Tube driver leads ‘Free Palestine’ chant ahead of London march
A driver on the London Underground has been filmed leading a “free Palestine” chant ahead of pro-Palestine protests in the capital. Footage, shared by social media user Ruby Lott-Lavigna, sees the driver over the speaker saying “free free” before the people on the carriage shout “Palestine”. The driver can also be heard saying: “Hope you all have a blessed day today, and look after yourselves. “His well-wishes are greeted with whoops and cheers from the crowd who listen on as he concludes by saying "and keep those people in your prayers.” Lott-Lavigna posted the video and wrote: “Central line tube driver carrying hundreds of people to the free palestine march in london leads the tube in a chant. “Says he wanted to be there but couldn’t get the day off.” Crowds converged on Downing Street on Saturday 21 October as diplomatic efforts intensified to allow access for humanitarian aid to Gaza and secure the release of hostages. Ahead of the protest, James Cleverly, the foreign secretary, reiterated the UK’s support of Israel’s right to defend itself. He also called on Israel to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Palestinians in Gaza and urged the country’s defence forces to act with “discipline” in its response to the Hamas attack. He warned that failure to show restraint could spark wider instability in the Middle East at a time of heightened political tensions around the globe. “The UK is clear and has been consistently clear that Israel has the right to self-defence and the right to secure the release of those who are kidnapped on 7 October,” he told an international peace summit in Cairo, Egypt. “And we are also clear that we must work, and they must work, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and that their actions are in accordance with international law.” indy100 has reached out to TFL for comment. What happened between SSSniperWolf and JacksFilms? Biggest feud on YouTube explained
YouTuber SSSniperWolf has come in for widespread criticism after doxxing fellow YouTuber JacksFilms after months of back-and-forth between the two. JacksFilms, whose real name is John Douglass, has long been a critic of SSSniperWolf, real name Alia Shelesh, taking issue with her content style and accusing her of stealing work from other creators. In 2022, Douglass created a second channel, "JJJacksfilms", where he uploaded videos poking fun at SSSniperWold. In the last two months alone, he has posted 40 videos reacting and commenting on SSSniperWolf's videos. In a series of heated tweets, Shelesh accused Douglass of not being able to "stand that a female YouTuber is getting more views" than him. However, things escalated dramatically when Shelesh turned up to Douglass' house and doxxed him on her Instagram story. On October 14, Shelesh posted a poll to her Instagram story asking fans whether she should go to Douglass' house because she was only "five mins away" from where she was filming. She then posted a photo outside of his house accompanied with "Let's talk like adults". After a wave of backlash, Shelesh deleted the post. Then going on to say "accusing me of doxxing is defamation" and that "this creep has been harassing me for months then plays victim saying I threatened him when I just wanted to talk to him". Douglass then tweeted: "You posted a video tonight of you outside our home for your 5M+ followers to see. While my wife and I were inside. "If that's not doxxing, why did you delete it?" Douglass and many others then called on YouTube to take action against Shelesh in a video titled "SSSniperwold came to our home last night. It's time for YouTube to step in". YouTuber Philip DeFranco called Shelesh's behaviour "insane and reckless" as well as criticising YouTube's response that seemed to disprove of both SSSniperwolf and JacksFilms behaviour. YouTube finally responded to the situation after facing backlash for remaining silent, sating they had "temporarily" demonetised SSSniperWolf due to her actions. But many thought it didn't go far enough and believed that Shelesh should be removed from the platform entirely, accusing the platform of showing favouritism towards Shelesh. On October 20, Shelesh issued an apology on Twitter/X, calling her actions "inexcusable". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. 7 things to never do on a plane according to a flight attendant
