21 funniest jokes about Bristol Airport's new 'multi-faith area'
Move over, Sistine Chapel, there’s a new religious building in town: Bristol Airport’s “multi-faith area in the free waiting zone”. The new facility was announced by Bristol Airport on X/Twitter yesterday, and offers travellers a moment of peace and quiet amid the rush of trying to catch their flight. For all intents and purposes, it sounds like a great idea. But the execution? Let’s just say it didn’t quite hit the mark. It is a tiny, grey box in the middle of a grey, grim, quintessentially English car park. Not quite the magnificence and splendour that past generations have bestowed upon their religious buildings, you could say. Obviously, social media was thrilled about this. Here’s what people had to say about it. Will it be remembered as the eighth wonder of the world? The jury’s still out on that one. Man's marriage proposal on a hot air balloon goes horribly wrong
Elaborate marriage proposals are amazing, and can create some of the most memorable moments in life – until they go wrong. That’s what appeared to happen to content creator Gray Fagan, who recently proposed to his girlfriend, Chloe, on a hot air balloon. In a 12 November video, Fagan whips out a ring while he and Chloe are high in the sky, amid a crowd of fellow balloon tourists. What happened next didn’t make anybody very happy, by the looks of things. Or did it...? He said: “Um, Chloe, I’ve known you for six years now. I, uh, have known since the day I met you that I wanted you to be my friend and partner forever. “And today I thought on this beautiful day, in this beautiful place, I would make it official and ask you to be my wife.” Rather than saying yes, Chloe looked shocked and close to tears, repeatedly pushing the ring away and saying: “Please stop.” Fagan was optimistic in the video caption, writing: “Technically she never said no.” However, there's a catch. The creator’s profile says he barters in “scripted chaos”. Could it be a total fake? Many in the comments seem to have interpreted it as genuine. One person wrote: “Would have been a good idea to bring a parachute instead of a picnic basket.” Another said: “The people behind you probably want to jump from second hand embarrassment.” A third added: “The moment of silence was deafening.” However, others speculated that the video is scripted. If it was, Fagan’s got the attention he wanted, with more than 35m people having watched it on TikTok and 151,000 likes on Instagram. One person said: “This is scripted but ok lol.” Another wrote: “My skin is crawling. Absolutely brilliant video once again.” And a third person said: “The amount of people have posted and commented on this on Twitter thinking it’s real worries me greatly.” Sounds like they know something the others don’t. What does 'gyatt' mean on TikTok?
Whether it's home inspiration, easy food tutorials, cleaning hacks, style advice, or creating a whole new vocabulary – if there's one thing TikTok doesn't lack, it's variety. In recent months, the popular platform has invented a string of cryptic codewords, including 401 and mascara. Both terms are often used by women on the app to talk discretely about certain areas of their lives. But now, there's a term becoming increasingly common on TikTok: "Gyatt". While the term isn't exclusive to TikTok, it's certainly become the latest slang word making its way across the platform. Many people were left baffled by the word, forcing them to ask fellow users the definition. The meaning is pretty straightforward. It's simply a shortened version of "god damn". The term was seemingly first used by YouTube and Twitch streamer YourRage who would say "gyatt" whenever an attractive female would appear on his streams. Kai Cenat has also popularised the term. The slang term has gone on to become mainstream on TikTok, with many Gen Zers using it in their videos and in comments sections. Elsewhere, "gyatt" apparently stands for "get your act together," according to Acronym Finder. However, this isn't the commonly used way of using the word. Meanwhile, Gen Z TikTokers have gone on to create a whole new language of their own, including the likes of: Cheugy: When a millennial is trying too hard to be cool. Rizz: Short for charisma, thus a 'rizzler' is someone with lots of charisma. Suss: When something feels sketchy or suspicious. Situationship: A romantic relationship with someone that remains undefined. No cap: Another way of saying you're not lying. Why is Cilla Black trending? Late star's funniest moments are going viral
Anyone who has been on Twitter/X this week will perhaps have noticed that Cilla Black has been trending on the platform as people remember her funniest moments. The late singer and TV presenter entertained audiences with a career spanning over five decades, with sixties hits such as "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and "You're My World" before hosting her own BBC variety show, Cilla from 1968 to 1976. She continued to be a permanent fixture on our screens as the host of Blind Date (1985-2003) Surprise Surprise (1984-2001), and The Moment of Truth (1998-2001) The year 2013 marked a significant milestone for Cilla, having worked 50 years in the entertainment industry. In 2015, she passed away aged 72 following a fall and suffering from a stroke at her holiday villa in Spain. Tributes poured in for the Liverpudlian and at her funeral including from fellow singer-turned-TV presenter and close friend Paul O’Grady (who later passed away earlier this year). "If I had to sum Cilla up in one word it would be ‘laughter’. Because that’s all we did. We got up to a lot of trouble but we laughed while we were doing it," he said. We're all a bit clueless as to how this trend began but nevertheless, the memories have been entertaining to read and watch - here are some of Cilla's best and funniest moments: When she quit Blind Date - while live on air Her favourite snack was an Oxo cube rubbed into an orange "All Night Long" (Cilla's Version) Performing 'Eye of the Tiger' down at a local leisure centre She called out an uncover journalist on Blind Date Her rendition of You're So Vain Cilla Black played the grandmother of Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts in a sketch How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Gen Z and Millennials are finally uniting following comedian's rallying cry
