Couple discover get married after discovering that they are cousins
Anyone in a committed relationship is bound to find out unexpected things about their partner. Those things tend to include weird habits and phobias, not the fact that they’re blood-related to you. And yet, for one couple from Utah, this is precisely what happened half a year into their romance. In a video shared to TikTok by a user called Kenna, 20, captioned “shiz happens,” she revealed that she and her then-boyfriend found out that they were cousins after six months of dating. But rather than call things quits at that point, they got married a year later. Inevitably, the public admission prompted an outpouring of horrified comments from fellow TikTokers, with a number demanding a “storytime” about the situation. However, instead of offering clarity, Kenna simply posted another clip, this one showing her embracing and kissing her husband, and reinforcing the point that they were cousins. This time, she branded the situation: “Just Utah things”. @kennahags Just Utah things #cousinsdating #siblingsordating #siblinglove #family #marriedlife #cousinsmarriage #wedding #funny #couplescomedy #ick #awkward Commentators were quick to stress that incest is not a “Utah thing” but, rather, an illegal thing. Indeed, Utah is one of just 24 states in the US where marriage between first cousins is prohibited by law. But in 19 others, including New York and Florida, such marriages are entirely permitted. It’s perhaps worth noting that despite being from Utah originally, Kenna and her hubby now live in the Sunshine State. Still, it is also worth noting that Kenna hasn’t responded to questions about the degree to which she and her man are related. Since the commercialisation of DNA testing via ancestry sites, many of us have discovered that we have third, fourth and fifth cousins scattered across the globe. And, of course, gene pool-wise there’s a very big difference between a first cousin and a fifth cousin. Nevertheless, Kenna is obviously quite willing to let people believe that they are, indeed, closely related by broadcasting the eyebrow-raising disclosure. She also has proudly broadcast other controversial facts about their relationship, including that she is a stay-at-home wife who sunbathes by the pool while her husband/cousin works, and that they don’t follow members of the opposite sex on Instagram unless they’re family members. @kennahags Things my husband and I do that just make sense #CapCut #contriversialopinions #marriage #marriedlife #newlymarried #newlyweds #contriversialcontent #stayathomemom #stayathomewife #sahm She has also repeatedly stressed their desire to have children and, given that they’re both Mormons (as she revealed in an earlier video), they’re likely to want a fair few. This has prompted further concerned remarks from viewers given that they are, you, know, COUSINS. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. 19 of the funniest takedowns of Cliff Richard fat shaming Elvis
Sir Cliff Richard, has sparked a strong backlash against himself after being accused of 'fat shaming' the late great Elvis Presley, during an appearance on This Morning. The 83-year-old singer appeared on the show on Monday to promote his new book, A Head Full of Music, which highlights his lifelong career in the entertainment industry and his new album Cliff with Strings — My Kinda Life. However, the interview took an awkward tone when Richard was asked if he'd ever met Elvis. He explained that he hadn't but did have one chance to meet the 'King of Rock 'n' Roll' but turned it down due to the amount of weight Elvis had. put on in his later life. "I thought, if I'm having a photograph taken with him and it's gonna be hanging on my refrigerator, he's gotta look good," Richard said. "And I put it off, and of course then he died." "Should never have put it off just because they're a bit heavier," he added which prompted host Alison Hammond to say: "Is that why you don't want me at your house?" The surreal moment has since prompted an onslaught of memes mocking Richard for the odd comment. Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman told to call the police after finding creepy hidden ‘love shack’ in her house
A woman lived what could easily have been the opening to a horror movie when she discovered a secret room in her house. The homeowner, who goes by the username BigBrah1 on TikTok, shared a video of the spine-tingling find, last month. In the clip, she showed how she’d uncovered the hidden space by opening a cabinet in her bathroom to find a secret door. Pushing it open, she revealed a room decorated with rainbow-coloured hand and footprints and the words “Love Shack” painted across the wall. It was also decked out with drawings and the names of three girls written on a piece of paper. The TikTok has racked up more than 7 million views and 600,000 likes in the past month, with viewers sharing their alarm at the concealed lair. @bigbrah1 what do i do ? #horror#horrortok#hiddenroom#hiddenroominmyhouse#halloween#scary#90s#analoghorror#fyp#scarytiktoks “It was either a fun little hideout, or the creepiest thing ever,” one wrote. “Absolute weirdest vibes,” said another. “Love shack? The feet?” “That is so obviously a room decorated for children that says LOVE SHACK!?? HUH!!” added a third. “It’s giving abduction vibes,” noted a fourth. In a follow-up, BigBrah offered some context surrounding her surprise discovery, explaining that it was located in the basement bathroom of her home, which made it “even creepier”. She said that she was now using it for storage and had given it a fresh coat of paint, but stressed that it was “still creepy as hell”. “This is definitely made for children because you cannot stand in here at all,” she added. Still, responding to some commentators who suggested she should report it to law enforcement, she said: “I don't like coming down here, but I will not be calling the police because [...], what the hell do you want me to tell them?” @bigbrah1 Replying to @garfield ty for all the support !! 