Will Lori Vallow get the death penalty? 'Doomsday mom' to be sentenced for murder of her children Tylee, 16, and JJ, 7

ST ANTHONY, IDAHO: The unusual murder case of Lori Vallow Daybell, who was convicted of killing her two children, Tylee Ryan and Joshua "JJ" Vallow, whom she referred to as "zombies," as well as her husband's ex-wife, Tammy Daybell, drew nationwide interest. The bodies of the children were located buried at Chad Daybell’s home in 2020. The latest news is that the mother has been set to be sentenced at the Fremont County Courthouse in St Anthony, Idaho, on Monday, July 31, as reported by Sky News.

The macabre drama unfolded over the next three years after the mutilated remains of the children were found, and on May 12, after weeks of heartbreaking testimony, Vallow was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children and conspiring to murder Tammy. Both Vallow and Daybell are in jail, awaiting their destiny, which self-proclaimed doomsday predictor Daybell, who spent years preaching that the world would end on July 22, 2020, most likely did not see coming, claimed Daily Mail.

When Vallow, 50, gets sentenced on Monday morning in a courtroom in Fremont County, Idaho, she could receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Daybell won't be present for the sentencing. He is due to go on trial on April 1, 2024, reported Daily Mail.

Zombies, apocalypse, money, power, and sex

In Vallow's triple murder trial, the prosecution summoned more than 60 witnesses over the course of six weeks. These witnesses delivered shocking and frightening testimony that sent chills throughout the courtroom. No witnesses were called by the defense to dispute their assertions. It was effectively argued by the prosecution that the mother of the apocalypse was driven by "money, power, and sex" and that she utilized all three of these to further her perverted goals. They claimed that Daybell's influence caused her to become obsessed with predictions of an imminent apocalypse and that killing her children was the only way to preserve their souls and ensure that they would be among the 144,000 survivors.

The pair described her children and Daybell's wife to the jury as "obstacles" to the love life they wanted for themselves in Hawaii. According to the prosecution, Vallow and Daybell thought—or deliberately chose to think—that those who stood in their way were "dark" possessed people they described as "zombies." Authorities began investigating the trail of killings that might be related to JJ and Tylee after the two went missing. Daybell was married to Tammy when he first met Vallow. Suddenly, she died in Oct 2019. Her demise was initially deemed to be due to natural causes. Tammy's body was excavated and reexamined while the inquiry into Vallow and Daybell progressed. Tammy had died of asphyxiation, which is identical to the cause of JJ's death that would subsequently be established. Daybell had declined to have an autopsy performed the night Tammy passed away. Vallow was eventually arrested in Hawaii in February 2020, five months after the children vanished. They would not be discovered for four months.

Will Lori Vallow get the death penalty?

Lori Vallow faces 10 years to life in prison on each of the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, which she was found guilty of back in May. She could spend one to 20 years in jail if she is found guilty of grand theft. Vallow will not face the death penalty, which was withdrawn as an option by Judge Boyce in March. If Judge Boyce imposes a fixed sentence, Vallow won't be qualified for parole until that period has passed. She will therefore never be eligible for parole if she receives a fixed life sentence, as reported by Daily Mail.
