Dunkin’ Donuts has launched a new drink collaboration with rapper Ice Spice, but its recipe has raised some eyebrows among coffee lovers. The Bronx-born rapper - who recently won Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV VMAs - debuted a brand new drink with America’s favourite coffee company on Wednesday 13 September. Dubbed the “Ice Spice Munchkins Drink”, the cold beverage blends frozen coffee with pumpkin cake Munchkins, Dunkin’s famous bite-sized doughnut holes. The drink is then topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. This is also the first time a Dunkin’ bakery item has made its way into a drink, in what the brand has called “a collaboration you never knew you needed”. While the Boston-based coffee company is excited about the new pumpkin-flavoured drink just in time for fall, it seems that many Dunkin’ aficionados are taken aback by the contents of the Ice Spice Munchkins Drink. In a post shared to X - formerly known as Twitter - popular account Pop Crave shared an image of the Ice Spice Munchkins Drink official recipe. The quantity of coffee syrup and liquid cane sugar varies with size. A small contains four pumps of liquid cane sugar and two pumps of coffee syrup, while the largest offering contains four pumps of coffee and eight pumps of cane sugar. For a large size drink, four Munchkins, which are each 4g of sugar, are blended into the drink, followed by three spins of caramel drizzle in the cup, whipped cream, and then three spins of caramel drizzle again. It’s fitting that Dunkin’ has collaborated with Ice Spice for its new drink, considering it literally consists of both ice and pumpkin spice. The drink is also named after Ice Spice’s fan base, who call themselves Munchkins after her 2022 song, “Munch (Feelin’ U)”. However, some people took issue with the Ice Spice Munchkins Drink recipe for its lack of, well, coffee. “Where is the coffee?” asked one user on X. “Is there any actual coffee in this drink LMFAOO,” said someone else. “This should be illegal idk,” another wrote. Others were also confused how the baristas at Dunkin’ were able to combine Munchkin doughnut holes in a frozen drink. “MUNCHKINS in a beverage?! There’s just, so many things wrong with this,” one person said. “Wait, I’m a little confused… are there Munchkins IN the coffee????????” another shared. Some people simply couldn’t read the Ice Spice Munchkins Drink recipe without being concerned by the sugar content. According to the Dunkin’ website, a medium Ice Spice Munchkins Drink at Dunkin’ is 830 calories, which is reportedly equal to three and a half glazed doughnuts. A large, on the other hand, is 1,080 calories and equal to four and a half glazed doughnuts. “As the child of a nutritionist I am positively terrified by this,” said one user, while another said: “This gonna send me into a sugar coma,” To announce its newest drink collaboration, Dunkin’s official brand ambassador Ben Affleck teamed up with Ice Spice for a new commercial that aired during the 2023 MTV VMAs on Tuesday 12 September. In the ad, the Boston native sat down in an office with the “Barbie World” rapper to brainstorm names for her new Dunkin’ drink. Ice Spice mentioned that she calls her fans "munchkins”, leading to the introduction of the Ice Spice Munchkins Drink. “I’ve always been a Dunkin’ girl!” Ice Spice said in a press release. “Collaborating with Dunkin’ and Ben Affleck on this spot was a dream. League One club Reading have been docked three points after failing to comply with an order designed to protect payments to staff. An independent disciplinary commission had ordered the Royals’ ownership to deposit a sum equal to 125 per cent of the club’s forecast monthly wage bill into a designated account by Tuesday. The commission had imposed the order after determining last month that the club had failed to pay player wages on time and in full on or around October 31 and November 30 last year, and on April 28 this year. As a result of those missed payments, the commission docked Reading one point, with a further three suspended, a sanction which has now been triggered by the failure to deposit the funds requested. An EFL statement said: “The EFL continues to acknowledge the negative impact sporting sanctions are having on the football club and remain extremely disappointed and frustrated at the club’s ownership to meet its ongoing obligations under EFL regulations. The League will continue to apply its rules in all circumstances deemed appropriate.” The club released their own statement confirming the activation of the three-point penalty, which concluded: “As communicated to our supporters previously, Mr Dai (Yongge, the club’s Chinese owner) is currently undertaking an ongoing process of seeking sources of stable external investment for the football club, with the aim of mitigating the risk of cashflow complications arising in future.” The latest points penalty means that the Royals fall to 21st position in the League One table. They have won two of their opening six matches but have now lost four points in total which leaves them in the relegation zone. Disillusioned Royals supporters have set up a fan group to protest the running of the club called Sell Before We Dai. And they issued a statement in response to the latest points deduction. The group’s spokesperson Nick Houlton said: “The hard work by the team and others at the club is being undermined by Dai Yongge’s continued failure to resolve the club’s affairs. Today’s announcement is a kick in the teeth for the team, staff and fans alike. “To breach these conditions immediately indicates serious liquidity issues going forward. We urge Dai to step up his search for a new owner and listen to offers. Only last month, the EFL specifically called out Dai Yongge, saying it was extremely frustrated at the consistent failures under his ownership. “Points deductions and transfer embargoes punish fans, not owners. Harry Maguire’s mother has hit back on social media and defended her son after the centre-back received more criticism in the wake of his latest performance for England. Maguire came off the bench at half-time as England won 3-1 against Scotland on Tuesday but the former Manchester United captain came under fire once again after scoring an unfortunate own-goal. The 30-year-old has endured a tough spell in recent months but remained in Gareth Southgate’s England squad despite falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The England boss came to his defence in the post-match press conference, with Maguire’s mother, Zoe, now also voicing her opinion in a social media post that criticised the abuse he has received. “As a mum seeing the level of negative and abusive comments in which my son is receiving from some fans, pundits and the media is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to any walk of life never mind someone who works his socks off for club and country,” she said on Instagram. “I was there in the stand as usual, it’s not acceptable what’s been created, over nothing. I understand that in the football world there are ups and downs, positives and negatives but what Harry receives has gone far beyond ‘football’. For me seeing him go through what he’s going through is not ok. “I would hate to have to see any other parents or players go through this in the future, especially the young boys and girls breaking through the ranks today. Harry has a massive heart and it’s a good job he’s mentally strong and can handle it as others might not be able too. England striker Chloe Kelly expects the women’s game to continue growing in the country despite the Lionesses’ World Cup final heartbreak. The Manchester City forward, match-winner in the Euro 2022 final, this time experienced the heartbreak of defeat as England were beaten by Spain in Sydney last month. But the 25-year-old looks on the tournament as a whole as a positive experience that is only likely to generate further interest in the sport. She feels proof of that came on Thursday as City announced a new agreement with baby gear brand Joie to become the new naming rights partner of their Academy Stadium. “It was a great summer, and a great summer for women’s football and England,” said Kelly, “It’s great to be winning the Euros and then going on to a World Cup final. It’s great for the country and great for the women’s game. “That success obviously brings deals like this to the women’s game, which is really important for the growth of the game. It is exciting and there is a lot to come still.” Kelly has already put the disappointment of the World Cup final loss behind her as she focuses on pre-season training with City. She said: “It’s good to get back in with the team, get back on the pitch, keep learning, find those relationships again and keep building on last season. “Of course I’m not on top of my game as it’s still pre-season - I don’t want to peak too early - and it is really important we build as we go. “Starting the season well is really important but I think as we go we need to get better. It’s important not starting where we need to be at the end of the season. We need to be consistent throughout.” After missing out on honours last term, and narrowly falling short of a Champions League spot, Kelly is determined for the team to make its mark. She added: “We want to be winning trophies.
