Dad lashes out after discovering his wife lied about their child’s gender
A dad-to-be has admitted to flying off the rails when he discovered his wife had lied about the sex of their unborn child. The 32-year-old wrote about the confrontation on Reddit, admitting that he’d “reacted in ways [he’s] now questioning.” The man explained that he was away on an “essential business trip” during his partner’s first pregnancy appointments and so she attended them with her adopted mother. “Upon my return, she excitedly told me we were having a boy,” he recounted. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter He said the couple "invested emotionally and financially" in the projected image of their baby: creating a blue nursery, buying "boy-themed items", and "even naming him after my late grandfather". However, he continued: “A chance remark from her mother disclosed we're having a girl. “My wife admitted she knew from the beginning but didn't tell me, thinking she was protecting my feelings.” The Redditor revealed that he had suffered a “tumultuous” childhood and that, growing up, he had “always craved a strong male figure in my life”. “I never had that bond with my father and always envisioned having it with a son,” he explained, adding: “My wife was aware of this deep-rooted desire.” Upon learning the truth, he admitted that he felt “devastated”, saying that it brought up “the weight of past hurts and fresh betrayals”. “In my pain, I cleared out the nursery and, in a moment I regret, told her mother she wasn't welcome at upcoming family events, seeing her as part of the deceit,” he confessed. Ending his post, he said: “I acted out of deep-seated emotions and past traumas. I love my wife and regret my reactions, but I feel lost.” The original poster (OP) then asked members of the AITA subreddit whether he should be condemned for his actions, prompting more than 6,400 comments in just three days. “The way OP is acting about having a daughter comes across like he's going to have the same kind of relationship with her that he had with his own father,” one fellow Redditor wrote. “Little girls need their daddy to be their first male role model too.” Another agreed, saying: “The fact that men are often disappointed by our very existence as woman, even in utero, continues to highlight society's s***ty view of woman [sic].” She added: “Sorry we exist? Sorry you think you can’t live out your field of dreams fantasies with us? [...] It’s actually you that doesn’t want to include us due to archaic gender roles.” A vast number insisted that both husband and wife were in the wrong, with one saying: “I cannot imagine why she thought it would be less painful for you to think you were having a boy and then disappoint you later. Getting your hopes up accomplishes nothing.” “That said,” they continued: “You very much did overreact in clearing out the nursery and disinviting her mother from coming over. “This reaction is crazy and you talking about this pain and devastation surrounding having a girl is probably the reason she was afraid to tell you. Because she probably wants to be excited about this child and didn’t want to deal with you acting like it’s something devastating that it’s a girl.” They went on: “Also, you are projecting wayyyy too much on an unborn child. What if you did have a boy, but he wasn’t as interested in this intense father-son relationship that you are craving? Can any real-life father-son relationship actually even live up to the one in your head that is supposed to heal your past wounds?” Concluding their lengthy response, they added: “Your kids are real people, don’t set them up for failure by having all these weird expectations for how they will better your existing traumas.” Meanwhile, another commentator offered a more succinct summary of the whole thing: “I’m not sure what [the mother] expected to happen at the birth,” they said. “But I totally get why she lied.” Still, some Redditors were more forgiving of the heartbroken dad, with one writing: "I think OP is mainly upset that [his] wife lied, not necessarily that it's a girl. He's had no chance to even get his head around that." Have your say in our news democracy. Click the upvote icon at the top of the page to help raise this article through the indy100 rankings.

Bride demands full refund after wedding photographer sleeps with her husband
A bride has requested a full refund after she discovered that her husband had slept with their wedding photographer. The heartbroken woman demanded her money back, saying that her man had bedded the 20-year-old snapper who he met at their big day. In a painful slap of cruel irony, she even had photographic evidence to prove the affair. However, her reimbursement request wasn’t lodged with the offending 20-year-old, but with another photographer – the man who hired her for the occasion. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The professional, who calls himself Wedding Dude, explained his predicament in a Reddit post, writing: “Earlier this summer I shot a wedding. My typical second shooter couldn’t make it, so I found someone else online who I felt did good work. “Anyways her [sic] and I did the wedding, and everything seemed business as usual. Photos were edited, delivered to client, all was good.” However, he continued: “Then this morning I got an email from the bride. She was wanting a refund because the lady I had hired as second shooter for the day ended up sleeping with her husband at some point after the wedding, and she also included photos from his phone to prove it.” Addressing his community on the Wedding Photography sub-Reddit, he then asked: “I haven't responded yet, but what's the best thing to do here? “She hired me for a job and the job was completed and product was delivered. But I also feel like this would be as if I were a professional dog walker who walked a client's dog, then came back and shot it later.” But, he pointed out: “Of course the second shooter is considered a private contractor and not an employee....” Wrapping up his story, he asked: “What is the best thing to do here? I really feel for this lady, but that's also a lot of money to have to give back for work that was done.” Fellow Redditors were quick to support Wedding Dude, insisting he shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s mistakes. “This sounds harsh, but her husband was going to cheat on her regardless of who your second shooter was. It’s not your fault that she married him,” one wrote. “Tell them you are sorry to hear that but there isn’t a way for you to refund for a service that has been completed per your contract,” recommended another, advising him to reply: “I cannot refund you because something unfortunate happened that I had no control over,” they added. Another penned a passionate defence of photographers’ rights as service providers, writing: “How about you had been the bartender... ‘Hey bartender, my husband got drunk with your booze and cheated on me, give me a refund!’ Lol no, they wouldn't even ask. It doesn't happen with other vendors. “Clients keep asking for unreasonable refunds to photographers because we keep enabling that behaviour. Job completed and delivered. You can't take out the eggs after the cake was baked.” Agreeing, another added: “We are human, and can feel remorse for others, but we are also a business. Unless there were serious issues with the work or deliverables, no person in their right mind would expect to get their money back. “If she wants a refund for a wedding service, she can sue her ex-husband. This is an open and shut no.” However, another Redditor was quick to refute their recommendations, writing: “I don't know what the people here are talking about, I would refund her fully. If she shares this story all over the place, online, reviews, podcasts, it is YOUR name on the photography contract.” They went on: “I would say, ‘I am totally sorry this happened, I had no idea. Even though I did my job properly I am going to refund you just because of the situation and I feel for you. Please also sign this NDA that you agree not to leave me a bad review of anything because of this person’. At the end of the day hiring people, especially that you don't know, its all on you.” They continued: “I have refunded weddings for less than this because reputation is everything and its just not worth it, before adding: “Also don't hire randoms from the internet.” Another endorsed this as the “smartest answer here,” stressing: “Your name is your most valuable asset. Why deliberately destroy it over a point of principle?” And a third commented: “Imagine that story being the second Google result for your business. Honesty, not worth the risk. Sometimes, through no fault of our own, we have to pay for problems to go away.” Meanwhile, others offered more jokey recommendations as to how he should respond, with one suggesting: “Offer her a discount on her next wedding.” Asked what the 20-year-old had to say when Wedding Dude confronted her about the matter, he said: “She denied it, then claimed he said he was in an open relationship.” He then offered more details on the photos the wife had sent him saying they were “pornographic in nature” and appeared to have been taken in a hotel room. One user asked if the tryst had begun “on the clock” to which he replied: “Not sure if any affair happened on the clock but he certainly established a relationship of sorts then. All the photos are from after the wedding.” It’s not clear whether he now plans to refund the devastated bride or not. Good luck to them both, we say. Have your say in our news democracy. Tiffany Gomas says calling her 'crazy plane lady' is warranted in tearful apology video
Tiffany Gomas has spoken on camera for the first time since her 'not real' plane rant went viral earlier this year turning her into an unlikely online sensation. Speaking to TMZ, Gomas has appeared on camera for the first time since she was filmed ranting on an American Airlines flight earlier this year. Last week Gomas, a marketing executive from Texas was identified as the woman from the now infamous video where she demanded to be let off of the plane claiming "that motherf**ker back there is not real." Footage has since emerged of what supposedly caused the incident while Gomas also broke her silence teling the Daily Mail "so much of what's out there is inaccurate." Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Now in a video for TMZ Gomas has given a more thorough apology to everyone that was onboard the flight that day and also declared that she has enjoyed a lot of the memes about her. In the 2-minute video she says that it is completely warranted that she is being called the "crazy plane lady." She adds: "As you know I have been unwilling to speak on the viral video but I do now feel that it is time. First and foremost I want to take full accountability for my actions. They were completely unacceptable. "Stressed or not, I should have been in control of my emotions and that was not the case. My use of profanity was completely unnecessary and I want to apologise to everyone on that plane especially those that had children onboard. Can't imagine going through that and trying to explain to your kid what in the world just happened. "We all have our bad moments, some far worst than others and mine happened to be caught on camera for the whole world to see multiple times." The video takes a lighter tone as she apologises for trying not to sound like Minnie Mouse adding that it has "been comical for everyone and I have enjoyed so many of the memes." She also calls the interest in her life "invasive and unkind." Gomas continues by saying that she hopes to use this experience to "do a little good in the world" and that her apology is accepted. The video ends on a message inviting people to join Gomas on her 'journey of promoting mental health and standing up against cyberbullying.' She has also launched her own website which still appears to be under construction. Have your say in our news democracy. Family discover live frog in 'triple-washed' spinach packet
Kermit the Frog has always told us it’s not easy being green. But sometimes it’s not easy eating greens either. At least, that is, not for one Michigan family, who made a shocking discovery when unpacking their weekly shop. Amber Worrick told Fox 2 that her daughter screamed when she picked up the box of Earthbound Farms Organic Spinach only to find that there was a stowaway inside. “My daughter was screaming, she was like ‘Oh my God, it’s a frog,” Worrick said. “And I was like, ‘What?’” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The amphibian, which turned out to be a California native Pacific tree frog, was camouflaged among the leaves and still very much alive. Worrick explained to the local news outlet that she hadn’t noticed anything unusual when she picked up the veg at a local supermarket. “I didn’t see anything,” she insisted, adding that it “didn’t feel heavy” and she “didn’t feel anything wiggling.” Naturally, she went back to the Meijir supermarket, in the town of Southfield, to return the goods, bringing the tiny intruder along with her. Representatives for the shop told Fox 2 that the frog had been relocated to a new home outside by their team members, and that it was “alive and well”. Worrick seems to have been pleased at this result, telling the outlet: "I didn't want [the frog] to die, but I didn't want him in my food.” The spinach brand’s parent company, Taylor Farms, reportedly sent a statement apologising for the unusual mishap and vowing to work hard to prevent similar occurrences in future. Worrick was somewhat critical of them, however, saying of her purchase: "On the package, it says three times washed, or something like triple washed. I don't believe that it was washed or else they would have caught a whole live frog." Still, she conceded: “Thank God I didn’t eat [it]”. Have your say in our news democracy.
