Janelle Monae says that they're 'much happier' when they're topless
Janelle Monáe has said that they’re “much happier” being topless after posing for a new cover shoot. The singer and actor posed for Rolling Stone’s Pride issue after appearing to explore a more sexually liberal style in 2023 with a series of album promos. Monáe, who uses they/them pronouns, announced their new album, The Age of Pleasure, with a teaser clip of the NSFW video which sees them emerging from a pool wearing a translucent skin-tight t-shirt with the word “Pleasure” written across the front. The performer's bare breasts could be seen through the wet t-shirt and Monáe says it’s all part of being a “free-ass mother****er”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “I’m much happier when my titties are out, and I can run around free,” Monáe told Rolling Stone. The singer also posted the new album artwork for The Age of Pleasure which sees her swimming topless underwater. Monáe described the album as their “most sensual and indulgent album yet”, saying: “Most people don’t understand what’s going on in my brain. Community has been so helpful to me; it’s beautiful that I have a title called The Age of Pleasure because it actually re-centers me. “It’s not about an album anymore. I’ve changed my whole f–king lifestyle.” The singer added: “I want things to feel so true to my life … I used to consider myself a futurist. I know what that means, to obsess about the next thing. A present tourist is what I’m calling myself right now. I’m actively focusing on being present. “This album is not about a fight,” they shared. “It’s about living in an oasis created by us for us. Even with everything going on in the world, this is our moment to breathe together, unapologetically taking this beat to enjoy — to hurry up and live.” Have your say in our news democracy. Beyonce bought 110 burgers in in huge Nando's spending spree in Scotland
It turns out Beyoncé is a big fan of Nando's. So much so, she splashed out almost £2,000 ($2,480) on a single order. The superstar treated her entourage before taking to the stage at Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland with a wide range of options including 50 sunset burgers, 30 fino pittas, 30 butterfly burgers, 60 chicken pittas, 20 beanie burgers and 10 chicken wings. She also ensured there were vegetarian options. While celebrities tend to go incognito when placing orders, Beyoncé used her real name. The news soon spread to Twitter, with one writing: "Beyoncé ordering £1.8k of chicken from Fountain Park Nando's is killing me." Another joked: "Beyoncé having a cheeky 2 grands worth of Nando's." Meanwhile, a third added: "Beyoncé and I. having the same Nando's order is the boost of confidence I needed today." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Beyoncé's Edinburgh show went down a treat with fans after she thanked the audience for their energy. "I hope tonight you guys are feeling joy and love! I hope y’all feel safe tonight! I hope y’all feel free and liberated," she said. "Thank y’all so much for being such an incredible audience in this rain! I love y’all!" It comes after TikTokers were convinced the 41-year-old "threw shade" at Sweden. "How could you witness the QUEEN in person and not at minimum do a lil 2 step in your seat," one person hit back at footage that showed many concertgoers sitting down. Another added: "Sweden failed her so bad! Some of us were TRYING!" Meanwhile, many others were quick to highlight that it was simply a case of "cultural differences in concert etiquette." Tyson Fury in talks with unbeaten heavyweight Demsey McKean over fight in Australia
Tyson Fury in talks with unbeaten heavyweight Demsey McKean over fight in Australia
Tyson Fury is in talks with unbeaten heavyweight Demsey McKean over a fight Down Under, according to the Australian’s manager. WBC champion Fury was expected to fight Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the unified titles, in a seismic bout in April, but negotiations collapsed in March. As a result, Usyk is expected to defend his belts against mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois this summer, while Fury’s next move is unclear. The unbeaten Briton, 34, is in Melbourne this week to support teammate Joseph Parker, who is fighting Faiga Opelu on Wednesday (24 May), and Fury may follow in the New Zealander’s footsteps later this year. That’s according to Angelo Di Carlo, manager of McKean, who told Australian media on Monday (22 May): “Chats began some time ago for Demsey to fight Tyson Fury in Australia, and I think Demsey is the best option for the ‘Gypsy King’. “We’re certainly keen to do the fight. We’ve had a good association with Matchroom [McKean’s promoters], and we have great respect for [Matchroom chief] Eddie Hearn, but I’ll have more talks with Fury’s camp and see where that takes us. “If Tyson Fury wants to fight in Australia, the logical option is to fight an Aussie fighter, and talking to Fury’s people, they don’t want to fight a small heavyweight. Demsey and Justis [Huni] are Australia’s best heavyweights, but Demsey is 6ft 6in and – being a southpaw – he would present a real test for Tyson. “We’ve been given a possible date to fight Fury in August, so hopefully we can make it happen [...] Demsey has said, ‘Let’s make this fight happen.’ For Demsey to get the chance to jump in the ring with Tyson Fury, it would be the biggest fight in Australian history [...] This would be a dream come true, all the greatest heavyweights are chasing Fury; Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Andy Ruiz, Deontay Wilder – they all would love a piece of Fury. “Demsey is unbeaten and he is awkward enough to give any heavyweight problems. Being a southpaw makes him tricky to fight, and he has the youth and hunger to be competitive against Fury. Tyson cannot underestimate Demsey, because he has the size and power to pull off an upset.” McKean, 32, has a professional record of 22-0 (14 knockouts) and was linked with Anthony Joshua earlier this year. The Briton, however, went on to fight Jermaine Franklin instead. Joshua outpointed the American in London in April.
