5 things we learnt from Robbie Williams' explosive Netflix doc
Robbie Williams' highly anticipated docuseries has officially dropped on Netflix – and nothing was off limits. The four-part series kicked off by showing a 16-year-old Robbie joining Take That alongside Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald. Despite being an instant hit, Robbie left the band five years later. The remaining four members parted ways the following year. Now, the 49-year-old is looking back at his lifetime spent in the spotlight, with never-seen-before footage. Robbie Williams | Official Trailer | Netflix www.youtube.com Here are five of the major talking points from the show: What happened between him and collaborator Guy Chambers? In one of the eps, Robbie shared how the partnership between him and Guy Chambers started to break down in the early 2000s, explaining how he felt restricted when his song 'Come Undone' was dismissed. The pair went on to part ways when Robbie addressed that he wanted their partnership to end. "He melted and now there’s a different Guy. And maybe there’s a different me too… I think Guy thought, 'We are a band called Robbie Williams,' but I needed full control as much as possible," he explained. The pair later reunited and worked on albums including Swings Both Ways, Under the Radar volumes one to three and The Christmas Present. His feud with Gary Barlow "It seemed like there was one person being managed in Take That, and it was Gary Barlow," Robbie candidly revealed in the series. "It was all geared around him and, as young person, I would have been jealous of that. I suppose a lot of me resented him.” Robbie reacted to resurfaced footage which showed him making a joke that his former Take That band member "is dead". The first ep saw Robbie's daughter ask who he hated most in the band to which he confirmed it was Gary. "I’m sorry I treated Gary like that," he said. His relationship with Geri Halliwell Robbie dated Spice Girls' Geri Halliwell in the early 90s, while he was at Alcoholics Anonymous. At the time, Robbie believed that she was calling the paparazzi on the pair when they were out and about. However, he now takes that back. "Now I don't think that's true for one second, but at the time I did believe it," he said. "It just goes to show what being in the spotlight can do to you psychologically when you can't trust anybody." Why he left Take That... Robbie shared the real reason behind leaving Take That, after rumours it was due to addiction issues. Speaking to the cameras, he revealed: "The sense that I wasn't ready or capable to fulfil the role that was being asked of me was palpable. "One day I went in for rehearsals, and then at lunchtime, they said, 'Rob, we need to have a band meeting.' I said to the boys I just couldn't be there anymore. "Then they said, 'Look, we wanna see if we can do this tour as a four-piece. What do you think?' "And in the end, 'What do you think?' was me deciding to leave Take That." Opening up about his struggles... Robbie bravely opened up about his past struggles with drugs and alcohol, saying he "was ingesting everything [he] could get [his] hands on - ecstasy, cocaine, drinking." He went on to say that he drank "like a bottle of vodka" a night before going into rehearsals. "Everybody knew I was in trouble, but they didn't care, I'd gone past the point of no return," he said. "My life had spiralled out of control so severely that my manager understood what needed to happen, I needed to be carted off to rehab. He continued: "I used to drink and do drugs because it helped me not feel this way, when you strip that away all the everything comes up that you’ve been suppressing and I’ve been suppressing that for years. I’m depressed and I’m mentally ill." Robbie, who was diagnosed with depression in his early twenties, said: "People at this point still thought that if good things are happening to you and you're successful, what is there to be upset about? "I had to go on stage in front of thousands of people feeling like you’re on the hundredth floor, the room’s burning and you either stay in the room or burn to death or you jump out of the window to your death. It’s that uncomfortable." How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Bad Bunny slams 'sh***y' new TikTok AI song that replicates his voice