It’s no secret that pesky Gen Zers on social media love mocking their elders – in particular millennials. And for Iliza Shlesinger, a 40-year-old comedian, it’s time for them to stop. The performer is done with the younger generation picking apart millennial humour, skinny jeans and awful slang, and has taken to TikTok to speak her truth. On 13 November, she posted one of her standup performances, where she asked members of her live audience if any were Gen Z. A small cheer went up, and Shlesinger responded that they are not “so bold outside of a TikTok comment section”. She went on to recount some of the things Gen Zers have called millennials in recent years – “cheugy”, for example, which describes what they see as outdated fashion. But instead of going for all-out war, Shlesinger wants the enmity to stop, pointing out that both generations are at the mercy of the housing crisis, and that both lost out more than Gen X and boomers in the pandemic. She said: "You're angry, and I get that. We are angry too, but we have heartburn and our backs hurt, but we are right there with you." She added that the only reason the two generations are at loggerheads on TikTok is that they are the only two that use the app. It is “violence by proximity,” she said. The video went viral, with millions of views and thousands of comments, including many Gen Zers who said they completely understood millennials’ plight. One said: "It's the younger Gen Z that hates on millennials older Gen Z stands proudly with millennials." Another added: "Love you millennials!" Shlesinger summarised it neatly: "Never forget, we forged social media. Never forget that we walked on Instagram so you could run on TikTok." Never a truer word was spoken. Cliff Richard has a picture with him and a 'thin' Elvis in his house amid fat shaming scandal
It has been revealed that Cliff Richard does have a photograph with Elvis Presley after all, following the singer’s bizarre fat-shaming comments about the legendary performer. Controversy arose earlier this week when Richard appeared on ITV’s This Morning and revealed he had declined the opportunity to meet and have a picture taken with the music icon Elvis because he had “put on a lot of weight”. It turned out that moment was the last opportunity Richard would get to have a photo with Elvis, as the singer died shortly afterwards in 1977. But, despite turning down the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the King of Rock and Roll because of his weight gain, it appears it didn’t stop Richard from getting a painting of the two of them together commissioned. A picture with apparent proof was hilariously shared by comedian and broadcaster Jon Holmes on X/Twitter, who claimed in the caption: “See, #cliffrichard actually *does* have a painting of him with (thin) #Elvis in his house. “A painting that he commissioned despite them never having met. I know this because we recorded a programme there some years back.” In the painting, which looks to be hanging above a piano, the two singers can be seen on stage performing together, with Richard singing into his microphone while a trim-looking Elvis stands alongside him. Holmes added: “Note how Cliff is taking the vocals, while Elvis stands watching in awe.” The revelation caused quite a stir as people poked fun at Richard’s apparent fatphobia. Someone commented: “The plot thicccckens, obsessed with (thin) Elvis. What’s wrong with this guy?” Another mocked: “The plot thickens! (Cliff won't like that, get the plot on a diet, quick).” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. The model, aged 28, appears to be sitting on the floor in the clip. She can be seen crying while Tracey Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ plays in the background. Breckie Hill says shower video was leaked by her ex-boyfriend
Breckie Hill has claimed that her ex-boyfriend was responsible for leaking a shower video that went viral online. TikTok star Breckie Hill has previously claimed that she has been the victim of malicious leaks of her private data three times, and has received phone calls from strangers after her mobile number was published online. The leaks from her Snapchat became a topic of conversation on a recent podcast appearance, as the TikToker revealed someone had hacked her account. Hill also claimed that a leaked shower video of her was released without her consent by her ex-boyfriend because he was angry that they broke up. During an appearance on the One Night with Steiny podcast, Hill explained: “There was a video of me that was leaked, and like, my ex-boyfriend did it… because I broke up with him.” She revealed that she has not spoken to her unnamed ex since the incident and claimed he is only in touch with Hill’s mother because she is taking him to court. Dexerto reports that in a since-deleted TikTok, captioned “best day ever”, Hill wrote on the text overlay, “When I get the shower video taken down from every single site on the internet” as she danced in the video. In another video about the seemingly unrelated Snapchat leaks, she wrote, “After three days of crying, I realized I’m not gonna let some guy who hacked my Snapchat ruin my life. Hopefully, this third time is the last”. @breckiehill_ Reports suggest that Hill was working with a private investigator to try and uncover the identity of the person who hacked her Snapchat account. Debates about 'Lightning McQueen's Piston Cup wins' are going viral as Cars becomes surprising trend
