Couple discover get married after discovering that they are cousins
Anyone in a committed relationship is bound to find out unexpected things about their partner. Those things tend to include weird habits and phobias, not the fact that they’re blood-related to you. And yet, for one couple from Utah, this is precisely what happened half a year into their romance. In a video shared to TikTok by a user called Kenna, 20, captioned “shiz happens,” she revealed that she and her then-boyfriend found out that they were cousins after six months of dating. But rather than call things quits at that point, they got married a year later. Inevitably, the public admission prompted an outpouring of horrified comments from fellow TikTokers, with a number demanding a “storytime” about the situation. However, instead of offering clarity, Kenna simply posted another clip, this one showing her embracing and kissing her husband, and reinforcing the point that they were cousins. This time, she branded the situation: “Just Utah things”. @kennahags Just Utah things #cousinsdating #siblingsordating #siblinglove #family #marriedlife #cousinsmarriage #wedding #funny #couplescomedy #ick #awkward Commentators were quick to stress that incest is not a “Utah thing” but, rather, an illegal thing. Indeed, Utah is one of just 24 states in the US where marriage between first cousins is prohibited by law. But in 19 others, including New York and Florida, such marriages are entirely permitted. It’s perhaps worth noting that despite being from Utah originally, Kenna and her hubby now live in the Sunshine State. Still, it is also worth noting that Kenna hasn’t responded to questions about the degree to which she and her man are related. Since the commercialisation of DNA testing via ancestry sites, many of us have discovered that we have third, fourth and fifth cousins scattered across the globe. And, of course, gene pool-wise there’s a very big difference between a first cousin and a fifth cousin. Nevertheless, Kenna is obviously quite willing to let people believe that they are, indeed, closely related by broadcasting the eyebrow-raising disclosure. She also has proudly broadcast other controversial facts about their relationship, including that she is a stay-at-home wife who sunbathes by the pool while her husband/cousin works, and that they don’t follow members of the opposite sex on Instagram unless they’re family members. @kennahags Things my husband and I do that just make sense #CapCut #contriversialopinions #marriage #marriedlife #newlymarried #newlyweds #contriversialcontent #stayathomemom #stayathomewife #sahm She has also repeatedly stressed their desire to have children and, given that they’re both Mormons (as she revealed in an earlier video), they’re likely to want a fair few. This has prompted further concerned remarks from viewers given that they are, you, know, COUSINS. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Russian state hackers spread USB worm worldwide
Security researchers have discovered a USB propagating “worm” developed by state-backed Russian hackers to infect Ukrainian targets, which they warn is now spreading globally. The LitterDrifter worm automatically spreads malware via a hidden file within USB drives, with a victim’s data then transmitted back to the attackers. Cyber security firm Check Point Software described the malware as “a unique player in the Russian espionage ecosystem”, designed to collect data and spy on communications. The method of its distribution via removable USB drives means it is difficult to contain the worm to just the intended targets, according to the researchers. “Due to the nature of the USB worm, we see indications of possible infection in various countries like the US, Vietnam, Chile, Poland and Germany,” Check Point researchers wrote in a blog post detailing the threat. “In addition, we’ve observed evidence of infections in Hong Kong. All this might indicate that much like other USB worms, LitterDrifter have spread beyond its intended targets.” The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) said the campaign had been identified as originating from personnel within Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, the Ukrainian government has been under “near-constant digital attack”, according to Google’s Shane Huntley, who is a senior director at the tech giant’s threat analysis group. “Russian government-backed attackers have engaged in an aggressive, multi-pronged effort to gain a decisive wartime advantage in cyberspace, often with mixed results,” Mr Huntley wrote in a July post. Cyber attacks have also been perpetrated against Nato partners and Ukraine’s allies, witch such attacks increasing in 2023. Ukraine’s National Cybersecurity Coordination Center (NCSCC) recently revealed that Russian-backed hackers have been targeting European embassies. The latest discovery demonstrates how targeted attacks can easily spread globally when distributed in such a manner. “It leverages simple, yet effective techniques to ensure it can reach the widest possible set of targets in the region,” the Check Point researchers noted. “It’s clear that LitterDrifter was designed to support a large-scale collection operation.” Read More Tiny solar-powered van unveiled in Japan Democrats accuse Elon Musk and X of profiting from Hamas propaganda OpenAI reaches deal with Sam Altman to return as chief executive Tiny solar-powered van unveiled in Japan Democrats accuse Elon Musk and X of profiting from Hamas propaganda OpenAI reaches deal with Sam Altman to return as chief executive

Barnsley expelled from FA Cup after fielding ineligible player in Horsham replay
Barnsley have been expelled from the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player in their first-round replay against Horsham. Seventh-tier Horsham will now progress to round two, where they will visit League Two strugglers Sutton. The Tykes were 3-0 winners in last Tuesday’s replay, after the first game had finished 3-3 at Oakwell, but have since acknowledged a “regrettable”, “unintentional” error that has seen them kicked out of this season’s competition by the Football Association. A club statement read: “Today the FA has advised us that we will no longer be able to participate in the FA Cup this season. “An administrative error was brought to our attention regarding the eligibility of a player who played in last Tuesday’s game with Horsham FC. “The club has fully co-operated with the investigation and has accepted the FA’s decision. We have been in contact with Horsham FC and would like to thank the club and chairman for their understanding and co-operation throughout this process. “We would like to apologise to our fans, players and staff for this regrettable error. “This mistake – although unintentional – falls way below the high standards we set at this club and is simply not what you deserve. “We have already conducted a full internal investigation and have subsequently put safeguards in place to ensure this will never happen again.” The FA said Barnsley fielded a player in the replay who was not eligible for the first match, which is against the rules. Forward Aiden Marsh was on loan at National League York when the first game took place on November 3, before being recalled by parent club Barnsley on November 6 and playing 71 minutes of the replay on November 14. “A Professional Game Board sub-committee has removed Barnsley from the 2023-24 Emirates FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player during their first-round proper replay against Horsham on Tuesday 14 November 2023,” an FA statement read. “The FA alleged that the player was ineligible for this replay, as he was not correctly registered and eligible for the original first-round-proper match on Friday 3 November 2023, which constitutes a breach of FA Cup rule 103. “Barnsley admitted this charge and acknowledged that the breach had occurred. The sub-committee’s members ordered that Barnsley be removed from the competition, and that Horsham be awarded the tie and progression to the second round proper. “Subject to any appeal by Barnsley, Horsham will now play away to Sutton United in the Second Round Proper on Saturday 2 December 2023.” Read More Great Britain determined to ruin Novak Djokovic’s astonishing year at Davis Cup Everton have extra motivation following points deduction – director of football What happens next for Wales as they look to book a place at Euro 2024?
