Did a Travis Scott fan sell his house for a concert ticket?
A Travis Scott superfan fooled the internet by convincing people he'd sold his house to attend the rapper's concert in Egypt. It all started when TikTok user @thatlookslikecj shared a clip standing next to a house and a 'sold' sign. "I actually did it," he wrote alongside the footage that racked up 5.1 million views. The comments were flooded with fellow fans, with one writing, "I lowkey might have to sell my kidney for this." Another added, "excellent economic decisions," while a third chimed in: "This deserves more fame." "If you’re that desperate to sell your own home for Travis Scott you deserve whatever comes to you," one person chimed in. Despite social media believing the move, it turned out the story was completely made up and the TikToker is known for his editing. The rapper was set to perform in Cairo on Friday (28 July), but the event was cancelled two days before. Live Nation, the promoters for the gig, said in a statement: "We regret to inform you that the UTOPIA show, originally scheduled for July 28th at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt is cancelled. "Unfortunately, despite highest efforts, complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert. We understand that this news is disappointing and not the outcome any of us desired." They reassured fans that they would be refunded for their tickets and apologised for the "inconvenience." They continued: "We remain committed to bringing exceptional live performances to fans and hope to have the opportunity to do so in the future." Have your say in our news democracy. Taylor Swift fans caused an earthquake at her Seattle concert
Taylor Swift has already broken a number of records this year with her Eras Tour - and now her shows in Seattle caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. For two nights (22 and 23 July), the 33-year-old pop star performed to a record-breaking 144,000 fans at Lumen Field, in the Emerald City in what has now been described as the "Swift Quake." This has been compared to the “Beast Quake," back in 2011 when Seattle Seahawks fans reacted to Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch's touchdown. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, who is a geology professor at Western Washington University noticed someone comparing the two events on a Facebook group and decided to investigate further. “I grabbed the data from both nights of the concert and quickly noticed they were clearly the same pattern of signals,” Caplan-Auerbach told CNN. “If I overlay them on top of each other, they’re nearly identical.” Seismographs are instruments used to record the motion of the ground, When looking at the difference in magnitude, the "Beast Quake" was 2.0, while the "Swift Quake" was just higher at 2.3. An earthquake of this scale is minor, it can shake the ground enough for people to notice but damage is normally limited to objects falling off shelves, according to New Scientist. Though Caplan-Auerbach noted a sizable difference between the "Beast Quake" and "Swift Quake" in terms of shaking. "The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake’. It absolutely doubled it," the seismologist told the same publication. But in a tweet, Caplan-Auerbach considered other factors that come into play such as the music, speakers and sound system contributing to the seismic activity, not just the fans. While a reaction to a touchdown lasts for seconds, the seismologist detailed how for Swift's concerts she "collected about 10 hours of data where rhythm controlled the behavior." Swift clearly enjoyed the atmosphere at the weekend as she took to Instagram and wrote: "Seattle that was genuinely one of my favorite weekends ever. Thank you for everything. All the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs." Have your say in our news democracy. Post Malone 'death sentence hoax' rattles fans of rapper
Post Malone fans are baffled over a fake death sentence rumour circulating online. To reiterate, the rapper is not under arrest and eating his last meal. The awkward misunderstanding stemmed from a YouTube clip from July, titled: 'Post Malone Eats His Last Meal'. The video, alongside the host Josh Scherer, shows the 'White Iverson' rapper chowing down on his favourite foods including mozzarella sticks, garlic knots, and marinara sauce. He then continues his feast with Raiding Cane's chicken tenders stuffed crust pizza, chicken parm and filet mignon steak with teriyaki sauce. For dessert, Post Malone opted for frosted flake cereal and chocolate chip cookies. The innocent video soon sent Twitter users spiralling, with one confused fan asking: "What’s this news about Post Malone and him eating his last meal??" Another wrote: "I need to stay off this app cause not y’all telling me Post Malone got the death penalty for murder and I believed it." Post Malone Eats His Last Meal www.youtube.com It comes after the rapper dropped his brand new album, Austin, on Friday (28 July). The 28-year-old took to Instagram ahead of the album release, saying: "It’s been some of the funnest music, some of the most challenging and rewarding music for me, at least — trying to really push myself and really do some cool stuff. He continued: "I played guitar on every song on the record, and it was a really, really fun experience, and I’m super, super excited to share it with you." Austin is available to stream now. Big Brother contestant who was kidnapped and sold on dark web recalls how she escaped
