1. Erling Haaland — Premier League 2022-23 — 36 goals
Erling Haaland joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 when the Norweigan seemed to have the pick of all the top European teams. He, alongside Kylian Mbappe, had become the successors to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who are now ending their careers in MLS and the Saudi Pro League respectively.
His City career did not actually get off to the best of starts as he missed some good chances in a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Community Shield. Darwin Nunez who was Jurgen Klopp's answer to Haaland in the transfer window did get on the scoresheet. However, it was not a sign of events to come.
In his Premier League debut, Haaland scored a brace in a 2-0 victory against West Ham United at the London Stadium. He then could not stop scoring and managed four hat-tricks across the season against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He missed just two Premier League games because of injury and was left on the bench for their final league game of the season against Brentford as Pep Guardiola was resting him for the FA Cup and Champions League finals. City won both competitions along with the Premier League title in an unforgettable treble-winning season.
2. Andy Cole — Premier League 1993-94 — 34 goals
Andy Cole is second on the list with 34 goals but what makes Erling Haaland's record look even more impressive is that Cole was playing when there were 22 teams in the Premier League. The division reduced its contingent to 20 teams after the 1994-95 season.
After helping Newcastle gain promotion to the Premier League, Cole enjoyed this prolific goal-scoring season. He netted two hat-tricks along the way against Liverpool and Coventry City. The Magpies finished third that season and Cole was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
Cole played for Newcastle for just the first half of the following season, before being sold to Manchester United for £7 million.
3. Alan Shearer — Premier League 1994-95 — 34 goals
Alan Shearer equaled Andy Cole's then-Premier League record by also scoring 34 goals the season after. Shearer is most associated with Newcastle United as that is the club that he made over 300 Premier League appearances for. However, during the 1994-95 season, the English forward was playing for Blackburn Rovers.
Heading into the season, Shearer had the summer off as England had failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup which was held in the USA. Blackburn were also boosted by the arrival of Chris Sutton from Norwich City for £5 million. This was when the club were spending big under the ownership of Jack Walker.
Shearer scored three hat-tricks in this record-breaking season against Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and Ipswich Town. Alongside, Shearer's exploits, Sutton also managed 15 goals as Blackburn won their one and only Premier League title.
The league went down to the final day of the season and despite Blackburn losing 2-1 to Liverpool. Manchester United could only draw with West Ham which handed the title to Blackburn.
4. Mohamed Salah — Premier League 2017-18 — 32 goals
Mohamed Salah had previously played in the Premier League with Chelsea but after a spell with AS Roma, the Egyptian returned to English soccer with Liverpool.
Salah secured the Premier League Golden Boot with impressive form that included scoring four goals in one game against Watford. Liverpool ended the season by finishing in fourth place and they also made it to the Champions League final.
However, Salah was injured by Sergio Ramos in the final against Real Madrid. Liverpool went on to lose 3-1 with Gareth Bale scoring a brace.
Salah would go on to win both the Champions League and the Premier League with Liverpool and he is still at the club. However, he was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer and that is expected to be his next destination.
5. Luis Suarez — Premier League 2013-14 — 31 goals
The second Liverpool player to make this list is Luis Suarez who was linked with a move to Arsenal ahead of the 2013-14 campaign. Ultimately the Uruguayan stayed and remarkably achieved his 31 goals despite missing the first five Premier League games of the season through a suspension for biting Branislav Ivanovic in a match against Chelsea.
Once Suarez had served his ban, he was in prolific form for Liverpool. He scored two hat-tricks against West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City. He even managed to score four in one match against Norwich City.
Much of his form was down to his partnership with Daniel Sturrudge which was nicknamed SAS for Suarez and Sturridge. Liverpool had looked set to win the Premier League that season but for a defeat against Chelsea and then a draw with Crystal Palace saw them slip up and Manchester City claimed the title.
Following this season was the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where Suarez was given another ban, this time for biting Italian defender Giorgio Cheillini. Suarez did not play for Liverpool again and was sold to Barcelona. He is still playing now for Brazilian side Gremio.
6. Cristiano Ronaldo — Premier League 2007-08 — 31 goals
During Cristiano Ronaldo's first spell at Old Trafford, the Manchester United player scored 31 goals during the 2007-08 Premier League campaign. He did not start the season well as he was sent off in United's second game of the season against Portsmouth. Ronaldo was given a three-match ban but finally scored his first goal at the end of September against Birmingham City.
Once the Portuguese forward was underway, there was no stopping him and he even scored a hat-trick in a 6-0 victory over Newcastle United.
The Red Devils won the league that year and Ronaldo played for the club for just one more season before departing for Real Madrid. Ronaldo would return to United in 2021 but his second spell at the club would not end well with him moving to the Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
7. Alan Shearer — Premier League 1993-94 — 31 goals
Alan Shearer appears on the list for a second time for his exploits during the 1993-94 Premier League season where he scored 31 goals as Blackburn Rovers finished runners-up to Manchester United.
Blackburn would gain revenge the following season in what was to be Shearer's only league triumph. Shearer currently works as a pundit on the BBC highlights show Match of the Day alongisde Gary Linker.
8. Alan Shearer — Premier League 1995-96 — 31 goals
There is a lot of Alan Shearer on this list and understandably so, given that he is the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer with 260 goals. Harry Kane is 47 goals behind him but Shearer's record should be safe with the current England captain now playing in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
If Erling Haaland keeps his goalscoring form up and stays with Manchester City for most of his career then he will definitely have a chance of breaking Shearer's record.