Serena Williams, Lionel Messi, and Lewis Hamilton are legends of their sport, but fans of the 2006 film Cars also believe Lightning McQueen is also up there as one of the GOATs. The debate began in a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show where a viewer - Danny in Wisconsin - asked the host where McQueen's Piston Cup wins would rank him amongst the sporting GOATs. “When you think about the GOAT of sports… where do you rank a guy like Lightning McQueen with seven Piston Cups?” he asked. It's fair to say Smith had a strong opinion on this topic, where he brought in the achievements of another character from the film - Strip ‘The King’ Weathers. “I would tell you, he wouldn’t be the GOAT… When you talk about Strip ‘The King’ Weathers and Lightning McQueen, they’re both tied with seven Piston Cups. How can you be the GOAT if you’ve got something tied with you? Sorry, that ain’t going to work,” he argued. Smith then accused Danny of trying to “catch him” out with Strip’s equally impressive record of seven Piston cups, equal to McQueen's. “You didn’t think I knew about Cars, did you? You slept on a brother,” the host said. He continued: “Strip Weathers has seven Piston Cups. I am not about to sit and argue with a grown-ass man about the movie Cars… you should have brought me someone who didn’t have as many Piston Cups." To which Smith then asked why the Cars characters were the subject of the debate rather than Fast & Furious. Danny shot back, making the point that Cars is “real to little kids” – but Smith was prepared with a rebuttal. “You’re not a little kid! You’re 21. You would have a point if you were seven years old [and] calling me. What are you doing, wearing a diaper?” he screamed there off-road and then proceeded to hang up on Danny. The clip has since gone viral receiving a whopping 28.1m views, and 140,000 likes. Meanwhile, there has also recently been further debate where Cars fans are ranking the characters in terms of their achievements. Many argued that Lightning McQueen is the GOAT - he does have main character energy after all. @alexcolemann @benlikessports Jackson Storm get ready to leaen chinese buddy🫡 However, not everyone agrees... One person said: "Strip Weathers won in 4 different eras. that’s all I’m gonna say." "Gotta be the King Strip Weathers ALL DAY," another person wrote. Someone else added: "Strip Weathers was the Messi of cars." "Strip weathers dominated in his own gen 2 era along with the gen 3off-road and gen 4 cars and he’s #2? The longevity over McQueen puts him at 1 in my book," a fourth person commented. Guess we'll all have to watch Cars again... Ben Shapiro tried to roast Joe Biden on his birthday and it completely backfired
Right-wing political commentator Ben Shapiro tried to roast Joe Biden but it immediately backfired on him. Shapiro is no stranger to controversy or voicing his opinion, regardless of how unhinged it might seem. Earlier this year, the conservative commentator made not one but three videos about how much he disliked the 2023 hit Barbie movie. Now, it is President Joe Biden that Shapiro has set his sights on after trying to roast him about his age after celebrating his 81st birthday. In a post on his Instagram, Biden shared a picture of himself celebrating turning 81 and instantly made it a joke, subtly mocking every one of his haters who like to criticise him because of his age. In the picture, he sat at a table where a cake with 81 lit candles sat in front of him. The photo was captioned: “Thanks for the birthday well-wishes today, everyone. Turns out on your 146th birthday, you run out of space for candles!” Shapiro reacted to the picture in a post on X/Twitter, claiming it is “one of the worst campaign blunders” he has witnessed. Shapiro wrote: “This is legitimately one of the worst campaign blunders I have ever seen. Everything about it is idiotic. “He’s gripping the table as though he’s about to keel over. He's got the rictus smile, illuminated by fire. This cake looks like somebody set the world on fire. Which he did.” In the replies, Shapiro’s post got absolutely ridiculed for being nonsense and for demonstrating how he seems to get riled up over nothing. One person commented: “Ben is a fascinating case study in how you can pretend so hard to be upset about stupid things that you actually start believing it.” “A picture 99% of the electorate will never even see is one of the worst campaign blunders you’ve ever seen? Ben is a complete moron,” another argued. Someone else asked: “Has Ben lost his mind and he really sees these things or is he just trying to convince you to see what’s not there?” Another argued, “I’d rather have 81 candles on my cake than 91 criminal charges hanging over my head!”, referencing the former Republican president Donald Trump who faces a number of criminal charges against him. Someone else added: “Even if any of what this imbecile says is true it will impact exactly zero votes. A real political genius this ‘Ben Shapiro’.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Daniel Craig's new look compared to a European politician
Daniel Craig looks like he was born to wear a suit. As James Bond, he pulled off daring stunts in a three-piece and helped save the world in some of the finest Savile Row custom fits, but his latest look has got people talking more than most. The actor, who officially retired from the role of 007 in 2021 with No Time To Die, recently appeared in a new YouTube video with GQ to talk about all things watches. Craig is well known for wearing Omega watches, which were permanently on his wrist during his tenure as Bond. But while the extensive interview about his collection will have pleased horology geeks everywhere, it was his look that caught the eye of a lot of viewers. Inside Daniel Craig's Iconic James Bond Watch Collection | Dialed In | Esquire www.youtube.com As well as a stylish suit, he was also seen wearing thin frame glasses – and many compared the look to that of a bureaucratic European politician. It's one of 2023's unlikeliest memes, with one writing: "He looks like he’s about to announce a new capital requirement on large European banks." Another said: "Wishing Daniël de Kroog and his DVV luck in today’s election, he’s exactly the kind of fresh face the Netherlands needs right now."
