Only the most observant people can figure out the difference between these triangles
Only the most observant people can figure out the difference between these triangles
These two triangles are both made up of four coloured shapes. But in the second triangle there is a missing square This gif confuses things even more So how does the missing square puzzle work? The missing square comes about because the slopes on the two triangles are not actually straight In fact, the shape of the puzzle is not even technically a triangle - it's a quadrilateral - because the "hypotenuse" (the longest side of the "triangle") is bent. As Brightside explains: "In reality, this is not an optical illusion, but a really interesting task. The areas of the colored pieces are of course equal (32 cells), but even if both figures look like triangles of 13×5, it isn’t so. In fact, they have different areas (S 13×5 = 32.5 cells). So the mystery of the puzzle is that the first figure called a triangle is, in fact, a concave quadrangle." This picture of the red and blue triangles helps to highlight the illusion. As does this gif from the Russian website Novate:

Mum furious after daughter is rejected from school choir - but no-one takes her side
Mum furious after daughter is rejected from school choir - but no-one takes her side
A mother was left fuming after her daughter was rejected for her school choir. Writing on Mumsnet, the mother said the choir was "harsh" and that children should be allowed to participate regardless of their ability. She explained her daughter told her she was "sad about how she is a bad singer and she doesn't want to see her music teacher as she is too embarrassed" after an unsuccessful audition with the choir. "I do think rejecting a year 7 into something they are interested in trying is harsh, especially when it's hard enough for year 7s," she added. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter "When kids are all singing in a group they do sound the same anyway! Obviously maybe solos could be kept for the particularly talented but I'm honestly just a bit sad and even annoyed," she said. But responding in the comments, people didn't exactly sympathise with the mother. "Auditions are to pick the best singers," one said. "Sorry but it's a life lesson. She can't be good at everything." Another wrote: "Rejection is a part of life, and it's a very valuable lesson. We can't always get what we want because we want it. "This is when we learn to accept defeat or decide to try again. Your daughter could take vocal lessons or practice on her own until auditions come around again." And a third said: "Of course you can’t be in a choir if you can’t sing." Mumsnet mums can be pretty blunt... Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

Eurovision fans think Belgium’s entry looks a lot like Boy George
Eurovision fans think Belgium’s entry looks a lot like Boy George
Do not adjust your sets, Boy George is not representing Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest this year – despite their entry Gustaph sporting a similar pointy hat during their second semi-final performance in Liverpool on Thursday. Called “Because Of You”, the soulful club banger and fan favourite was performed by the singer (real name Stef Caers) while sporting a fabulous, wide-brimmed white hat, white suit and pink shirt. And while indy100 writer Harry Fletcher ranked it second-best out of the songs on offer during Saturday’s grand final as a “belting call to the dancefloor with serious oomph”, Twitter can’t help but compare Gustaph’s outfit – specifically his choice of hat – to another high-profile musician. Boy George. Yep, the Culture Club frontman (who’s known as George O’Dowd away from the spotlight) and former I’m A Celebrity contestant’s name has been mentioned as a result of both singers having a love of a good hat. On this note, we regret to inform you that this year’s Eurovision isn’t sponsored by Specsavers. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Nevertheless, Boy George was trending on Twitter with some calling Gustaph the ‘Belgian’ equivalent: Whether or not the comparison helped Belgium get through to the grand final, we’ll never know, but he joins fellow semi-final two qualifiers Austria, Australia and Poland in performing at the main event on Saturday. Gustaph hasn’t addressed the Boy George comments on social media, instead thanking fans for voting him through, and the “Karma Chameleon” singer hasn’t mentioned it either. Instead, over on Instagram he shared a video compilation of people dancing, with one animated clip depicting billionaires Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos putting on a DJ set. Eurovision viewers left asking ‘who the hell is Edgar’ after Austria’s catchy entry
Eurovision viewers left asking ‘who the hell is Edgar’ after Austria’s catchy entry
