NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'CBS Mornings' host Gayle King reflected on how "wokeism" is perceived these days by people and how its dismissal has caused serious problems at a larger level, including school education in America.

The show host shared her thoughts on the report of Florida taking steps towards a more conservative education that led to a course on African-American history being removed from the curriculum.

Florida's work towards restrictive non-'woke' education

This is not the first time that Florida has come out with such decisions greatly affecting education from elementary to high school levels.

Led by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, the state has been a leader in passing bills that have removed courses and therefore, discussions on topics like race and racial history along with other so-called "woke" subjects like gender and sexuality.

This has been a part of the initiative that developed into an act called the Stop Woke Act which resulted in the elimination of important AP courses, including one on African American history which taught Critical Race Theory to students.

The move by the GOP leader garnered much criticism but the largely conservative state has continued on the path of highly restricting the education of children and young adults through the school system.

After a report made by returnee journalist Lisa Ling, King shared her own thoughts about the effects of "wokeism."

Gayle King sees 'wokeism' as 'truthism'

On 'CBS Mornings', the morning show host spoke up about how wokeism has merely become a derogatory label but she saw it as a way to see the truth, per Fox News.

"It's so sad to me now that the word 'wokeism' has now almost become weaponized," King said, "It's really missing the point about what's being taught here. You know, I don't look at it as 'wokeism' so much as 'truthism'."

She also added, "And I think if people would take the time to really see what is happening in these classes and what’s being taught. Nowhere are we trying to say — anybody is trying to say, ‘hate White people, ignore’ — it drives me crazy when I hear that, Lisa."

Her co-host, Nate Burleson, commented, "Wokeism is just misleading the future generations from learning about our history."

As King agreed, she responded, "And it is OUR history."
