Gen Z workers are quitting their jobs live on TikTok
Workers, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, are 'live-quitting' their jobs on TikTok under the hashtag #quittok. In the midst of 'the Great Resignation' - a term coined by organisational psychologist Anthony Klotz to capture the wave of employees leaving their jobs post-pandemic - has brought about various methods of people leaving their job, such as 'quiet quitting' which gained attention at the end of last year. Now a new method has entered the scene: live quitting. Users film or livestream themselves on the exact moment they quit. Whether it's in-person, over Zoom, or the moment they hit send on their resignation email. It seems many are seeking the support and comfort of up to millions of strangers online as they end one chapter and start another. The hashtag #quittok currently has over 50 million views showing many are resonating with the content. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter One user Darby posted a video in February of them on a call with their manager quitting their job. She joins a call with her manager saying: "I can't say it, I don't know how to say it," as you puts her face in her hands. Her boss sayings "I know, I knew it was coming when you that." "If it's what you feel like you need to do then I totally get it," her manager adds. "We will be so sad and we'll miss you." "I'm like, my heart is racing, I don't know why I'm so... it's be so like hard to figure out what to do but I think... I know I need to do it." Darby says, before the video ends. @durbinmalonster Quitting my corporate stable job that I love in this economy??? Y’all should have seen my dads face when I told him hahaha. Her TikTok currently has over 1 million likes, and viewers commented both Darby and her manager. "This manager is manager goals!!! Her support of you is huge!" Commented one user. Many others left Darby good luck wishes as she starts a new chapter. And Darby isn't the only one to document the moment of quitting. Another user, known as Stove, filmed and uploaded a TikTok of him quitting his job to TikTok last year. His manager calls him after Stove asked if "he had a few minutes to check in." @omgitsstovelol Live footage of me quitting one of the worst most demoralizing jobs I’ve ever had. Please excuse the fake laughter. #iquit #youwontbreakmysoul #quitting #corporatelife #corporatetiktok #onwardandupward #careermoves As users watch the video of Stove quitting his job, it is accompanied by captions documenting his thought process, at one point, before announcing he's quitting, he laughs, the caption reads "feverous laughter.... What do I say?????" The next caption reads "just rip off the band aid", to which Stove proceeds to let his manager know he is taking a new position at a new company next month. Colleen Ballinger AKA Miranda Sings addresses allegations with bizarre ukulele song
Colleen Ballinger (also known as Miranda Sings) has denied swirling allegations against her by releasing a 10-minute video of her playing the ukulele. "A lot of people are saying some things about me that aren’t quite true. Doesn’t matter if it’s true, though, just as long as it’s entertaining to you, right?", she sings in the video titled 'Hi.' Ballinger was accused of forming inappropriate relationships with fans. "Many years ago, I used to message my fans but not in a creepy way, like a lot of you are trying to suggest. It was more of a loser kind of way, where I was just trying to be besties with everybody", she continued singing. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter

Susan: Tory London mayoral candidate has been reduced to a meme
Susan: Tory London mayoral candidate has been reduced to a meme
A London mayoral candidate has launched her campaign in earnest - and has become a complete meme by doing so. Susan Hall wants to be selected as the Tory candidate for the mayoral race, and is appealing to voters to choose her with some hastily made graphics. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The graphic shows a photo of her against a blue background. Dramatic text alongside it reads "Susan." It adds: "The one Sadiq Khan fears," as well as "you are safer with Susan". But rather than run to cast their votes for "Susan", people found it hilarious: Hall has been a London Assembly member for five years. Her policies include reversing the ULEZ expansion, dealing with the housing crisis and cracking down on crime. Indeed, she said she will "hunt down and lock up" muggers and burglars by creating a special team within the Met tasked with tackling them. She is also known for trolling Gemma Collins, when she appeared on I'm A Celebrity in 2014. “OMG this fat woman Gemma is ghastly, really ghastly,” Hall tweeted, “however watching her squeal may be funny”. She also called Collins a “stupid fat blonde woman”. The Tory mayoral candidate for London is expected to be announced on 19 July, with the London mayoral election taking place on 2 May 2024. Being ridiculed while trying to reach high office - it is just part and parcel of British politics. Nevertheless, indy100 has contacted Hall to see how she feels about it. Glastonbury festival-goers use data equivalent to 400 HD film downloads an hour
Glastonbury festival-goers used data equivalent to downloading the Rocket Man film in HD 400 times an hour for the entire five-day event, Vodafone has revealed. The festival’s “official connectivity partner” said 169 terabytes of data were consumed during the festival. The firm placed nine masts around the Worthy Farm site to cope with demand. Figures show 450 gigabytes of data were uploaded during Sir Elton John’s Sunday headline performance on the main Pyramid Stage. Over the course of the five-day event, some 20 terabytes of data were consumed at the biggest stage as the audience uploaded videos and pictures to social media. The Glastonbury app was downloaded 208,000 times, with more than 130,729 people using the “My Line-Up” feature, giving attendees reminders to get to pre-selected performances on time. Some 10,500 charging packs were sold through the event’s battery exchange scheme. Max Taylor, Vodafone’s UK chief commercial officer, said: “We are incredibly proud of our network team who boosted the network to its highest ever capacity in our first year as Official Connectivity Partner to Glastonbury. “We wanted to make sure that as many fans as possible could benefit from our reliable, award-winning network on site and we over-delivered on this promise. We can’t wait to bring even bigger and better things to Glastonbury next year.”
