Police investigate after brick attack on Aston Villa bus after win at Burnley
The Aston Villa team bus was damaged after being attacked on the motorway following the side’s victory at Burnley on Sunday, police have confirmed. A brick was thrown at the windscreen from a footbridge on the M65 in Lancashire as the Villa team began their journey home from Turf Moor. Nobody was hurt but the matter is being investigated by Lancashire Police and Burnley have said they are “saddened and dismayed” by the incident. Superintendent Melita Worswick, of Lancashire Police, said: “This incident occurred when a great deal of traffic was leaving the area following the football match between Burnley and Aston Villa. “It is nothing but good fortune that the brick didn’t cause more damage, or result in somebody being seriously injured or even killed. “We cannot say at this point whether this was a targeted attack but enquiries are ongoing and this will form part of our investigation. “We are now determined to find the person or people responsible and are asking for anyone with information to get in touch.” The incident is a further embarrassment for Burnley after Manchester City’s Rico Lewis was struck by an object thrown from the crowd in the season-opening match at Turf Moor earlier this month. Play was also halted briefly during that game due to a pitch invader. A statement from the club read: “Burnley Football Club are saddened and dismayed to learn about an attack on the Aston Villa team bus at junction 10 of the M65 after today’s match. “Having spoken with Villa we are relieved to hear nobody was hurt in the incident. We strongly condemn this behaviour and will support Lancashire Police in their efforts to find whoever was responsible.” Promoted Burnley were beaten 3-1 by Villa in what was their second Premier League match of the campaign. They are yet to collect a point.

Tampons Are Expensive. These Brands Want To Pay You Back For Them
When you think of luxury items, your mind might go to high-end cars, diamond rings, aged whiskey, and designer handbags — not tampons. But menstrual products are taxed as luxury goods in many states in the U.S., and that doesn’t sit right with us. And it doesn’t sit right with some of the brands selling you them, either.

West Ham fan breaks since after single-handedly holding off Dutch hooligans
The West Ham fan who went viral after single-handedly holding off Dutch hooligans has broken his silence, saying that he is “no hero”. Chris Knolls, known as ‘Knolls’, was filmed defending an area of the stand from a large group of AZ Alkmaar “ultras” at the AFAS stadium after West Ham beat Dutch team AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League semi-final 1-0. According to reports, the area of the stand they were trying to attack contained the family and friends of West Ham players and staff. Knolls was widely praised online for his actions, and he’s now spoken about the events that transpired inside the stadium. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The 58-year-old said he was “genuinely concerned” about the safety of people around him, adding that he thought the hooligans were “intent on causing trouble and I did not want them to get to those behind us”. He told The Mirror: “I saw them all congregate on the side of the pitch and then they broke down the barriers and headed to the first group of West Ham fans." “I know what they were intent on doing and was not going to let it happen," he added. Knolls told the publication that he “just decided I wasn’t going to let them come up”. He went on to say: “I just thought the best form of defence would be to get to the top of the stairs where they were coming up and just stood there and tried to stop them. I know they were swinging punches and I just did my best to stand there and take it.” Knolls went on to say that he doesn’t like “bullies”, also saying that his wife Karen was “not surprised” he had defended the people behind him. Esports 'scandal' as FIFAe World Cup ends in penalty controversy
Esports 'scandal' as FIFAe World Cup ends in penalty controversy
We've all seen controversial penalty shootouts – but never quite like this. The FIFA esports World Cup has ended in scandal this week after a penalty shootout which was branded a “disgrace” by the losing side. K esports organisation Futwiz lost the tournament’s grand final after their player’s controller overlay was shown on the main screen during the shootout, meaning everybody could see which way he was aiming. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Futwiz’s Australian player, Mark11, raised his arm several times to let officials know about the situation. However, the issue wasn’t resolved and he lost 5-4 overall, with admins deciding not to retake the penalties. Mark11 received the $150,000 second-place prize and his opponent, Team Gullit’s Dutch player Bachoore, left with the $300,000 top prize. Dan Bellis, the CEO of Futwiz, told Esports News UK: “The players are instructed to raise their hand if there’s an issue and it will be dealt with – but to keep on playing until then (stopping the game results in a disqualification). “In the 2v2 Club World Cup Semi-Final one of our players’ console was freezing after kick off – he raised his hand and the game was nullified and restarted. The protocol is communicated to the players and they’ve bottled it in the biggest occasion. “Just to clarify – this is nothing to do with EA, the world finals (for the last time as the partnership is ending) are handed over to FIFAe and the agency they use – ‘The eSports Company’.” A spokesperson for FIFA said: “All players have been informed at the start of the FIFAe World Cup 2023 that if they actively decide themselves to show the input overlay, it might be displayed on broadcast and in the arena. “Throughout the entire competition, the feed of the home console was visible on the stream and within the arena. This also included games with the input overlay. “The same situation occurred during the semi-finals including a penalty shootout and no further concerns have been raised by the players prior to the start of the final. After thorough review of the footage, we can also confirm that no player received a competitive advantage as the opposite team only watched their own screen.” But fellow esports players did not agree. British FIFA pro player Tom Leese described it as “the lowest day in FIFA esports history”. Pro FIFA player for Burnley, Jack Sharp added: “You’ve got a guy who’s communicating to the refs multiple times that something isn’t right and he’s being ignored? Scandalous.” Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.
