Vandals set fire to and destroyed a seminal artwork by one of Italy’s most famous living artists on Wednesday 12 July. By the time flames were doused, all that was left of the installation by Michelangelo Pistoletto was a charred frame. Burger King in Thailand have launched a bizarre new product - a “real cheeseburger” made with 20 slices of American cheese and no meat. The Thai operator of the US fast food chain announced that the burger was available at its outlets nationwide starting Sunday 9 July. Footage shows burger-lover Thanaporn Chatcharaporn, 26, tucking into the dish at a branch in Bangkok. “It’s very, very salty. Almost too salty to eat. The smell is also very strong. At the first bite, it gave me goosebumps, but I couldn’t finish the whole thing. I wanted to try it just to see what it was like,” she said. Greenpeace activists in France dumped nearly a ton of green algae outside the Finistere administrative headquarters in Quimper, Brittany on Monday, in protest over the amount of green algae off the coast caused by industrial and factory farming. Calling for an end to the construction of industrial cattle farms in the region, members of the environmental group unfurled banners reading “Green algae: asphyxiated Brittany” and “Brittany polluted: the state is guilty”. The activists released green and black smoke during the protest, and some were moved away from the algae by police as authorities moved in to clear the streets. Experts have discovered the cause of death for a sperm whale that washed up unexpectedly on the shores of Spain’s La Palma island - €500,000 of “floating gold”. The impressive discovery was made after experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria carried out a post-mortem, with authorities initially unsure how the 15-ton, 13-metre-long whale washed up on Nogales beach last month. “When I dissected and removed the stone I turned around and everyone on the beach looked at me in surprise, but for me at that moment I understood where the origin of the infection was coming from,” Antonio Fernández Rodríguez, the head of the Institute of Animal Health and Food Security at the university, said. The stone, he explained, was a large lump of precious ambergris, a rare substance sometimes known as “floating gold”. Rescue workers rushed to a school in Donetsk, Ukraine, to find survivors and clear debris after Russian forces hit the building on Friday (30 June) The strike hit a primary school in the village of Serhiivka, killing two people including a teacher and injuring six others, according to the Ukrainian general prosecutor's office. Around 12 people were in the educational facility when it was struck, the general prosecutor said. One person has been recovered from the rubble, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said on Friday afternoon.
