Leigh Wood savoured the continuation of his “Cinderella story” as he signed off from the featherweight division by retaining his world title with a dramatic stoppage of Josh Warrington. Wood revealed his battle with the scales had been as tough as the fight for the WBA crown in Sheffield, where Warrington’s bullish flurries put him up on the scorecards ahead of the second half of the bout. Nursing a cut and swelling by his right eye, Wood remained composed and flipped the script at the end of the seventh with a savage right hook and a burst of punches that left Warrington flat on his back. Referee Michael Alexander halted the contest despite Warrington’s howls of protestation as Wood celebrated his 28th win from 31 fights, adding another chapter to his late career resurgence. It was not too long ago Wood was fighting down the card on small hall shows, while a points defeat against Jazza Dickens in February 2020 left him short of options at the wrong side of 30. But a year later he was the British champion and, within 18 months of his loss to Dickens, Wood claimed a world title as he reaped the rewards of linking up with Ben Davison, Tyson Fury’s former trainer. The 35-year-old said: “It’s some turnaround, kind of a Cinderella story. My team has changed me as a fighter. I know I wouldn’t have won the world title without them. “I probably wouldn’t have won the British title without them. The time I had before that completely changed me as a fighter, changed my perception on boxing and how I view it and how I operate.” Wood is no stranger to adversity after following up his upset win over Can Xu to become world champion with a stunning final-round stoppage of Michael Conlan last year when behind on the judges’ scorecards. He was brutally stopped by Mauricio Lara in February but went straight back into the lion’s den for a rematch three months later and regained his world title, while his latest win brings plenty of options. We’ll do the City Ground, but the only other thing I can think of (after that) is a Las Vegas fight.” Warrington came into this showdown having lost his IBF title last December but, in a cauldron-like atmosphere, the Leeds fighter controlled proceedings before the momentum was switched in an instant. After his third defeat in 35 fights, Warrington, who insisted the stoppage was premature, intends to carry on and suggested he will also move up to super-featherweight and pursue a rematch against Wood. He said: “I’m devastated. I was cruising the fight, up on the scorecards and I switched off for a split second. Maybe I got up too quickly, but my senses were all with me, I heard the bell go. “I thought would have been at least given an opportunity to sit down (at the end of the round). I dominated most of those rounds. Lewis Hamilton apologised to George Russell and took full responsibility for their first lap crash at the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday night. The Mercedes pair collided at the first turn of the first lap of the race, with Hamilton’s rear-right tyre clipping the front of Russell’s car. Hamilton, 38, spun off into the gravel and was forced to retire from the grand prix, while the incident also ruined Russell’s race as he dropped back to dead last. But while both immediately blamed each other on the team radio, Hamilton later admitted he was at fault and post-race spoke to Russell. In a video posted on Mercedes’ Instagram page, Hamilton is seen approaching Russell in the paddock and saying: “Sorry about today, it wasn’t your fault.” The pair quickly embrace, with Hamilton adding: “Great job.” Hamilton also posted on X/Twitter: “I’ve watched the replay and it was 100% my fault and I take full responsibility. Apologies to my team and to George.” Russell, despite intense humid conditions in Lusail, recovered over the next 57 laps to finish a respectable fourth. Hamilton added in his TV pen interview: “I just feel really sorry for the team, we had a chance today to get some good points. “Heat of the moment, I didn’t understand what happened but I don’t think George had anywhere to go. I’m happy to take responsibility for it. “It’s massively gutting to have a result like this. It’s very rare that this happens, I hope George is able to get back into the points.” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was absent from this race – his second in a row – as he recovers from knee surgery. But the Austrian came on the intercom in a move to calm Russell, 25, down shortly after the incident. “George, let’s race now, and get the best out of it,” he said. Influencer Logan Paul is under fire after allegedly only offering the victims of his cryptocurrency project, CryptoZoo, 5-10 per cent of their losses. CryptoZoo was a cryptocurrency game that Paul described as a "really fun game that makes you money", where he asked fans to invest by purchasing cryptocurrency collectables. However, a year later, no game materialised, with Paul apparently abandoning the project. Despite this, the CryptoZoo website still says it is "undergoing upgrades" and that "big things are coming!" At the start of 2023, YouTube investigator known as 'Coffeezilla' uploaded a crypto video titled 'Investigating Logan Paul's Biggest Scam', racking up over 9 million views. The video featured those who had invested in the game, individually listing off the amount of money they had lost from it, anywhere between $15,000 to $500,000. Initially, Paul threatened legal action against Coffeezilla for defamation, but days later apologised and said he would take accountability, with part of this including repaying investors. Nine months later, however, and those who requested a refund are still waiting for their money to be returned. YouTuber 'Kavos' has an alleged update on the situation, saying "reliable sources" are claiming that Paul's "best offer was 5-10 per cent of the losses suffered". Kavos went on to call it "an absolute disgrace", and added that "before this 'offer' Logan and his team tried to get the case dismissed. There is absolutely no accountability or sympathy for his actions." Many were outraged at Paul's actions, with one user writing "there's no rock bottom for him". Whilst another asked "is anyone surprised?" Saying Paul has never "shown an ounce of integrity": However, some were hesitant to criticise due to the ambiguity of Kavos' "reliable sources": Indy100 has reached out to Logan Paul for comment.