Bad Bunny has heard a song that's gone viral on TikTok which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to copy his voice, and the rapper isn't too happy about it. The Puerto Rican artist took to his WhatsApp channel to berate fans who have listened to the track which also uses AI vocals from Justin Bieber and Daddy Yankee. 'If you like that s***ty song that's viral on TikTok, get out of this group right now,' Bad Bunny wrote in Spanish, as per Daily Mail. 'I don't want them on the tour either.' In the post to his 19m followers, he added: 'You don't deserve to be my friends and that's why I made the new album, to get rid of people like that. So choo-choo out.' FlowGPT (Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee type) - DEMO 5: nostalgIA (Spanglish Version) www.youtube.com The AI song called 'nostalgIA' was created by FlowGPT, an AI tool that functions similarly to ChatGPT and the track was uploaded under the username flowgptmusic. Bad Bunny - whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - isn't the first musician to criticise AI replicating their voices on songs. Earlier this year, a song that used AI vocals of Drake and The Weeknd called 'Heart On My Sleeve,' was written and produced by TikTok user ghostwriter977. The track was later removed from Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. “This is the final straw AI," Drake said in response to an AI-generated cover of him rapping 'Munch' by Ice Spice. Theory resurfaces that Taylor Swift was once an active 4Chan user
A theory has resurfaced online that pop star Taylor Swift was previously a 4chan user. For those who don't know, 4chan is an image board website known for its controversial and offensive content posted by users. For years, a theory has existed surrounding the Blank Space singer being a potential user on the site, and it has seemingly resurfaced as many talk about their clues for the theory. Here is some of the evidence users have gathered: 1) In November 2011, a user asked 4chan to name their cat, with one suggestion being Meredith. A day later, Taylor Swift debuted her her cat Meredith. 2) Faces very similar to Swift's have show up on 4chan. With users going so far as to compare backgrounds featured in the pictures on 4chan and other photos uploaded by Swift on social media. 3) A /b/tard (a forum on 4chan) claims they once spoke to a musician on Omegle who said her name was Taylor and that she was on 4chan. 4) A user on the forum asked 4chan why they would say if they knew Taylor Swift would be reading it. 5) "One of the 50 most famous people on the planet" asked the forum for questions. 6) A 4chan user posted "Nothing quite like a freezing cold, wintery beach", the same day Swift posted the same thing to Twitter. Of course, this isn't exactly the most compelling evidence, and it's more likely to be a regular person crafting the illusion of being Swift by taking photos form her social media and some sly Photoshop. 4chan's founder Christopher Poole (a.k.a moot) told /b/ forum to stop talking about it, saying the photos can all be found online and the screenshots are Photoshopped. He added that the photos are posted from an IP "that is definitely not her." Of course, when did a disproved theory stop anyone from believing it? "Taylor Swift pays moot to say she isn't on /b/ so she can remain anonymous", wrote one speculative user on Reddit. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Kendall Jenner fans defend model's 'boring' near-nude Christmas shoot
Kendall Jenner unveiled a stunning new Christmas campaign for Jacquemus – and trolls have candidly shared their honest thoughts. A near-nude Jenner can be seen wearing only a Santa hat in one of the photos. In another shot posted to the French fashion brand's Instagram, the 28-year-old poses in a fleece jumper and skis – and it certainly got peoples' attention. It didn't take long for Instagrammers to comment on Jenner's bare bottom, with one writing: "Is the ass really necessary?" "Should’ve chosen a new face instead," another harshly wrote, while a third brutal follower added: "Super blend sorry… like really real boring. Nothing emanates from her as a model, I don’t even know how that’s possible… I don’t care about KJ but I do care about and love the original essence of Jacquemus and this ain’t it." While trolls were thick and fast under the post, fans of the star jumped to defend her work. "I am buying whatever Kendall Jenner is selling any day anytime. She is everything that I want to see on a campaign. For the haters, look in the mirror, you are hating yourself. Bring that karma to your lives," one user passionately gushed. Meanwhile, Spanish singer Rosalia shared the love by simply chiming in with a heart emoji. It comes after Jenner bravely opened up about her anxiety struggles on an episode of The Kardashians. "I swear he [her dog, Pyro] has really bad separation anxiety," she told Scott Disick, Kourtney Kardashian's ex. "I have anxiety and I think he has anxiety. Maybe I’m the problem, maybe he feels my anxiety? I could be the problem. I’ve been really bad lately. It’s one of the reasons why I’m actually scared to have children." Harry Styles shaved his hair off and became an instant meme
