Perfection can come in many forms and be interpreted in different ways. Manchester City has produced more polished performances under Pep Guardiola this season. There have been matches where it has scored more and created more -- yet the team's ability to dominate its opponent, to do just enough to win when it matters is as perfect as it gets on a soccer pitch. It is why and how this team continues to chase history.

Ruben Dias, 7 A picture of authority in the centre of defence. The Portuguese is back to his best and he looked like he coasted through the final. Manuel Akanji, 7 Another key City performer who makes everything look so simple. Wins his individual duels and creates the platform for players like Gundgoan to be match-winners higher up the pitch. John Stones, 9 Outstanding in the second half as his growing influence helped City take back control. May have been man of the match if it wasn’t for Gundogan’s double. Rodri, 8 Hardly put a foot wrong defensively - or with the ball. Such a reliable performer week after week. Bernardo Silva, 6 A quieter afternoon for the Portuguese - didn’t have his usual big-game impact on the right. Kevin De Bruyne, 7 Mesmeric in the second half and showed his class to take the game away from United. Taken off after 75 minutes with the Champions League final in mind. Ilkay Gundogan, 9 City’s man for the big occasion. His record-breaking opener after 13 seconds was a dream strike, the second wasn’t struck as purely but the German’s sense of timing is extraordinary. Player of the match. Jack Grealish, 6 Didn’t look sharp enough in the first half. Unfortunate with the penalty, but his place in the team ahead of the Champions League final could be uncertain now. Erling Haaland, 7 The striker had some good moments against Raphael Varane but the match was won elsewhere. His work rate remained high. Manchester United David de Gea, 5 Gundogan’s second looked soft and although De Gea may argue he couldn’t see it through a pack of bodies, what’s clear is United need an upgrade in goal. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 5 The right back won his individual battle with Grelaish but was unable to offer much else. Victor Lindelof, 4 Beaten by Haaland in the move for Gundogan’s opener inside 15 seconds and replaced in the closing stages as Ten Hag rolled the dice. Raphael Varane, 5 Looked to get tight with Haaland and be physical but the City striker was still able to roll him on a couple of occasions. Luke Shaw, 5 Managed to keep Bernardo Silva quiet but was pinned back by City’s relentless pressing. Casemiro, 4 Unable to influence the game from midfield apart from putting in a couple of robust challenges - needed more help from elsewhere. Fred, 4 Struggled to match De Bruyne in the second half and gave away the free kick that led to Gundogan’s second with a foul on the Belgian. Bruno Fernandes, 5 Tucked away a first-half penalty to equalise for United but his team needed more from their influential captain. Christian Eriksen, 3 Looked off the pace and struggled to match City’s intensity in midfield. Taken off on the hour. Jadon Sancho, 3 The winger didn’t turn up and was fortunate he wasn’t removed too with half an hour to play. Sancho didn’t take the warning and was hooked just 17 minutes later. Marcus Rashford, 5 Starved of service for large spells and didn’t look fully fit. Centre forward just doesn’t suit his abilities but wasn’t too far away with a touch and hit from outside of the area. Subs Alejandro Garnacho, 7: Took responsibility and went close with a bending effort. Should have started. Wout Weghorst, 4: Didn’t make an impact and was frustratingly caught offside when the ball was played long to him. Donald Trump is under fire from Republicans for complimenting North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un after his country was admitted to the World Health Organisation’s Executive Board. “Congratulations to Kim Jung Un!” the former president wrote on Truth Social, misspelling his name while sharing news of the admission. The post drew immediate condemnation from GOP presidential candidates and state party leaders. “Kim Jong Un starves his own people,” Mr Trump’s former UN ambassador and 2024 opponent Nikki Haley said on Twitter. “It’s a total farce that North Korea has a leading role at the World Health Organisation.” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp wrote: “Taking our country back from Joe Biden does not start with congratulating North Korea’s murderous dictator.” Former GOP Maryland governor Larry Page also derided Mr Trump: “Kim Jong-un is an enemy of America who threatens peace and freedom. The fact that Trump delusionally believes otherwise makes him a useful idiot for China and unfit to be president.” Mr Trump famously enjoyed a warm relationship with Mr Kim during his one-term presidency, frequently praising the 39-year-old despot and becoming the first sitting US leader to visit the isolated communist country. He even bragged about exchanging “love letters” with Mr Kim, who frequently threatens the US and its allies with nuclear attack. Others pointed out the peculiarity of their relationship. “Donald Trump fangirling over a dictator like Kim Jong-un feels very on brand for a wannabe dictator like Trump,” one Twitter user posted. Dr Jong Min Pak this week became the first North Korean official to be appointed for a three-year term to the WHO’s executive board. “What this means is that one of the world’s most horrific regimes is now a part of a group that sets and enforces the standards and norms for the global governance of health care,” UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer said in a statement. “It is an absurd episode for a key UN agency that is in much need of self-reflection and reform.” Others to join the executive board are Australia, Barbados, Cameroon, Comoros, Lesotho, Qatar, Switzerland, Togo and Ukraine. Several recent appointments of serial human rights abusers to leadership roles in international organisations have also faced condemnation. Russia took charge of the United Nations Security Council in April, while Iran is chairing the UN Human Rights Council 2023 Social Forum. A couple who posted videos of themselves deliberately causing car crashes on YouTube and committed insurance ford have been jailed. Christopher and Kimberly Phelps from California uploaded videos on social media driving dangerously and claiming other drivers were responsible [via Dexerto]. They posted the videos on YouTube under the profile name “BLU3 GHO57”, and used it as leverage to pursue compensation from their insurance company. The videos typically received fewer than 100 views each, but there were around 62 dash cam videos posted on the channel of various collisions and dangerous near misses. An investigation was first launched after the California Department of Insurance uncovered the YouTube channel and discovered a video showing a “suspicious collision” which saw Christopher stop for no apparent reason before a crash. Christopher has been ordered to serve three years in jail. Kimberly was also sentenced to 90 days in weekend county jail and three years of supervised probation. When they were first arrested, the California Department of Insurance issued a statement saying: “Christopher Phelps has been charged with six felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, 11 felony counts of insurance fraud, and five felony counts of child endangerment. Kimberly Phelps has been charged with two counts of felony child endangerment and one count of felony insurance fraud. “Christopher Phelps was previously charged with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon and one felony count of causing a vehicle collision for the purpose of presenting a false claim following his arrest [earlier this year].” Have your say in our news democracy.