🫶🏻 A fellow TikToker replied to her update by saying: “I would be digging into the history of the home for sure. The people who owned it. Or built it. So odd. Gives off not good vibes.” “So you think someone built a child-sized insulated room for no reason?????” wrote another. “What do you mean you don’t know what to tell the police[?]” But others dismissed all the hysteria, with one insisting: “That's just a teenager's secret spot, you guys overanalyse everything.” Another pointed out: “This looks like the ultimate 90's kid hideout. Lots of us loved the song ‘Love Shack’ by the B-52's.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Child's maths homework divides parent's after teacher's ruling on answer
A child's maths homework has sparked a divisive debate online after a teacher marked it wrong. In the viral post on X/Twitter, one Irish dad shared a photo of the question which simply asked how many corners a semi-circle had. The child answered that there were two, on the bottom left and right corners – but the teacher said this was incorrect and suggested there were none. Dad Mark wrote: "Hmm. Controversial ruling from the múinteoir here on 'how many corners does a semi-circle have'". His tweet has since been viewed over 800,000 times and was inundated with responses, with one person writing: "I reckon there’ll be some argue this, but your child seems to be right. If the definition of a corner is where two lines meets, but doesn’t specifically state it has to be straight lines, then a semi-circle has 2 corners. But, if the definition being used is two straight lines, then it’s 0. " Another added: "Mmmm… from my memory these are not corners, as a corner requires that two lines meeting, to create an angle of some sort…. It’s a long time since I practiced theorems. They sure look like corners!" Meanwhile, a third joked: "I find it mildly hilarious we have grown adults, some with prestigious degrees in education, deliberating over what seems like 2nd class homework." It comes after another eight-year-old's homework with a very vague question stumped the internet. Shared to Reddit, the question asked: "Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?" Understandably, the child and many full-grown adults were left confused. "The correct answer is 'some,'" one person humoured. Woman who 'died for 3 minutes' shares what she saw
A woman has revealed that she was pronounced dead for three minutes after battling with heatstroke – and claims that watches “stop working” whenever she wears them. When Jade visited a friend for a relaxing summer afternoon, she didn’t expect her life to be hanging in the balance only hours later. She recalls the heat in Green Bay, Wisconsin, US, reaching 32 degrees and with the high humidity, this made the temperature “unbearable.” Soon, she started experiencing frequent bouts of nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and exhaustion which caused her to collapse on the living room sofa. As Jade, aged 36, was rushed to hospital, medics pronounced her dead for three minutes and said the culprit was heatstroke. Now, in a bid to raise awareness, she’s shared her story on TikTok, racking up 191,000 views and over 20,000 likes and says that the experience has made her “unafraid” of death. “I had experienced an extreme fear of dying before this incident, but when it actually happened, I had zero fear,” the content creator, from Wisconsin, told NeedToKnow.co.uk. “I remember feeling consistently yucky and really gross. “I was run down, lethargic and sick to my stomach, with my mouth bone dry. She continued: “I went out to smoke and the moment that I finished and stood up, I knew I was in trouble. My priority immediately became getting back inside and I don’t think I understood at this point that I was dying, but I did understand that I was going down.” Jade recalls stumbling into the apartment and slumping onto the couch, before making a gurgling sound. She said: “Everything must have happened in a matter of moments, but it felt like much longer and this profound feeling of utter sickness hit me like a tonne of bricks. My head felt like it was inflating, yet my entire body as if it was shrinking. I had never known anything like it before. It made me completely OK with dying because I wanted to sleep forever." “Then, everything went black and that was the moment I knew I was about to pass away.” Jade was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital via ambulance, where she was revived via a defibrillator. As she arrived, she fell in and out of consciousness, but imaging tests of her head were carried out, along with blood tests and electrocardiograms, a test to check the heart’s rhythm. Over the next