Fans of the British singer Harry Styles have been left bereft after the star cut off his luscious locks and got a buzz cut. For many of his devoted fanbase, his famous hair is part of his charm and it was even captured in the artist David Hockney’s portrait of him, which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. Rumours had already begun to swirl about his new look before it appeared to be confirmed after he was spotted at a U2 concert in Las Vegas in a very grainy photo. One fan begged, “Lord please help me in these difficult times” as they shared the apparent confirmation that Styles now has a “buzz cut”. The message they shared claimed that the former One Direction member still looks good. But, it seems the loss of his formerly side-swept hair affected fans very deeply as the whole thing became an instant meme. While there is no solid proof beyond a grainy picture, it seems some of his most loyal following might need a moment to process it, if true. With the help of videos, pictures and memes, fans certainly did not hold back in letting their feelings of grief known. One person had a theory that he did it because he watched the Beckham documentary on Netflix and got inspired by the early 2000s nostalgia of it all. K-pop group STAYC declared "We love Rangers" during a visit to the Scottish football club after they sported the side's jersey by mistake when they performed in Dallas, Texas. Last month, the band made headlines when a nod to the city’s beloved baseball team, the Texas Rangers didn't quite go to plan as the six-piece band from South Korea instead wore vintage Rangers FC jerseys from the 1990s. Since donning the footballing strip sported by legends Paul Gascoigne and Ally McCoist back in 1996/7, the mix-up caught the attention of Scottish Premiership followers. This story continued on Monday when STAYC announced a surprise meet-up with fans at Ibrox. The band members Sumin, Sieun, Isa, Seeun, Yoon, and J were invited by Rangers for a tour around the football stadium where they were given a custom-made Rangers strip with the number 23 and STAYC printed on the back and were introduced to mascot Broxi Bear. Rick Ross reveals he's been left with seizures after he 'partied hard' and drank lean
American rapper Rick Ross has opened up about his health and lifestyle after suffering a heart attack in 2018, revealing he had to make “big changes”. The 47-year-old rose to fame in 2008 thanks to his smash hit track Hustlin’ and has since come to be known as an influential figure in hip hop. With his wealth, he has accumulated some strange material items, including some pet buffalo and a mansion littered with clothes and shoes. But, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the rapper admitted to being in poor health in past years. When asked about his health, he explained, “I had to make some big changes”, Ross explained: “I still don’t sleep. I’m a partier. I’m gonna be that way till I die. I’ve tried taking things to help, but it’s useless. The medicine that I take now is for seizures and s**t like that. I partied hard.” The rapper said one of his biggest habits was drinking lean – a recreational drug that is made by mixing prescription medicine with a drink – but, it led him to suffering seizures. “When you have a seizure, you wake up six hours later like, ‘Where am I?’ I still don’t want to sleep. I lay down for two or three hours, but then I’ll get up. “Six hours is good for me. An hour is a wonderful nap for me. If I lay down for an hour, I can get up and play a football game,” Ross explained. He added that, while he’s never had diabetes or used the diabetes drug Ozempic to lose weight, he has had to cut out sodas and stop his habit of eating full meals in the middle of the night. The rapper revealed, “One of my worst habits was, I’d be up in the middle of the night eating T-bone steaks and ordering Waffle House. The chef would make some s**t for us at 2 a.m., and we’d want spaghetti, lasagna, and some lamb chops, and some garlic rolls, for no reason. “And that’s what we’re eating in the middle of the night! So, for me to get up to 350 pounds, once I stopped that, I’m fittin’ to chill.” The rapper admitted in a 2017 appearance on Dr. Oz that there was a period in 2011 when he was having back-to-back seizures. He explained, “I went hard,” adding, “It didn't seem as bad to me because the majority of the time I would be putting in work. The other time I would be partying, and the rest of the time it kind of blended. And that went on for years and years and years. I just developed those certain patterns”.
