Anthony Joshua could fight on same card as Eubank Jr vs Benn, claims Eddie Hearn
Eddie Hearn has suggested that Anthony Joshua could box on the same card as a potential clash between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, with the promoter talking up the possibility of a December date. Briton Joshua has been in talks over a heavyweight fight with Deontay Wilder, though that bout now appears unlikely to take place in December – as was originally discussed – and “AJ” may instead box a different opponent at the end of this year. According to his promoter Hearn, Joshua could fight in Abu Dhabi on 23 December, possibly on the same card as a long-awaited bout between compatriots Eubank Jr and Benn – who is also promoted by Hearn. 23 December is one of the rumoured dates for Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight title fight that was announced last week. Benn vs Eubank Jr was originally set for October 2022, but the bout collapsed just days before fight night, upon the revelation that Benn had failed two drug tests in the run-up to the contest. Benn, 26, was subsequently stripped of his licence by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) and charged by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad), though the World Boxing Council cleared the unbeaten welterweight of any intentional wrongdoing. Later, the National Anti-Doping Panel lifted a provisional suspension on Benn, though the BBBofC and Ukad have appealed that move. As such, the Briton is still unable to fight in the UK, though he returned to the ring with a win over Rodolfo Orozco in Florida last month. It is likely due to his inability to box in the UK that Hearn’s proposed super-card featuring Eubank Jr and Joshua would take place in Abu Dhabi. Joshua, 33, last boxed in August, knocking out Robert Helenius after initial opponent Dillian Whyte failed a drug test. After Joshua’s win, it was revealed that Helenius had also failed a pre-fight drug test. Meanwhile, Eubank Jr most recently fought in September. The 34-year-old stopped Liam Smith to avenge a TKO loss to the Liverpudlian. Click here to subscribe to The Independent’s Sport YouTube channel for all the latest sports videos. Dillon Danis denies claims he backed out of Logan Paul fight - live updates
There's much speculation about the future of Dillon Danis’s fight with Logan Paul, as the biggest feud in YouTube boxing took yet another twist. The pair are due to go toe-to-toe in the ring on October 14 – but not for the first time, fans have been wondering whether or not it’ll take place at all after Danis's latest post. There’s been a problematic build up to the bout, with Danis having been criticised for his treatment towards model Nina Agdal, who is Paul’s partner. After he posted old footage from her Snapchat account and shared posts of her with previous partners, the model filed a lawsuit against the fighter, saying she suffered "humiliation, emotional distress, and reputational harm" from the fighter's posts. In documents obtained by TMZ Sports, she went on to suggest that an uncensored photo from a "romantic encounter" over a decade ago has even broken laws. Now, Danis has been posting messages about possibilities of the fight not taking place at all, which have put fans on high alert. Here’s everything you need to know. Danis denies claims made by Mike Parry and states fight is still on MMA star Mike Perry confused fans further by posting on his Instagram stories and claiming that he was set to take over as Paul’s opponent next weekend. “It’s official guys… I’m in,” he said. Perry, 30, will be familiar to UFC fans. He now fights in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship after fighting 15 times in UFC. However, Danis appears to deny the claims by posting a message stating his fight with Paul was still on. “See you October 14th pu*** boy,” he wrote to Paul. Danis tweets that he’s “out” of fight twitter.com The fight is still on, but fans were surprised to see a message from Danis that suggested he was backing out of the fight. Posting on Twitter/X, the 30-year-old appeared to imply that the match would not take place. “Logan bragging about lawsuits again he isn’t built for the fight game, this p**** doesn’t deserve me I’m out,” he wrote. Joey Barton backs Kevin Keegan’s view on female players talking about men’s football
Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton has tweeted his apparent support for Kevin Keegan’s assessment that he doesn’t enjoy female footballers talking about men’s football. The former Newcastle, Fulham and England national team boss was talking to an audience in a Bristol event recently and made the comments saying he doesn’t like to “listen to ladies talking about the England men’s team at the match because I don’t think it’s the same experience. I have a problem with that.” Keegan’s comments drew ire from support groups and female fans, but Barton took to X/Twitter to issue a terse few lines of support, seemingly in agreement with Keegan’s sentiment that former Lionesses and their peers shouldn’t be joining in the assessment of men’s action. “Kevin Keegan. Ballon D’or winner 1978. England manager. He’s bang on,” Barton wrote on social media. Keegan had insisted he was a fan of women’s football in general and backed the presenters themselves as being of the highest calibre - Gabby Logan was singled out by Keegan at the time as a top example. “The presenters we have now, some of the girls are so good, they are better than the guys. It’s a great time for the ladies,” he added. “But if I see an England lady footballer saying about England against Scotland at Wembley and she’s saying, ‘If I would have been in that position I would have done this,’ I don’t think it’s quite the same. I don’t think it crosses over that much.” Keegan added he saw it as “a great time for the ladies’ game” in general and that the standard of play when he visited the Lionesses while England manager was higher than he had expected it to be. Barton has his own long history of making headlines, from altercations on the pitch and in dressing rooms as a player to more recent episodes as a manager. Last year he told the FA to “stop rewarding failure” and sack Gareth Southgate from the England national team job, while across 2021 and 2022 he was cleared of assault against both another football league manager and against his wife, the latter after a judge ruled he could not have a fair trial because prosecutors would not call the alleged victim to give evidence. Several years ago Barton, then Fleetwood boss, made a comment saying women’s football was essentially a “different sport” and should be tailored accordingly with smaller balls and goals, to avoid it remaining “an inferior product”. More recently, he was reported this season to have called one of his own players at Bristol Rovers an “idiotic young boy” for contributing to conceding a goal while injured, insisting his team needed to remove such “weak, feeble-minded individuals” to achieve promotion.