four days, she received injections to prevent blood clots and soon, medics told her she had been pronounced “dead” for three minutes on arrival with heatstroke. In the clip, she discusses her story and the “weird” occurrences which have happened since. Users flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many detailing their own experiences, with one writing: “I fainted TWICE that summer.” Someone else commented: “I was pregnant that summer. The heat was HORRIBLE!!!” Jade was born with Wolff Parkinsons’ White and postural tachycardia syndrome, which both cause abnormalities with increased heart rate. Often, she feels like she’s going to “throw up” her heart and sometimes, extreme shakiness, as well as fainting spells. Due to this, she finds intense heat triggers these episodes and while her near-death experience in July 2011 hasn’t made these worse, she believes they were a contributing factor. Jade said: “My symptoms are still mild, but I have been getting new ones, such as a low-grade fever and muscle weakness. I'm not sure if these are related to the heatstroke. I’m still waiting for a final diagnosis, as this has only occurred after my incident, but I will always fight for myself and my life.” Since then, Jade has also suffered with frequent seizures, which she had never had prior to the incident. She said: “At first, I thought it was heatstroke again, but I just passed out and doctors believe it’s because I’m still so exhausted from all the anxiety of almost dying. But, I have been admitted a few times for these and I’ve had tests such as MRIs and more blood work done, as well as seeing a neurologist and I’ve been diagnosed with epilepsy. “Now, I don’t have them so much, but I’ve been in touch with other near-death experience survivors who said they had seizures for a while after, but then they suddenly stopped.” Jade has also experienced other “strange anomalies” such as not being able to wear regular watches as they would stop working once she put them on. She added: “It wasn’t something that happened before and the only watches that are safe are expensive smartwatches. “I’ve given up on them entirely, but vape pens also shut down even with a full battery. “I’ve also had a lot of spooky things happening, such as hearing voices and seeing things that aren’t there. “Sometimes it’s been whispers or dark hazy figures and I began recording my home because I was petrified that I was losing it. “I believe this is telling me that life continues after death. “I feel like I’m in a special club and it’s made me learn how to take better care of myself, as well as valuing life more. “I don’t live in fear of death and I know that when my time comes, any fear will melt away like it did before. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that it is absolutely true what they say – the fear itself is always worse than the thing we actually fear.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Tiffany Gomas responds to 'embarrassing' SNL sketch about her
Tiffany Gomas, one of the most notorious viral figures of the year, is back in the news thanks to the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. Tiffany, of course, shot to unlikely fame after being filmed uttering the now immortal words “that motherf***er is not real” and launching into a bizarre rant on a plane over the summer. She previously addressed what “actually” happened after she was removed from the flight, albeit without giving a completely satisfying answer, and now she’s been immortalised in the form of an SNL sketch. Over the weekend, the comedy show featured a sketch which jokingly referred to the kinds of people you might see at an airport over the holiday season. There is "couple on their last Thanksgiving trip together", "woman with service animals she clearly doesn't need" and "TSA agent shouting the same thing 12 different ways". However, Gomas was clearly the inspiration for “woman who’s about to go viral”. "I am telling you right now, that mother trucker is not real,” the character says after appearing on screen, repeating Gomas’s infamous lines. Gomas has now responded to the sketch, responding to the clip on Twitter/X by writing: “Well, this is embarrassing.” She also used laughing emojis in the post, so it looks like she’s at least able to joke about the incident now. It comes after Gomas previously addressed the incident while speaking to the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast four months on from her meltdown on an American Airlines jet, the marketing executive spoke about the aftermath of her outburst, as well as what prompted the whole thing. During their chat, the podcast’s host Dan Katz asked Gomas outright “what [she] saw” to prompt such an extreme reaction. She replied: “Yeah, the reason why I probably haven't come out yet… it's so cringe… “I did not see anything.” Elaborating, she said: “I got into a bit of an altercation. It spiralled out of control. It was not my best moment, I mean, it was actually a horrible moment – absolutely mortifying.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. Woman sings hymn to calm down 'possessed' plane passenger