Let’s be honest: none of us saw a song about being possessed by the ghost of writer Edgar Allan Poe coming at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but we’re all here for it. In Austria’s entry for the competition – taking place in Liverpool on behalf of last year’s winners, Ukraine – singers Teya and Salena ask “Who the Hell is Edgar?”, and that’s a blooming good question. The answer? Edgar Allan Poe… poe, poe, poe, poe, poe… Yes, that is the chorus, and yes, it is that catchy. So aside from being supposedly possessed by Poe, what prompted the duo to write about the American writer, who died all the way back in 1849? According to the lyrics, the singer is “happy” to be taken over by Poe because the song is “feeling special” and will “make me rich”. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter However, arguably the more interesting lines come later in the track, when Teya and Salena reference the figure “0.003” – the amount of money music streaming giant Spotify pays artists after a single stream of a song. The lyrics continue: “Give me two years, and your dinner will be free / Gas station champagne is on me / Edgar cannot pay rent for me. “Zero, dot, zero, zero, three / At least it pays to be funny / Ugh.” So yes, “Who the Hell is Edgar” does appear to actually be about the poor treatment of artists in the music industry. We love to see it – and so do other Eurovision fans: However, Austria’s chances of winning the contest may be scuppered now, after it was revealed on Friday that they would be first up to perform in Saturday’s Grand Final. According to an online article from the Eurovision Song Contest itself back in 2019, at the time, only three songs in the competition’s history won after performing first. Out of 67 winners, just over 34 per cent came from the first half of the show, so it doesn’t look that good for them. Elsewhere, though, there is some good news for Luxembourg, as it’s been announced the country will return to compete in the show from next year – ending a 30-year hiatus after they were relegated in 1993. Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner have become an instant 'mansplaining' meme
Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner have become an instant 'mansplaining' meme
The celebrity world loves nothing more than when two famous good-looking people get together and create a new power couple. Whereas the internet loves nothing more when that famous couple becomes an instant meme. This year we've already had Taylor Swift and Matty Healy memes as well as Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner memes. Well, now Kylie's sister, Kendall Jenner has been given the meme treatment thanks to her new squeeze, Puerta Rican rapper Bad Bunny. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The pair were at Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals between the LA Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in Los Angeles on Friday and a moment between caught the internet's imagination. As Bad Bunny leaned over to tell Kendall something the model and reality TV star did her best to listen. Although it's unlikely we'll ever know what the two said to each other it turned into a new spin on the classic mansplaining meme. The meme soon found it's way onto wrestling Twitter with many making reference to Bad Bunny's recent match (yes, he actually wrestles now) against Damien Priest at WWE Backlash. Even more obscure takes were available. Incidentally, Bad Bunny, 29, has proven himself to be pretty adept at the wrestling game having impressed since his debut at WrestleMania 37 in 2021 and even competed in last year's Royal Rumble match. No word on if Kendall will soon be involved in WWE but time will tell. Have your say in our news democracy. YouTuber who intentionally crashed a plane now facing 20 years in jail
A YouTuber and pilot who crashed his aircraft intentionally could face up to 20 years in jail. Trevor Jacob filmed himself on November 24 and posted it in December 2022, claiming that he was forced to jump from the craft. He was flying over California’s Los Padres national forest in a 1940 Taylorcraft BL-65, when he parachuted out of it and left it to crash. The 29-year-old previously lost his pilot’s licence. He has now pleaded guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation, a crime that "carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “In the weeks following the plane crash, Jacob lied to investigators that he did not know the wreckage’s location, according to the plea agreement. In fact, on December 10, 2021, Jacob and a friend flew by helicopter to the wreckage site. There, Jacob used straps to secure the wreckage, which the helicopter lifted and carried to Rancho Sisquoc in Santa Barbara County, where it was loaded onto a trailer attached to Jacob’s pickup truck,” federal prosecutors said in a press release. I Crashed My Airplane www.youtube.com The prosecutors added: “Jacob further admitted he lied to federal