Inter Miami reportedly leading the race to sign Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi is reportedly set to join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal understood to be out of the race. The 35-year-old Argentina star had been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, a league which already features Cristiano Ronaldo and now Karim Benzema, with Messi’s two-year contract at Paris St Germain coming to an end this month. However, the PA news agency understands a move to the Middle East is now no longer on the cards, placing Inter Miami in pole position for Messi. The Major League Soccer side are co-owned by former England captain David Beckham and were founded in 2018, playing their first season two years later. Miami recently sacked Beckham’s former Manchester United and England team-mate Phil Neville as coach and are currently bottom of the 15-team Eastern Conference, but they remain a fiercely ambitious club. The PA news agency understands the Florida side have pulled out all the stops to sign Messi, tying up with various MLS partners like Apple. A deal in principle has now reportedly been agreed that will see Messi head to the United States after PSG confirmed last week he would be leaving. Messi was reportedly being offered a deal worth 400m euros (£343.5m) per year to move to Saudi Arabia. He is also an ambassador for the Gulf kingdom’s tourist authority, and was handed a two-week suspension by PSG early last month for taking an unauthorised trip there. Influencer slammed for selling $50 t-shirts dyed by her 5-year-old son
An influencer from Australia has rubbed some people the wrong way after promoting her son's handmade T-shirts on social media priced between $50 and $60. Ruby Tuesday Matthews took to her Instagram Stories, writing: "Mars has a few shirts and singlets that we are going to sell here," "100 (sic) of the profits go into his piggy bank as he does not have a bank account yet." She continued: "He just owes me money for the die (sic) and shirts LOL but I’ll let that slide." The seemingly innocent business venture caused a stir online – especially when it caught the attention of influencer watchdog, Dutch Minty. “What do you think of @rubytuesdaymatthews selling tie dyed tshirts for $50+ made by her 5 year old?” the account posted, according to AU News. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "I'm sure she has plenty of spare change she could be putting in her son's piggy bank. $50 for a tie-dye shirt and they tie-dye isn't even that vibrant? Ya joking," one person hit back, while another added: "Yeah bc we’re going to buy shirts to fund a kid's piggy bank, surely gotta be taking the p**s. The physical cringe reaction I had to this." Others joked about the extinction of old-fashioned lemonade stands. Despite some negative comments towards the concept, others simply didn't find anything wrong with it. "I’m all for teaching kids how to make money and save. I believe it needs to be taught from a young age. Makes them appreciate things a lot better. Money doesn’t grow on trees," one person chimes in. "If her fans want to pay for something her kid did let them! She’s laughing all the way to the bank," a second added. Indy100 reached out to Ruby for comment. Have your say in our news democracy. Jude Bellingham will join Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund this summer after the Germans announced a deal in principle worth €103 million (£88.5m) plus add-ons. The German club, who missed out on the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich after a heartbreaking final day of the season, confirmed the terms on the club website. The statement outlined how the add-ons could rise to 30 percent of the fixed amount. The 19-year-old will now undergo medical tests and agree personal terms with the Spanish giants. The England star joins Real’s collection of young midfield stars, including Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde. Pence 2024 news - live: Former vice president Mike Pence launches presidential campaign against Trump
Former vice president Mike Pence on Wednesday announced that he is entering the running for the 2024 presidential election, setting up a heated competition for the Republican nomination with former president Donald Trump. In a launch video for his campaign, Mr Pence said a “different leadership” could turn the country around to prevent the American dream from being “crushed”. “Today our party and our country need a leader that will appeal, as Lincoln said, to the better angels of our nature,” Mr Pence continued. While the video highlights Mr Pence’s work as vice president, it avoids making a single mention of the man he served during that period – Mr Trump. In an increasingly crowded GOP field, Mr Pence faces competition from fellow ex-Trump administration figures, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. Mr Pence served as a member of the House of Representatives between 2001 and 2013 and as Indiana’s governor between 2013 and 2017, but rose to international attention as Mr Trump’s running-mate in 2016. He is the first vice president in modern US history to run against his former running mate.