2023 has officially become the year of plane drama. It seems as though every time you take a swipe through social media, at least one person is kicking up a storm mid-air. From Tiffany Gomas' "not real" rant, which she finally cleared up, to the woman who used her so-called influencer status during a confrontation with a fellow passenger, it sure has been difficult to mind our own business and simply swipe past. Well now, another altercation has taken place, and this time it was said to be on a Frontier flight. In the four-minute footage shared to Reddit, one woman can be heard wailing while staff members appear to try and take her to the back of the plane to calm her down. "Stop pulling on my arm," she yells, as she later attempts to climb over rows of seats. The situation then intensifies as another woman jumps in claiming the passenger is "possessed". "That doesn't happen for no reason. This is actual evidence there's a real devil that wants to kill each and every one of you all, including your family members," the woman in the hat says. "That’s not her, she’s possessed!" she continues. "She needs help!" She then tells fellow passengers that Jesus Christ is the way forward. Later in the clip, the chaos starts once again, while the preacher stands at the back of the plane and calmly sings a hymn in an attempt to resolve the situation. Reddit - Dive into anything from PublicFreakout My little sister’s first experience flying by her self on Frontier byu/octopussking inPublicFreakout It didn't take long for hundreds of viewers to flood the comments section, with one calling it the top five plane "freak outs" of all time. Another said: "This transcends the freak out and has become performance art." Meanwhile, a third joked: "I'm not into conspiracy theories but I'm fully convinced Frontier hires crazy actors to keep prices low." Indy100 reached out to Frontier for comment. TikTok model left horrified after AI deepfake shows her getting dressed
A model was left horrified after discovering that someone had created a deepfake video of her getting undressed and posted it online. Model and TikToker Nadia Zalecka was mortified to find that she was one of a rising number of influencers being targeted for illicit content using artificial intelligence. Zalacka has more than 80,000 followers on TikTok, and was alerted to the compromising video by one of them. Speaking to the Daily Star, she explained that the person responsible had taken one of her videos before changing her face and name, before making her undress. @nadiazalecka “It’s so so scary. One of my TikTok followers came across it and tagged me. People need to realize how bad it actually is.” As well as saying that saying her likeness had been used before on dating sites, as well as having her likeness used on the “AI Undress” website. She added: “It was so scary seeing my video being manipulated so easily, it’s flooded with comments praising and supporting this fake person and little do they know it’s completely fake and my body is being used.” It’s another disturbing instance of deep fake technology being used for sinister subject matter. A rare intersex lobster called 'Bowie' has become a TikTok sensation
A super rare intersex lobster named Bowie has become an unexpected viral sensation on TikTok and people can’t get enough. Bowie was discovered by Maine lobster fisherman Jacob Knowles, who shared the discovery of Bowie with his 2.6 million followers, racking up 6.3 million views on the video. The lobster is half-blue and half-brown, with two-tone lobsters a 1-in-50 million find, according to the University of Maine’s Lobster Institute. In addition, it is also half-male and half-female. Knowles shared the discovery in a viral TikTok filmed on his fishing boat. In the clip, he explained: “This is the coolest lobster I’ve ever seen. Not only is it split 50/50 right down its back – blue and normal – but if you look underneath, it’s actually half male half female. “The blue side is a male, the normal side is a female, split 50/50 perfectly.” Knowles explained that the lobster was caught by a friend who gave it to him to show TikTok the incredibly rare find. @jacob__knowles Craziest lobster ever! What do you want to do with it? Let me know in the comments! #maine #lobster #fishing #ocean #interesting #commercialfishing #fy #LobsterTok #educate #didyouknow #coolcatch #rare #rarefind After asking viewers what to do with the lobster, it was determined that Knowles would keep it as a pet as opposed to releasing it back into the wild where another fisherman might sell it, as it is technically “legal” to fish it. A request for name suggestions was made, and one user won unanimously, suggesting: “Name it Bowie after David Bowie. He had a blue eye and (was) androgynous.” @jacob__knowles Replying to @GrackleTree We need help naming it! Most liked name wins! As long as it’s tik tok appropriate!! 😂 #maine #lobster #fishing #ocean #interesting #commercialfishing #fy #LobsterTok #educate #didyouknow #coolcatch #rare #rarefind #seafood #crazy #oneinamillion Knowles explained that he was going to construct a large cage that he would place in the ocean so the lobster could remain in its habitat while still being protected. The goal is to see if Bowie can produce eggs on the female side of its body without the help of another lobster since it has both reproductive organs. Judging by the TikTok comments Bowie appears to have earned a lot of fans. “We need a 24-hour live feed of the lobster,” one person said. Another commented: “I'm so damn invested in the saga of Bowie the Lobster.” Someone else suggested: “You should get an underwater camera you can have in the cage with Bowie!!” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Woman hit with 'creepy' proposal while trying to sell her engagement ring online
