Dude Perfect break world record for highest basketball shot
Dude Perfect break world record for highest basketball shot
The record for the highest basketball shot to be made has been absolutely annihilated by Dude Perfect in an unbelievable clip. Dude Perfect is a group known for its incredible trick shots and has recently added to its repertoire of stunning feats after making a basketball shot from 855 feet in the air. The stunt breaks the record for the World’s Highest Basketball Shot and was achieved from the top of The Strat – the tallest building on the Las Vegas Strip. The team was given three days to complete the challenge and took it right to the wire, making it on the third day of trying. With their successful shot made, it added close to 200 feet to the existing world record. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter A clip of the successful shot was shared on Twitter, while, in a longer video on their YouTube channel, the group explained how it was achieved. The team comprised Tyler Toney, twins Cory and Coby Cotton and Garrett Hilbert, who were assisted by a whole host of others, including chief creative officer, Ryan Britton. Britton helped design a 10,000-square-foot net system that would catch the basketballs and protect the rooftop. The first attempt missed the roof entirely, landing about 50 yards away and multiple more attempts missed the net by a large margin due to high winds. World's Highest Basketball Shot www.youtube.com On the second day of attempts, the team considered cancelling the challenge altogether over safety concerns but persevered until the seemingly-impossible challenge was completed on the third and final day. Ron DeSantis expected to launch 2024 presidential bid next week, reports say
Ron DeSantis expected to launch 2024 presidential bid next week, reports say
Ron DeSantis is reportedly preparing to announce his official campaign for 2024 president next week, after months of anticipation. Two people with knowledge of Mr DeSantis’ plans told The Wall Street Journal the Florida governor plans to file formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Thursday, 25 May. The filing date will correspond with a donor meeting in Miami, according to the report. The Independent has reached out to Mr DeSantis’ office for comment. Mr DeSantis, 44, was first considered a potential candidate for the GOP presidential nomination in 2021 when he emerged from the pandemic as a hard-line Republican. But after the midterm elections in November, when Mr DeSantis was re-elected Governor of Florida by a nearly 20 per cent margin, he began to be considered a possible frontrunner. As of recently, Mr DeSantis has seemingly secured his spot as a presidential contender - partially thanks to former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. Over the last several months, Mr Trump has launched attacks on Mr DeSantis- criticising his legislative record in Florida, downplaying his popularity with voters and comparing their polling numbers, despite Mr DeSantis having no official bid. When Mr DeSantis was asked recently about trailing behind the former president in polling, he responded, “I’m not a candidate so we’ll see if and when that changes.” The Florida governor has been coy about his possible presidential bid, giving vague answers to the press and re-directing attention to his current actions in Florida. But that hasn’t stopped the public, media and Mr Trump from assuming Mr DeSantis is running. If the reports about Mr DeSantis’ launch are true, he would be the sixth person to launch a campaign for Republican president. So far, Mr Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and conservative personality Larry Elder have announced their bid for president. On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden announced he would seek re-election, and two other candidates: lawyer and anti-vaccine activist Robert F Kennedy Jr as well as self-help author Marianne Williamson have launched campaigns. Francis Ngannou corrects Dana White’s false claim over heavyweight’s UFC exit
Francis Ngannou corrects Dana White’s false claim over heavyweight’s UFC exit
Francis Ngannou has corrected Dana White’s false claim that the heavyweight was released by the UFC, after White criticised Ngannou for signing with the PFL. Ngannou left the UFC at the end of his contract in January, relinquishing the heavyweight title before announcing last week that he had signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL). As part of Ngannou’s PFL deal, the Cameroonian will be able to box on the side, and his opponents will receive a guaranteed pay of $2million. Furthermore, Ngannou, 36, will serve as chairman of PFL Africa and have equity in the promotion. The “Predator” is expected to box this year and make his PFL debut in 2024. UFC president White said on Saturday that the deal “makes no sense to me” and that Ngannou “wants to take zero risks”. The American also referenced “the day that we released him”. Ngannou took exception to the 53-year-old’s comments, however. “What is your problem with me?” Ngannou tweeted on Sunday (21 May). “I completed my contract, was a free agent, and chose to walk away. You didn’t release me. “I hate taking risks? That’s why I defended my title to [fulfil] my contract with no acl or mcl? “I’m finally getting paid and respected, and have a deal that’s fair and equal for all parties. Why are you so against me being free and happy?” Ngannou also hit back at White’s claim that the Cameroonian had turned down fights in the UFC prior to his exit. “The reason I fought three times in three years is because you wanted to control my deal and [sign] a new one. And freeze me out,” Ngannou wrote. “‘I owe these guys three fights a year.’ Isn’t that what you say? What happened? I always asked for & never said no to any fight in the 3 years.” Ngannou most recently fought in January 2022, outpointing former teammate Ciryl Gane to retain the UFC heavyweight title with an injured knee. He later underwent treatment for the injury, before leaving the UFC this January. In March, UFC light-heavyweight icon Jon Jones won the vacant heavyweight title by submitting Gane in Round 1. Jones and Ngannou have long gone back and forth on Twitter and in the media, with White previously accusing Jones of avoiding a fight with Ngannou. On Saturday, however, the UFC president claimed the opposite, leading Ngannou to write: “If you ever really want that Jon Jones fight to happen, reach out to @PeteMurrayPFL. Whenever, wherever.” Ngannou also shared footage of White suggesting, after Ngannou had beaten Gane, that Jones had no desire to fight the Cameroonian.
