Whoopi Goldberg’s new career announcement sends fans into frenzy amid rumors of ‘The View’ exit

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg is apparently expanding her career in a new way after making headlines for her commentary in ‘The View’. The 61-year-old recently took to Instagram to announce that she is working on an exclusive comic book, centering around a grandmother superhero whose powers are triggered by menopause.

The ‘Sister Act’ star will co-write the graphic novel, titled ‘The Change’, with television writer Jaime Paglia, who created the Sci-Fi Channel's ‘Eureka’ and worked on The CW's ‘The Flash’. The comic book will be published under the banner of Dark Horse Comics, the media company once known for content like Mike Mignola’s 'Hellboy'. As per the publisher, ‘The Change’ depicts the adventures of Isabel Frost, a wife, mother, and grandmother who feels she is spinning her wheels in life. Despite having an amazing support network of family and fellow gamers, Isabel's life remains stagnant.

'Superhero with a saggy chest'

However, things take a drastic turn after Frost’s body adjusts to menopause and she begins to develop supernatural abilities. With the help of her dependable grandson, Frost then takes on the identity of a superhero called The Change and commits herself wholeheartedly to the task of saving humanity, according to the Daily Mail. Goldberg announced the project with a first look of the title character, who is seen wrapped in a long black leather coat and holding a ball of blue and purple flame.

"A new kind of hero is coming to Dark Horse Comics courtesy of Whoopi Goldberg, who is co-writing The Change, a graphic novel about an older superhero," read the caption of the Instagram post. The 'Corrina, Corrina' star added a comment about the project, saying, "I made this for every woman over a certain age who still knows that somewhere inside her is a superhero with a saggy chest and a big behind and who can still kick a**.” The comic is available now for pre-order and will be released at the end of November.

'World needs more older superheroes'

The post garnered immense social media attention with Goldberg’s fans flooding the comment section with praises for her. "I'm not even a comic book fan, but this [piqued] my interest," one person wrote. "YES!!! The world needs more older superheroes!!! ??? Gimme a tough-as-nails granny over yet another reluctant teen any day!!!" a second user said while the third asserted, “Congratulations for acknowledging older is not lesser. Best wishes to you and the new project.” Another commented, “Is it about menopause? One has to be a superhero when dealing with it.”

The comic book announcement came amid rife rumors claiming that Whoopi has been asked to quit ‘The View’ following her behavior on ABC’s long-running talk show. Most recently, Whoopi lashed out at the producers as they used the music that indicates the end of the segment, not once, but twice on the same show. Previously in 2022, the star was suspended for two weeks after she set off a media firestorm by claiming that the Holocaust was not about race as "these are two white groups of people!" Following a concerning backlash, she issued an apology saying she "stands corrected" and was "sorry for the hurt I have caused."
