The last parts of the old Twitter branding are seemingly being removed from Elon Musk’s “X” site. In recent weeks, Mr Musk has announced that he would be rebranding the company he bought last year as “X”, as part of a plan to turn the product into an “everything app”. Mr Musk has had an interest in the letter for much of his career, and has used it across his other companies. That rebrand appeared to have been launched rapidly and initially faltered. When Mr Musk attempted to install an “X” on top of the company’s San Francisco offices, for instance, local authorities objected and it was later removed. Mr Musk now appears to be making progress with that plan, however, removing the Twitter branding from many of the central parts of the website. The logo that appears in the corner of the site had already been swapped from the Twitter bird into the “X” glyph that Mr Musk chose in an online contest, for instance. And in recent days, the company has swapped the “tweet” button that a user presses to make a new post for the more traditional “post” option. Now, Twitter appears to changing the URL of posts from Twitter.com into X.com. For now, that appears to be only happening in limited instances – sharing a post from the Twitter app for iOS generates the new addresses, but doing so on the web still shows the old one – but it is likely that the company will switch to the new branding across sites eventually. Users can also open up any profile by typing it as “X.com” rather than the old branding, though it does for now redirect to the Twitter version of that profile. Still, much of Twitter’s documentation has not been changed at all. The “help” sites on Twitter’s pages still include entirely Twitter branding: the “How to Tweet” article, for instance, has been changed to include some references to “X” but uses the word “tweet”, and “Twitter” liberally. Saturn’s rings might disappear pretty soon astronomically speaking, according to new research. A new analysis of data captured by NASA’s Cassini mission, which orbited the planet between 2004 and 2017, has revealed new insights into when the seven rings were formed and how long they might last. During Cassini’s Grand Finale, when the spacecraft completed 22 orbits in which it passed between Saturn and its rings, the researchers observed that the rings were losing many tons of mass per second, which means the rings will only be around another few hundred million years at most. “We have shown that massive rings like Saturn’s do not last long,” said Paul Estrada, research scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, and a coauthor of the studies, in a statement. “One can speculate that the relatively puny rings around the other ice and gas giants in our solar system are leftover remnants of rings that were once massive like Saturn’s. The research also found that the rings appeared long after Saturn’s initial formation, and were still forming when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. “Our inescapable conclusion is that Saturn’s rings must be relatively young by astronomical standards, just a few hundred million years old,” said Richard Durisen, professor emeritus of astronomy at Indiana University Bloomington and lead author of the studies in a statement. “If you look at Saturn’s satellite system, there are other hints that something dramatic happened there in the last few hundred million years. Graham donned a black gown with a shimmering gold corset and a sweeping shawl, as part of the 10 look show. This isn’t the first time Reed has worked with Graham, 35, having dressed her in a sculptural pale pink and black gown for the 2023 Met Gala. Reed’s catwalks are typically dramatic – previous shows have had performances from actor Florence Pugh and singer Sam Smith – and this season was no different. Entitled ‘Duet’, the collection was inspired by Old Hollywood styles, mixing together masculinity and feminity. Designs on the catwalk used deadstock black velvet and white duchess satin with pops of gold, and played around with exaggerated proportions. One of the standout looks of the show was a black and white evening gown with statement shoulders and a revealing low cut-out at the back – which could have been inspired by the low-slung ‘bumster’ trousers popularised by Alexander McQueen in the Nineties. I think it’s getting rapidly more aggressive and more unsafe to be queer and queer presenting in the city,” the Evening Standard reported him as saying. “Casting trans and non-binary individuals in my show potentially runs the risk of turning off some of my Middle Eastern and Asian clients. “As a designer, I walk a very fine balance of not offending too many people to equal sales and build my brand, but I still need to stand behind my messaging.” Reed’s designs are often concerned with gender fluidity and theatricality, both at his eponymous label and in his role as creative director of French fashion house Nina Ricci.
