If you haven’t heard, Crocs are making a comeback – and this time they’re headed West. From the spongy flat originals to the wedged heels reminiscent of Y2K style, the 2002 footwear brand has introduced a myriad of designs based on its famed foam material and multi-hole adornments. But now, the company is branching out, launching a new addition to its collection: cowboy boots. On 5 October, Crocs announced the new boot offering, which was said to be motivated by the brand’s fanbase. “For years, the buzz around a Crocs-inspired cowboy boot has been building, creating a genuine fan-fueled movement trending across social media,” the statement read. “Recognising this passion, Crocs is making fan dreams come true, turning the Crocs Classic Cowboy Boot into a reality.” The boots may be bendable, but with two spurs, a faux leather shaft, intricate stitching, and a scaly vamp, the only tell-tale sign these are Crocs is the trademark foam handle wrapped around the counter. Available starting 23 October for a limited time only, the new Class Cowboy Boot is priced at $120. The shoes will be sold online and in stores. On social media, people don’t know what to make of the new footwear, with some praising the design while others have been more critical. “Why...why do I not hate these?” one person asked, while another said: “Crocs came out with cowboy boots! Someone take my money!” Others were more skeptical, with someone else writing: “Crocs released cowboy boots. That’s enough internet for today.” Another person described the new shoes as “foul”. Crocs’ new release comes in conjunction with the brand’s known “Croctober” celebration, where the company offers a special style every year during October. Usually, the exclusive design is said to be inspired by their dedicated following. Among the company’s notable releases are a slew of collaborations with name brands and celebrities. The Palace x Crocs offering ditched the known structure and handle associated with the foam footwear for a slide with prints representative of the Skateboard brand. Unfortunately, the collaboration has since been sold out. Recently, Levi’s and Crocs partnered to reimagine the All-Terrain Clogs with a jean top and abstract design. And if you thought using garment material in the comfortable shoes was unimaginable, the company’s pairing with food chains will surprise you. With swatches of orange, green, and red slashed on the soles, platform options, and Slurpee-shaped jibbitz, the 7-Eleven x Crocs ushers in a whole new intersection between the convenience industry and footwear. Susan Hall has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for the London mayoral election. The Tory Hall, beat Mozammel Hossain, a barrister with virtually no frontline political experience, in a ballot of Tory members, winning 57 per cent of the vote. Hall has been a London Assembly member for five years. Her policies include reversing the ULEZ expansion, dealing with the housing crisis and cracking down on crime. Indeed, she said she will "hunt down and lock up" muggers and burglars by creating a special team within the Met tasked with tackling them. She is also known for trolling Gemma Collins, when she appeared on I'm A Celebrity in 2014. “OMG this fat woman Gemma is ghastly, really ghastly,” Hall tweeted, “however watching her squeal may be funny”. She also called Collins a “stupid fat blonde woman”. She supported all the best people, not, like Donald Trump and Liz Truss and once claimed the Black community had a crime problem. The graphic showed a photo of her against a blue background. Dramatic text alongside it merely read: "Susan." It added: "The one Sadiq Khan fears," as well as "you are safer with Susan". Rather than run to cast their votes for "Susan", people found it hilarious: Upon winning today, she updated her graphic hastily and it was still utterly ridiculous: Responding to her selection, a spokesperson for Sadiq Khan, seeking a third term in office next May, responded: The Conservative candidate for Mayor is a hard-right politician who couldn’t be more out of touch with our city and its values." Being ridiculed while trying to reach high office - it is just part and parcel of British politics. Nevertheless, indy100 has contacted Hall to see how she felt about it when her campaign was originally ridiculed on Twitter. A spokesperson said: “Conservative members across London are supporting Susan because she is the experienced candidate who can beat Sadiq Khan. Lando Norris denied Max Verstappen a practice double by setting the pace for Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix – after Daniel Ricciardo crashed out and was taken to hospital. More than 300,000 spectators will descend on the coastal town of Zandvoort, 30 miles outside of Amsterdam, as Formula One emerges from its summer slumber. The majority of whom will do so in the expectation of watching Verstappen march to his ninth consecutive victory – equalling a record set by Sebastian Vettel for Red Bull in 2013 – as he closes in on a hat-trick of world championships. But McLaren’s Norris raised the suggestion he could spoil Verstappen’s homecoming party after he ended the day with the fastest time. While practice speed is treated with caution, the British driver edged out Verstappen, who was fastest in the first running, by just 0.023 seconds. The impressive Alex Albon finished third for Williams, one place ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion finished three tenths adrift in his Mercedes with team-mate George Russell only 14th in the order. The second session was suspended after just 10 minutes when Norris’ team-mate Oscar Piastri and