A British model has recounted her relief at escaping a kidnapping, after she was held prisoner in Italy and put up for sale on the dark web. Chloe Ayling, 25, who was on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018, suffered the traumatic experience the previous year, when she was abducted and drugged by two men in Milan. Ayling was 20 at the time, and had travelled there for a modelling job. Instead, she was taken hostage and held at a £265,000 ransom in a farmhouse near Turin. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Speaking on ITV, she recalled: “I walked into the studio and there was just silence. “Normally someone would greet you at the door but I just didn't hear anything. “Before I had time to process my thoughts, that's exactly when the masked man put his arm around my neck and mouth... and another one came to the front of me and injected me in my wrists.” When she woke up, Ayling was in the boot of a car with “tape on my mouth and handcuffs on my feet and my hands”. The model also saw an empty suitcase in the boot of the car with her, which she assumed her kidnappers planned to put her in. She was held in the farmhouse near Milan for six days as she tried to convince the men to let her go. Ayling was released on 17 July at the British consulate in Milan, after telling the kidnappers about her child at home. Polish national, Lukasz Herba, and his brother, Michal Herba, were subsequently jailed after an Italian court convicted them of kidnapping Ayling. Ayling’s story will be covered in a six-part BBC series called Kidnapped. Georgia Lester, who worked on Killing Eve, will cover her time in captivity, and the subsequent court case. Lester said: “Every moment that I have spent researching this series and spending time with Chloe, learning about the ordeal she suffered both by the men who abducted her and the people who doubted her, has been shocking and infuriating. “It’s been an honour to work with Chloe and I can’t wait for audiences to finally see her courage, her charm and her unwavering resilience.” The BBC Three series will begin filming later this year. Andrew Tate has launched his own comic which costs a staggering amount of money
Andrew Tate has announced a new business venture... in comic books – something that certainly wasn't on our 2023 bingo cards. The former kickboxer took to Twitter to share the news of his Top G comic, which reportedly follows the storyline of him and his brother Tristan taking on the Matrix. Classic. Attention soon turned to the cost of the so-called "collectable" item at a staggering $97 (£75). "They don’t want you to know the truth – they want you living in a mental cage, chained by a weak mindset," the official DNG Comics website reads. "I became the superhero of the youth by telling the truth and teaching young men to be strong. And now I am being punished for it, in real time. These stories reflect the harsh truths of the Matrix, how I escaped it, and what I predict they will try next." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The news soon racked up some opinions online... "The crazy thing is People will buy it," one person tweeted, while another added: "Well, he is great at comedy." Meanwhile, a third wrote: "Holy moly, In general I don’t care enough to comment what people spend their money on… but MAN." It comes after his two-and-a-half-hour-long sit down with Tucker Carlson was rumoured to be the "most watched interview of all time." The dedicated Tate fan account shared a screenshot of a Wikipedia page titled 'List of most watched television interviews'. However, Sportskeeda revealed the screenshot to be either edited or photoshopped as the current page lists a 1993 Oprah Winfrey interview with Michael Jackson as the most-watched television interview with an average viewership of 62.3 million. Not to mention, the interview was not aired on television, and instead, on Twitter for Carlson's independent talk show named Tucker on Twitter. Have your say in our news democracy. Megan Fox shuts down "weirdos" after asking fans to donate to friend's GoFundMe
Megan Fox has responded to "weirdos" criticising her for sharing a GoFundMe page for her friend and asking her followers to help if they can. On Monday (July 24), the Jennifer's Body actor took to her Instagram Stories to share a screenshot and a link to the GoFundMe page set up by her friend Brittney Boyce. The fundraising goal is $30,000, to raise money for Boyce's father who was recently pancreatic cancer diagnosis and requires treatment. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Boyce described how the goal for the fundraiser is to help her father who is not “covered by insurance” with medical expenses so "he can focus on himself and not the stress on finances.” "My friend’s dad was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. If you guys are able to help, please do," Fox wrote in the post. Though the post didn't go down well with some people who berated Fox for asking her followers to donate when the 37-year-old's net worth is reportedly $8 million. One person said: "Pay the bill from your friend and don't ask your followers." "Girllll… u could pay that whole entire GoFundMe why are you asking for our money…," another person wrote. Someone else added: "Why don’t you donate your own money to your friend’s dad’s medical treatment instead of asking your fans? You’re literally a millionaire and could easily afford it." "Never understood why celebrities share someone's GoFundMe page when I'm sure they could fund it all themselves," a fourth person commented. Now, Fox has since responded to the flak she's received, taking to Instagram Stories once again to set the record straight, and branding those who bashed her as "weirdos," and "psychos." “Hey weirdos. Do any of you have the emotional intelligence to consider that maybe [Boyce] doesn’t want her celebrity clients donating large sums of money to her because it creates a dynamic in her working relationships that makes her uncomfortable?” She continued: “I just obliged her request. Anything she needs from me personally she will ask and [I] will do it privately. One thing you’re not going to accuse me of is being miserly or lacking generosity. "So try again on another day (probably [tomorrow]!) with some different bulls***, you bunch of psychos.” At the time of writing, Boyce's GoFundMe has so far raised $8,126.
