Why was NFL star Jimmy Graham arrested? Five-time Pro Bowler was found 'wandering in traffic'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: NFL star Jimmy Graham was taken into custody on Friday, August 18.

The veteran New Orleans Saints tight end was found "wandering in traffic" on a street as the team claimed he suffered a seizure, reported TMZ.

Why was Jimmy Graham arrested?

Graham was arrested under suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance while he was near a Southern California resort.

Cops found the football player walking through the streets and while authorities attempted to take him into custody, he resisted.

The five-time Pro Bowler was eventually arrested over two misdemeanors including resisting and delaying and obstruction of a police officer and suspicion of being under a controlled substance.

Who is Jimmy Graham?

Graham's arrest comes just weeks after he returned to his team. After the player sat out the season in 2022 following his two-year stint with the Chicago Bears, he was set to revive his football career, reported TMZ.

His impressive stats of 386 receptions for 4,752 yards and 51 touchdowns and playing alongside renowned quarterback Drew Brees made him one of the best players on the team.

Graham earned two straight Pro Bowl selections during his time with Seattle Seahawks in 2016 and 2017.

The tight end recently reconnected with the iconic New Orleans signal-caller Brees at Saints practice and referred to him as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).

Graham's return to the Saints through the one-year deal guarantees him $1.2 million including a signing bonus of $152,000, according to ESPN.

Did Jimmy Graham get disoriented after a medical episode?

Following the custody, Graham is currently under investigation and has since been released from custody.

On Saturday afternoon, the Saints issued a statement addressing the incident.

The team stated Graham suffered from a "likely seizure" on Friday.

"New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham experienced a medical episode last evening, which resulted in him becoming disoriented," the team explained.

"He was taken into custody by local authorities and transported to a local hospital for evaluation for what Dr. John Amoss believes to be a likely seizure and spent the night under medical supervision and testing," the statement continued.

"Amos met Graham at the hospital and is overseeing his care at this time. He was released this morning and is with the team as they continue preparations for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers," the team stated.