There are certain unwritten rules when it comes to travelling. Be polite, don’t invade anyone’s space, and keep your shoes on. Amid a global pandemic, perhaps we should add wearing a mask to that list, too. But there are other things you probably should - and shouldn't - do if you’re travelling on a plane, as one former flight attendant revealed. The former flight attendant took to Reddit and answered some of the most important questions about flying. Reddit user adrianne456, whose credentials have been verified by Reddit, wrote: “I've been a flight attendant for a little under two years for a regional airline that serves three of the US' major airlines. “I worked on 80 seater aircrafts with one other flight attendant and two pilots. It's been a great experience, but today - I quit.” indy100 compiled a list of things not to do on a plane based on what adrianne456 revealed… Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter 1. Do not take a seat in first class (unless you have a ticket) "You will get embarrassed." 2. Don’t drink the tea or coffee "I personally would not drink the potable water from the aircraft. So the tea, coffee...I would avoid. The water isn’t so bad but how often do you really think those tanks are cleaned?" 3. Don’t try to join the Mile High Club, they know what you’re trying to do no matter how subtle you think you are "We can pretty much see what everyone is doing on the plane for the most part. I would see two people going in the bathroom easily." 4. Don’t do a poo "Don't take a s*** on the plane. PLEASE. Sometimes I get it, you just have to go but damn, close the door behind you…" 5. In fact, don’t use the bathroom while boarding either You are really getting in the flight attendant's way. 6. Don’t eat directly off the table trays "The overnight crew cleans the aircraft. But I would say [they clean it], very rarely." 7. Don't sit in the back if you're scared of turbulence "Try to get a seat assignment near the front of the aircraft. Turbulence is always going to be worst in the back of the aircraft." Have your say in our news democracy. There are four letters you never want to see on your boarding pass
There's one stamp you never want to get on your boarding pass - SSSS. If you have ever been pulled to one side at the airport, it may be because you have the letters SSSS scrawled in marker pen over your boarding pass. The letters, used by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) stand for 'Secondary Security Screening Selection' or else 'Secondary Security Screening Selectee'. The code came to light in 2009 when the TSA handbook was accidentally leaked online by the government, without being redacted or edited in the usual way. Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter Passengers who are selectees are prohibited from printing their boarding pass at home or using a machine to check-in. They will need to check-in at the desk, where they will be asked more thorough questions than other passengers, and undergo less cursory perfunctory identity checks. The boarding pass issued to the passenger will have the letters 'SSSS' written on it, and this means airport staff will be scrutinising the passenger at every checkpoint. TSA agents will also conduct full-body scans, a pat-down, and go through the passenger's luggage, asking them to turn on all electronic devices. The process can take over 30 minutes, so passengers who find they are unable to print their boarding pass at home, should factor in the extra half-hour in their journey to the gate, just in case they undergo secondary screening. Criteria for being selected for secondary security screening can include: Paying for your ticket in cash. Flying to a 'high risk' destination. The random selection also takes place, but some passengers will be selected repeatedly. In April 2010, the New York Times found several children who were repeatedly selected for secondary screening, possibly because their names were similar to persons on the 'No Fly' list. Passengers who feel they are regularly and unfairly targeted can apply to the Department of Homeland Security to find out if they have incorrectly been put on a watch list. Map of UK as US states sparks intense online debate
A map of the United Kingdom as US states has sparked debate about how British regions and counties compare to their American counterparts. For reasons unknown, the Twitter account “Milkman Memes For Lib Dem Teens” decided to attempt the wildly-controversial task of assigning states to the UK over the weekend, with the results sparking a mixture of debate and outrage online. Some of the decisions are pretty obvious: for example, London is clearly New York – a culturally rich and terrifying expensive major world city. However, others are less clear – especially as the explanations offered by Milkman Memes range from vague social commentary to geographical similarities. You can find the full map below: As ever with these things, whether any of these decisions make sense is a matter of gut instinct but here are some that fit quite well: And here are some that are more questionable… Anyone claiming that Preston is the “British Las Vegas” has surely not spent much time in either of those cities – especially when the UK’s Las Vegas is clearly Blackpool... Thankfully, some other users have come up with alternative suggestions for the different parts of the country, with some pretty detailed thinking behind them: Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
