departure from being a mere marketing venture.

'I really wanted to enjoy it!'

However, the movie is not going without controversy. Republicans, including Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Mike Gallagher, expressed anger over a crayon map in the film featuring the "nine-dash line," which apparently represents China's territorial claims in the South China Sea, and accused Hollywood of perpetuating Chinese Communist Party propaganda. On the other hand, Ginger had the opinion, "Unfortunate portrayal of big dreams causing anxiety instead of inspiration; Disappointingly low T from Ken; Unfair treatment of pregnant Barbie Midge. I really wanted to enjoy it, but ended up feeling let down."
