Climate activist Greta Thunberg has recreated a scene from the Barbie movie while protesting new plans from the UK government about the proposed Rosebank oil field. In a video shared by the campaign group Stop Cambo, which aims to prevent new oil & gas extraction, Thunberg and her fellow environmental activists can be seen outside a UK government building. The four activists then recreate the scene from the Barbie movie where Margot Robbie's stereotypical Barbie has a big blowout party at her house but is overcome with existential thoughts of death leading her to ask her friends: "Do you guys ever think about dying?" In Thunberg's recreation, the text overlay has the 20-year-old Swede ask: "Do you guys ever think about the climate crisis?" As in the movie, the question leads to an awkward pause but the awkward pauses don't come from other Barbies and Kens but instead Rishi Sunak, Grant Shapps and Equinor a Norwegian energy company that runs the Rosebank oil field. The caption for the video reads: "For a safe climate and affordable energy, richer countries like the UK must stop expanding oil and gas production. But UK ministers @rishisunakmp, @grantshapps and oil giant @equinor wants to open the massive Rosebank oil field. This one project would produce more CO2 than the world’s 28 poorest countries do in a year. We can stop it." Rosebank lies west of the Shetland Islands in Scotland and was discovered in 2004. If regulators approve the plans, production in the. area could begin as early as 2026. Have your say in our news democracy. Man who 'transformed' himself into a dog makes new friends in public for first time
A Japanese man, who spent £12,500 transforming himself into a dog, has begun to take his first steps outside into public life and has immediately made his own set of four-legged friends as well as some human ones. The man, known only as Toco, has spent around two million Yen on the hyper-realistic border collie outfit in order to live out his dream of "becoming an animal." In the most recent video on his YouTube channel, which has more than 31,000 subscribers, Toco can be seen playing in public, rolling around, performing tricks and interacting with other dogs. As the video progresses, he can be seen being led around by his handler on a makeshift leash (more of a trolley) as other dogs sniff him and people take pictures. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter In the caption for the video, which has been viewed more than 1 million times, Toco reveals that the footage was actually shot for a German TV station in 2022. Toco writes: "My name is Toco, I wanted to be an animal and I became a collie. This channel will bring you such an unusual video. This video was shot last year when I was interviewed by RTL, a German TV station. Thankfully, I received permission to use the videos, so I am releasing them to the public! On the day of the interview, they were very kind to me. Thank you very much!" Dogs and people's reactions to seeing a realistic dog costume! www.youtube.com Many people in the comments to the video were fascinated by the other dogs' reactions to the costume. One person wrote: "I love how we can witness dogs experiencing the uncanny valley, that is phenomenal. Besides that, if even dogs are unsettled it says a lot." Another said: "Even the dogs know something ain’t right" A third added: "The dogs were not fooled lol. That must’ve been freaky for them." In December 2022, when speaking to the Daily Mirror, Toco admitted that he's now concerned about what his friends will think of him now that he has undergone his transformation. He said: "I rarely tell my friends because I am afraid they will think I am weird. My friends and family seemed very surprised to learn I became an animal." Have your say in our news democracy. Terrifying unidentified desert creature spotted in the background of viral video
If you spend long enough on TikTok you'll find yourself tumbling down a rabbit hole of weirdness and otherworldly stuff that you never knew existed but are probably fascinated by now. For instance, do you remember in 2020 when all those strange monoliths began appearing in deserts across the United States for no obvious reason? Well, a video has reemerged of that phenomenon revealing something far more sinister than we could have ever anticipated. On the TikTok account @the_paranormal_chic, a video shows a group of three young people who have been on a road trip to see one of the monoliths in the desert. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The person filming the experience complains that they have driven 15 hours to see the sculpture only to discover that it is no longer there. However, disturbingly in the background of the shot appears to be some sort of unidentified creature hiding in the rocks, complete with bulging eyes and large sharp teeth. The creature can also be seen to be moving what looks like arms or possibly tentacles around. @the_paranormal_chic Skinwalker or Unidentified Creature caught on camera? #skinwalker #unidentified #creature #theparanormalchic #paranormal #paranormaltiktok #supernatural #skinwalkerranch #monolith #utah #unexplained #monster #supernatural #caughtoncamera #creepy #fyp The caption for the video asks if the creature is possibly a 'skinwalker' but people in the comments had different ideas. One person wrote: "Is a demon, just that you can't see it in the flesh..." Another said: "Looks like a big spider an the white part is markings on it to make it look like something it's not." A third wrote: "Maam that's a VELOCIRAPTOR!!!" Some questioned why one of the women in the video was laughing suggesting that the whole thing was a prank. The Paranormal Chic responded by saying: "I think she was laughing at him because they drove 15hrs and didn’t get to see it." What do you think was going on? An elaborate prank or a disturbing creature lurking in the darkness? Have your say in our news democracy. Cam girls reveal the weirdest requests that they've ever been sent
