NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Today’s beloved meteorologist Al Roker recently ditched the NBC show midway. However, co-host Craig Melvin revealed the reason behind Roker's sudden absence.
On Monday, September 11, Roker was around to handle the weather report for the day for just about nine minutes into the show.
This comes after Roker shared an exciting news away from his hosting duties. The weatherman revealed he will be one of the contestants for People’s ‘Sexiest Grampa Alive’ for the news outlet’s popular ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ issue.
Roker will be competing against Pierce Brosnan, Kurt Russell, and Michael Douglas.
Why did Al Roker ditch ‘Today’?
Roker was present for most part of the show, but when it was time for all the hosts to get together on the couch where they usually report from, Melvin revealed Roker was out on assignment.
Although it's unclear what project Roker was working on, he had things to attend to and is probably going to return within the next day or so.
Additionally, Dylan Dreyer was also absent, with Vicky Nguyen taking her place.

The wedding was a lavish affair, and both Roker and Deborah shared sweet photos from the celebration.
Deborah took to her Instagram on Sunday, September 10, to share breathtaking snapshots from the magical event.
Deborah and Roker appeared in a photo showing off their sophisticated evening wear. While Deborah was wearing a multicolored dress accessorized with a silver necklace, Roker looked great in a tweed suit and white button-down shirt.
The couple hugged on the dance floor while grinning from ear to ear. At the reception table, surrounded by guests, Deborah posed with the brides, Robin and Amber.
Robin donned a white bridal gown with a sparkling diamond high neckline, while her partner, Amber, sported a white gown with a taffeta skirt.
The group shared laughter in a candid moment captured on camera, and there were several photos of Deborah and Roker with friends.
They also captured a special shot of Robin and Amber during their first dance, where the brides held hands and exchanged loving glances as they moved gracefully across the dance floor.
