Celtic fans defied a club appeal and waved Palestinian flags before Wednesday’s Champions League fixture. The Green Brigade, a supporter group which occupies the north curve of Celtic Park, traditionally organise a tifo - a choreographed display involving a large banner - for major games. But as the teams emerged from the tunnel for their Group E match against Atletico Madrid, they instead held up Palestinian flags. Celtic have already banned the group from away games after they displayed the flags at recent matches in the wake of the attacks in Israel and Gaza. It is expected the Scottish club will now receive a fine from Uefa. Football legend Gerard Pique fell down a hole and disappeared from view following a presentation for his seven-a-side tournament this week. The former Barcelona star was going over to sign a shirt for a fan during the launch of his Kings League Americas competition but instead slipped off stage. He appeared to be listening to a voice note on his phone as he fell. It is understood that he managed to escape uninjured from the incident. Manchester United paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of kick-off against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night (24 October). Erik ten Hag laid flowers in the centre circle at Old Trafford before both teams and fans observed a minute’s silence. Outside the stadium, fans paid tributes of their own, with flowers and scarves placed on the United Trinity statue, which features Charlton alongside George Best and Denis Law. The England World Cup winner, who also captained United to their first-ever European Cup win in 1968, passed away over the weekend. He was 86.

Aftermath of Russian missile strike on Ukraine mail depot that killed six in Kharkiv
Six people died in a missile strike late on Saturday night (21 October) on a mail depot in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. Another 14 people were injured in the blast, which is believed to have been caused by a Russian S-300 rocket, Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov said on social media. All of the victims were employees of private Ukrainian postal and courier Nova Poshta. In a statement, the company said that the air raid siren had sounded just moments before the attack, leaving those inside the depot with no time to reach shelter.