Streamer and Only Fans content creator Ashley Tea, took to Twitter to ask cam girls what's the weirdest request they/ve ever been asked, and it was definitely eyeopening. The replies were full of cam girls sharing the weirdest requests they've got from clients, some seeming almost unbelievable, one woman simply commented "where to start..." However, the majority seemingly had that 'one' request that stuck with them, and they were kind enough to share them with the internet. "Someone ask for a custom where I turned them into a turkey. cooked them in the oven, and then ate them from their PoV," one woman commented. She added that the request came when she first started out as a creator and is "honestly sad" that she didn't accept the request at the time. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Another cam girl shared that she "had someone ask me to take my hair extensions and clip them to a thing and pretend I had really long butthole hair." Many couldn't believe the request and asked if she had fulfilled it, but she explained that she hadn't because "he wanted me to do to for $35 so no. My base charge is 150." In the more shocking requests shared, one said that "a guy asked me to dissect a frog in my fanciest lingerie, did not do it lol." "My time has come," replied one cam girl to the question of what was her weirdest request. "I was asked to film myself pooping in a box, send him the poop, get in a call, and instruct him how to eat it. I said 'Sure! For $5,000.' 'I can only send $100, goddess." Another user replied asking her to clarify that if he had the money, would she have done it. "Yeah Probably!" She responded. Another creator shared that she had been asked for a video of her "driving in my car, seat close to the steering wheel, talking the whole time about how afraid of the airbag I am." This request went one step further, however, with the client asking for "a sequel 2 years later, where I am NOT afraid of the airbag anymore, and actually, I feel BETTER all scooted up!" Whilst many shared the strangest requests they had received, many said that they felt they couldn't even share the weirdest content they'd been asked to make, claiming it being too taboo for the mainstream internet. The Twitter thread wasn't short of stories, and gives a glimpse into the sometimes weird parts of being a cam girl. Have your say in our news democracy. 'His job is beach' is the internet's new favourite meme
Barbie, which has now been in cinemas for a week and set countless box office records, continues to be a viral sensation with the latest meme coming courtesy of Ken's job in the film: beach. If you've seen the film (and if not, then why not?) then you will have probably been charmed by Ryan Gosling's performance as the confused and downtrodden Ken who apart from trying to catch the eye of Barbie has taken the internet by storm for his very simply job. Although Ken doesn't feel like his role in Barbie Land is fulfilling his many dreams and desires he does take his job at the beach very seriously and is very keen to let everyone know about it. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter This hilariously brief one-liner is repeated a few times during the movie but despite there being bigger jokes throughout the film this one gag has captured meme makers of the world's imaginations with many using the line for other big screen characters. But what if Ken went to the wrong beach... Sadly beach is not for everyone. Other jobs are available. With all that in mind we're off to find out how to apply for the beach job. Mitch McConnell memes are another sign the internet at its worst
You might detest his politics, but can cracking jokes at the expense of an 81-year-old having a very public health episode ever be a good look? When Republican Senator Mitch McConnell appeared to freeze mid-sentence during a press conference, before being led away by his team, social media was quickly inundated with reaction. McConnell stopped speaking for 19 seconds before being escorted away by concerned colleagues, appearing to sway slightly and lose focus. An aide explained that McConnell had “felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment”. They continued: “He came back to handle Q&A, which as everyone observed was sharp.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The memes following the incident were relentless, with people calling on him to retire. Again, much like the reaction to the Titan submersible tragedy and the riots in France earlier this summer, it shows the often cruel, reactionary nature of social media, with people quick to chip in on major incidents in the name of a few easy likes. Calling for younger leaders to represent Americans is perfectly valid, but outright mocking and joking about what appeared to be a serious health concern shows the internet at its least empathetic. Yes, it’s a buzzkill sentiment, and McConnell’s brand of politics has been completely oppositional to many over the years, but that shouldn’t excuse piling on an elderly public figure suffering an episode in the most public of spaces, should it? Some did express similar thoughts online, with one writing: “Oh also about this McConnell business. Y’all need to keep it cute with your insults! Not about McConnell (**** him) but because several people are making ableist and ageist jokes. You can talk about him without elderly and disabled people catching strays.” Another said: “All the people in the comments joking about this - i dont find it funny at all. I’m no Mitch McConnell girlie in the slightest but he’s had some serious health issues… Lets not joke about people’s health and scary situations like this.” It’s not the first time health concerns have been raised about McConnell. In March, the 81-year-old suffered a fall at a Washington DC hotel and was hospitalised due to concussion and a minor rib fracture. After undergoing rehab, he returned to Congress in April.