The 1995-96 season was to be Shearer's last with Blackburn Rovers before he turned down a move to Manchester United to join the club he supported, Newcastle United. His final campaign with Blackburn was still very impressive with 31 goals in a division that had now been reduced to 20 teams.
Following this season, Shearer starred for England at Euro 96 where he scored five goals as his side made it to the semifinals.
9. Harry Kane — Premier League 2022-23 — 30 goals
Harry Kane's 30 goals last season would have got more attention had it not been for Erling Haaland scoring six more to break the record in a single Premier League campaign. Kane was also playing for Tottenham Hotspur at the time and you can only imagine how many he could have scored if he was not playing for a side that ended up finishing eighth in the league.
However, Kane's form did earn him a move to Bayern Munich where he has already enjoyed a great start to life in the Bundesliga. The England captain may not have won any silverware with Spurs but he is destined to get his hands on trophies with Bayern.
The 2022--23 season was a strange one as it was the first to have a World Cup in the middle of it. This was due to the high temperatures in Qatar where the tournament was being held. Kane did score twice in the competition but missed a crucial penalty in England's quarter-final defeat to France.
Despite this costly miss, Kane did not let this affect his form for Spurs when he returned from international duty.
10. Harry Kane — Premier League 2017/18 — 30 goals
Before last season, Harry Kane had managed 30 goals in a single Premier League season during the 2017-18 campaign. Kane scored back-to-back hat-tricks in this campaign against Burnley and then Southampton.
Tottenham Hotspur finished the season in fourth place which qualified them for the Champions League. They would go on to reach the final of this tournament the following season but would lose to Liverpool.
The 2018 World Cup followed this campaign and England made it to the semifinals where they lost to Croatia. Kane did score six goals along the way, which included a hat-trick against Panama and he would take home the Golden Boot from the tournament.
11. Robin van Persie — Premier League 2011-12 — 30 goals
In Robin van Persie's final season with Arsenal, the striker scored 30 goals as Arsenal finished third in the Premier League. The Dutchman was enjoying his new role as club captain after Cesc Fabregas left the club to join Barcelona.
Van Persie scored two hat-tricks during this campaign against Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers. Despite being with the Gunners for eight years, the player had only won just one FA Cup. Van Persie would leave the club at the end of the season to join Manchester United, where he would finally get his hands on the Premier League trophy.
Euro 2012 followed this season but Van Persie scored just once for the Netherlands as they went out in the group stage of the competition. He is now the manager Feyenoord's U18s.
12. Thierry Henry — Premier League 2003-04 — 30 goals
Thierry Henry is regarded as one of the greatest all-time forwards ever to play in the Premier League. He scored 175 goals in the division for Arsenal and 30 of them came during the 2003-04 season. The Arsenal team of this campaign is known as the Invincibles as they did not lose a single league match.
Henry netted a hat-trick against Liverpool and also scored four against Leeds United that season. This was Henry's second Premier League title with the Gunners and it was also to be his last. The Frenchman joined Barcelona in 2007 before heading to MLS to play for the New York Red Bulls. He did return to Arsenal on loan in 2012 where he added one more goal to his Premier League tally.
If Henry did not join Barca and stayed with Arsenal then he may have broken Alan Shearer's record. However, no one could begrudge him a move to the Spanish side where he won La Liga twice and also the Champions League.
13. Kevin Phillips — Premier League 1999-00 — 30 goals
Kevin Phillips helped Sunderland get promoted the previous season and during the 1999-00 campaign, he really stepped up to the mark. He formed an impressive partnership with Niall Quinn -who found the back of the net 14 times — and managed to top the goalscoring charts with 30 goals. This included one hat-trick against Derby County.
He won the European Golden Shoe that season as he had scored the most goals out of all the top leagues in the continent. Phillips remains the only Englishman to ever win this award.
Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League that season, so they narrowly missed out on a place in the UEFA Cup.
Euro 2000 followed that season and Phillips was included in England's squad but was an unused substitute in the tournament.
14. Harry Kane — Premier League 2016-17 — 29 goals
Harry Kane claimed his second Golden Boot by scoring 29 goals as he helped Tottenham Hotspur finish second in the Premier League in the 2016/17 season. His campaign included hat-tricks against West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City, and Hull City, whilst he also scored four against Leicester City.
That season was also Spurs' last one at White Hart Lane and Kane scored his club's last goal at that ground.
It was an impressive season for Kane, especially as the campaign came off the back of England being humiliated at Euro 2016 where the lost in the last 16 to Iceland.
15. Didier Drogba — Premier League 2009-10 — 29 goals
Didier Drogba makes this list with his 29 goals during the 2009-10 season which were instrumental in Chelsea winning the Premier League. His form was not just about finding the back of the net, as he also provided 13 assists. The Ivorian ended the campaign in style with a hat-trick in an 8-0 win against Wigan Athletic on the final day of the season which clinched the title.
What is also impressive about Drogba winning the Golden Boot this season, was that he missed three games whilst he was with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Drogba also scored in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth which Chelsea won to complete a double winning campaign.
The forward left Stamford Bridge in 2012 to join Shanghai Shenhua which followed a spell with Galatasaray. He then returned to the Blues for the 2014/15 season where he won another Premier League title. In total he won the league four times with Chelsea and will always be a legend at the club.
