Tiffany Gomas responds to 'embarrassing' SNL sketch about her
Tiffany Gomas, one of the most notorious viral figures of the year, is back in the news thanks to the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. Tiffany, of course, shot to unlikely fame after being filmed uttering the now immortal words “that motherf***er is not real” and launching into a bizarre rant on a plane over the summer. She previously addressed what “actually” happened after she was removed from the flight, albeit without giving a completely satisfying answer, and now she’s been immortalised in the form of an SNL sketch. Over the weekend, the comedy show featured a sketch which jokingly referred to the kinds of people you might see at an airport over the holiday season. There is "couple on their last Thanksgiving trip together", "woman with service animals she clearly doesn't need" and "TSA agent shouting the same thing 12 different ways". However, Gomas was clearly the inspiration for “woman who’s about to go viral”. "I am telling you right now, that mother trucker is not real,” the character says after appearing on screen, repeating Gomas’s infamous lines. Gomas has now responded to the sketch, responding to the clip on Twitter/X by writing: “Well, this is embarrassing.” She also used laughing emojis in the post, so it looks like she’s at least able to joke about the incident now. It comes after Gomas previously addressed the incident while speaking to the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast four months on from her meltdown on an American Airlines jet, the marketing executive spoke about the aftermath of her outburst, as well as what prompted the whole thing. During their chat, the podcast’s host Dan Katz asked Gomas outright “what [she] saw” to prompt such an extreme reaction. She replied: “Yeah, the reason why I probably haven't come out yet… it's so cringe… “I did not see anything.” Elaborating, she said: “I got into a bit of an altercation. It spiralled out of control. It was not my best moment, I mean, it was actually a horrible moment – absolutely mortifying.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. Earth has just received a message from 10 million miles away
An experiment to see if a laser could beam a message through space to Earth has been successful and could alter the future of spacecraft communication. The experiment was made possible by the Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) tool which was travelling onboard NASA’s Psyche spacecraft. It was successfully able to beam a message to Earth, via a near-infrared laser, from far beyond the Moon. It is the furthest such optical communication to have ever been communicated and was encoded with test data to ensure that it worked correctly. The DSOC successfully beamed the data from approximately 16 million kilometers (10 million miles) away to the Hale Telescope at Caltech’s Palomar Observatory in California. Hitching a ride on the Psyche spacecraft, the experiment achieved the so-called “first light” on 14 November, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory which is managing the mission from Earth. NASA explained the demo’s “flight laser transceiver – a cutting-edge instrument aboard Psyche capable of sending and receiving near-infrared signals – locked onto a powerful uplink laser beacon transmitted from the Optical Communications Telescope Laboratory at JPL’s Table Mountain Facility near Wrightwood, California.” The uplink beacon assisted the transceiver in aiming its downlink to Caltech’s observatory, where the signal was received. Trudy Kortes, director of Technology Demonstrations at NASA HQ, said: “Achieving first light is one of many critical DSOC milestones in the coming months, paving the way toward higher-data-rate communications capable of sending scientific information, high-definition imagery, and streaming video in support of humanity’s next giant leap: sending humans to Mars.” It’s not the first time that optical communications have been used to beam messages from space, but these laser beams mark the furthest a message has ever been transmitted. With missions further than the moon, NASA typically uses radio waves to communicate. However, laser beams allow for a greater amount of data to be packed in them, potentially giving experts more options in future missions. Dr Jason Mitchell, director of the Advanced Communications and Navigation Technologies Division within NASA’s Space Communications and Navigation program, explained: “Optical communication is a boon for scientists and researchers who always want more from their space missions, and will enable human exploration of deep space.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. TikTok model left horrified after AI deepfake shows her getting dressed
A model was left horrified after discovering that someone had created a deepfake video of her getting undressed and posted it online. Model and TikToker Nadia Zalecka was mortified to find that she was one of a rising number of influencers being targeted for illicit content using artificial intelligence. Zalacka has more than 80,000 followers on TikTok, and was alerted to the compromising video by one of them. Speaking to the Daily Star, she explained that the person responsible had taken one of her videos before changing her face and name, before making her undress. @nadiazalecka “It’s so so scary. One of my TikTok followers came across it and tagged me. People need to realize how bad it actually is.” As well as saying that saying her likeness had been used before on dating sites, as well as having her likeness used on the “AI Undress” website. She added: “It was so scary seeing my video being manipulated so easily, it’s flooded with comments praising and supporting this fake person and little do they know it’s completely fake and my body is being used.” It’s another disturbing instance of deep fake technology being used for sinister subject matter. The surge in deepfakes has prompted many high profilers to come forward and speak out including MrBeast and Tom Hanks.