investigators when he submitted an aircraft accident incident report that falsely indicated that the aircraft experienced a full loss of power approximately 35 minutes after takeoff. "Jacob also lied to an FAA aviation safety inspector when he said the airplane’s engine had quit and, because he could not identify any safe landing options, he had parachuted out of the plane.” Last year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it had revoked his licence. The administration said in an official letter: “On November 24, 2021, you demonstrated a lack of care, judgment, and responsibility by choosing to jump out of an aircraft solely so you could record the footage of the crash.” Have your say in our news democracy. Couple told they 'go to prison' after licking ice cream in store and putting it back
A couple has been slammed for opening up a tub of ice cream in a supermarket and licking it before putting it back in the freezer. The grotesque incident appeared to be part of an unwelcome online trend that first appeared in 2019 and saw others filming themselves licking ice cream in shops and putting it back on freezer shelves for someone to later buy. A recent video shared on TikTok has resulted in the influencer Tequan Hines, and his girlfriend, Asia, on the sharp end of some significant backlash. In the clip, they could be seen opening and taking turns to lick a tub of Blue Bunny ice cream before returning it to the freezer. The video, which included their other social media handles, has since been deleted by Hines, but not before it had been screen recorded and reposted by other TikTok users. A video about the incident made by TikToker Noah Glen Carter has been viewed over 2.6 million times and provides a bit of an update on what happened next. 'Kendall Jenner on steroids' earns thousands from OnlyFans arm wrestling videos
A female bodybuilder, who some have called "Kendall Jenner on steroids", has opened up about her five-figure-a-month salary on OnlyFans. Model Vladislava Galagan started training 11 years ago, before competing in bodybuilding competitions in 2018. The 27-year-old soon developed a social media following with her frequent training videos and model shots. This prompted her to set up an OnlyFans account, with fans likening her to Kendall Jenner. "I sell this image of being good-looking and muscular and combine it and with a little erotic," she said, adding that she also uploads arm wrestling videos. "When I joined social media, I learnt there are so many men who like tall, strong muscular women with a nice face too." She added: "I am constantly told I look like 'Kendall Jenner on steroids'. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Vladislava has adhered to a strict diet and workout routine since she began competing in bodybuilding competitions over a decade ago. She goes to the gym at least six times per week - working out for around an hour and a half each time - and eats a protein-heavy diet. She eats four meals a day to make sure she eats over 100g of protein - favouring protein-rich foods such as beef, eggs, turkey, chicken and fish. She also takes performance-enhancing drugs to help maximise her efforts - but says there's no "magic pill" and it must be coupled with a consistent diet and training. She visits the gym six days a week and trains each muscle group twice a week as well as having three cardio sessions a week. In 2016, Vladislava opened an Instagram account and began sharing her gym progress pictures. She also began doing fitness modelling - and due to her toned physique she fed into a particular "fetish around muscly women". As well as contributing to a platform called 'Her Biceps' - specifically for female bodybuilders - she set up an OnlyFans and Patreon for people to subscribe to her exclusive content. She said: "I'm muscular and good-looking, it sells really well. "So many people think it's CGI or photoshop, but it's not. "I wear see-through lingerie, leather and latex, but I don’t do anything explicit - I just imply. "I also do arm wrestling videos - people like those." As her subscription platforms and her social media grew, there was one particular recurring comment. She said she is told daily that she looks like a muscly version of Kendall Jenner. On TikTok, examples include one user who commented "@kendalljenner got f***ing jacked" while another said "she's like a buff Kendall.... I'm all for it." A third commented: "Face of Kendall Jenner, body of Chris Evans [from Captain America]." She said she receives these comments daily - although she doesn't personally agree. She said: "I don't really know how they see it. I guess there are some similarities. "It's not how I brand myself, but they like a mix of my face and my body." Thanks to "hitting the sweet spot" by combining looks and physique, she takes home five-figure paychecks each month from her OnlyFans and Patreon. She added: "I feel like I won the lottery."