AlphaTauri’s Ricciardo crashed out at the same corner. Australian Piastri, who has enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, lost control of his McLaren through the banked left-handed Turn 3 before slamming into the barriers. Moments later, Ricciardo, who appeared distracted by the sight of Piastri’s wounded McLaren, locked up under braking before following his compatriot into the tyre wall. “Ah f***, my hand, f***,” the 34-year-old said over the radio after the incident. Both men played no further part in the running as their damaged cars were towed back to their respective garages. Ricciardo was still holding the steering wheel as he hit the wall, and he was taken to the medical centre. He was then pictured leaving with his left arm in a sling, and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for further checks on his wrist, raising some doubt over his participation for the remainder of the weekend. Ferrari have endured a lacklustre campaign and there was little for the Italian giants to cheer on Friday, with Charles Leclerc 11th and team-mate Carlos Sainz 16th. Amid the maelstrom swirling on the other side of the Ferrari garage in the last few days at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc has been razor-sharp. Fastest in the sole practice session on Friday, the Monegasque is so often ice-cool on the tight, twisty street circuits that so regularly crop up now in Formula 1. Such was his confidence – and previous qualifying form in similar conditions – Leclerc was actually favourite with the bookies for pole position ahead of Max Verstappen. The Ferrari man proved them right, sealing a Ferrari one-two with Carlos Sainz qualifying in second. Unfortunately however, the Spaniard will not be starting alongside his team-mate for the inaugural Saturday night race. Sainz’s ridiculous 10-place grid penalty for exceeding his gearbox allocation – which only came about due to the FIA’s incompetence after manhole-gate on opening night – has wiped out Leclerc’s most helpful aid to win the 50-lap race. For those desperate for an engrossing battle at the front, not least F1 and LVGP chiefs, it is a bitter blow. Leclerc will have to break an unwelcome streak, too. Since his last win 16 months ago in Austria, the 26-year-old has been on pole position eight times. Rather excruciatingly, six of those eight have still resulted in podiums. Ferrari’s race-pace has been their Achilles’ heel but Leclerc is optimistic after Sainz was victorious on a similar track layout in Singapore in September. “The race is where we lack performance so I hope we can put it all together,” he said post-qualifying. “We know that Red Bull are going to be very strong, but we’ve had positive signs on the high fuel [in practice] – hopefully we can convert that pole position to a win. “I think we are closer [to Max] than other races. If there’s one race to win [this year] other than Singapore, it’s this one.” Leclerc will need two things that have deserted him in order to taste victory in Nevada tomorrow: a peerless strategy and just a bit of luck. From lights out, Leclerc must get off to an exemplary start, while hoping Verstappen – who compared the track to the National League after qualifying – on the dirtier side of the track falls back into the pack. Early on, staying outside the DRS window of Verstappen behind ahead of the Vegas strip section – now the second-longest straight on the calendar – is imperative. But Ferrari must be bold with their tactical calls from lights out. The Scuderia have hampered themselves since producing a title-winning car at the start of 2022 with daft decisions from the pit lane. In a battle between Ferrari strategists and their rivals at Red Bull, there has been no contest. It is unlikely, given Red Bull’s outstanding race pace and straight-line speed. But Verstappen’s day to forget in Singapore two months ago should give Leclerc and the rest of the pack hope, even if it is simply a glimpse of an opportunity. Lewis Hamilton Earlier in the day, Formula 1 and Vegas GP management did their no reputation no good with a lengthy statement explaining Thursday night’s titanic mess, which saw ticket holders witness just eight minutes of cars on track. Perplexingly, in amongst 600 words, there was no apology and no refund offered; instead, a $200 voucher to use at the Las Vegas Grand Prix gift shop. After a jumbled-up order in the final practice session, there was a sense of mystique surrounding who was the quickest team around this 3.8-mile street circuit. A circuit which, despite this week’s shenanigans, looks absolutely stunning from the sky. Think Singapore and Jeddah on steroids. On the track, Lando Norris admitted this week he “did not mind” where his first win comes – but it won’t be this weekend. Both McLarens, surprisingly short of pace, were knocked out in Q1 – Norris will start tomorrow’s race in 15th, Oscar Piastri in 18th. A recovery drive will be in order on Saturday night. It was also another day to forget for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion failed to qualify for the final session and will start the Vegas race in 10th. Resigned to his fate afterwards, he simply stated to race engineer Peter Bonnington: “Couldn’t go faster mate.” But his team-mate George Russell could – the Brit will start behind the top-two in third tomorrow and will be looking to steal a march on Verstappen heading into turn one. Yet the standout team in Vegas qualifying was Williams, with Alex Albon starting fifth and rookie driver Logan Sargeant producing his best qualifying performance of the season for sixth. And with it, the American could well have sealed his 2024 seat.