A woman trying to sell her engagement ring online was hit with a creepy proposal from a stranger. Nowadays, online dating is a common way to meet prospective partners, but when unsolicited messages start appearing in your social media inbox, it’s not always welcome. One woman was surprised when she found that selling an engagement ring on Facebook Marketplace resulted in several unwanted, creepy messages from men trying to hit on her. In a viral TikTok, Camille Fahrnbaue opened up about the incident, jokingly telling women via the caption, “Ladies, delete Hinge and download Facebook Marketplace”. She revealed over the course of the post that her husband had left her and so she was selling the ring on Facebook Marketplace. It seems the men used the fact she was selling an engagement ring as a sign she might be open to being approached, as Fahrnbaue posted several screenshots of some of the messages she received. One man responded to the ad: “Tbh I really don’t want the ring I’d rather just use the ring to re-marry you.” Another asked: “I’m not looking for a ring yet. Would it be too bold of me to take my shot?” “I don’t want to buy the ring but how about I take you country dancing and we can talk about what you’re going through,” another man messaged. In the comments, some found the content of the messages hilarious and rooted for Fahrnbaue saying it was “your husband's loss”. In a follow-up video, she shared that she managed to sell the ring and used the funds to fly back to the place in Italy where she and her ex eloped, in order to “make better memories”. iShowSpeed urges fans to stop dangerons swatting trend: "I could have died"
The curse of swatting has hit the streaming world once again, this time affecting iShowSpeed. He urged his followers to stop with the dangerous practice after having law officials called to his house, saying that he “could have really died” after having guns pointed at him. The practice of swatting is becoming a growing issue. Porn actress-turned-Twitch star Adriana Chechik previously revealed she was going to have to move house because of being targeted, while Adin Ross also found one of his latest streams being interrupted in his latest run in with law officials. The concerning trend sees streamers targeted by trolls who have uncovered their location, before making a hoax phone call to the emergency services, often claiming that there’s extreme violence taking place there. iShowSpeed was broadcasting to his subscribers when he realised he’d been targeted again, despite having moved into his new house just a week before. “Bro, just for my safety in case anything happens. Ain’t no f***ing way bro,” he says in the clip, before pulling down his streaming set up and walking into a different part of the house. Later in the video, a police team is seen entering the house. Thankfully, iShowSpeed shared an update after the raid and confirmed that he was OK. Pleading with his viewers, he said: “I just got swatted. I wish I knew whoever did that. That’s f***ed up. Don’t ever do that again in your life, bro. I could have really died. I had guns to my face. Don’t ever do that again.” Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Have your say in our news democracy. Woman sparks debate by taking neighbours old furniture and immediately selling it
A woman who took her neighbour's old furniture and resold it on Facebook Marketplace has sparked a debate online. TikTok creator Andrea (@avocandreatoast) shared how she planned on making some extra money, after getting the items for free and reselling them. "Someone in the apartment doesn't know what Facebook Marketplace is. I keep seeing free stuffy lying around," she says in the viral clip. Andrea explains that she took the bookcase for herself, but also noticed a decent desk and frame lying around, which she also rehomed to sell on. "I was just shocked at how pretty the frame was and why they weren't even attempting to sell the desk on Facebook Marketplace. And then I got the genius idea to do it myself," she said. She then went on to tell viewers that the desk she had advertised online had already sold. "I put it on for $20, got a million requests for it, and someone picked it up within two hours," she shared. @avocandreatoast another day, another dollar 🤣🤑 I don't know what I'd do without facebook marketplace and I'm amazed that some people don't use it #facebookmarketplacefinds #facebookmarketplacefurniture #fyp #sideincomeideas #sellingfurniture It didn't take long for Andrea's entrepreneurial thinking struck up a divisive conversation in the comments. "Imagine you're scrolling through FB marketplace and see the furniture you set outside for free," one person joked. It also seems Andrea wasn't the first to have the thought, with one viewer commenting they had made $2,000 over two years by reselling other peoples' items. Meanwhile, others expressed their thoughts on Facebook Marketplace, suggesting it could have been the reason for the original owner avoiding the platform. "I stopped selling stuff on FB marketplace because it's such a hassle. 800 'is this available?' messages and then 800 people ghosting." Wrote one. Another added: "I've had no luck with Facebook marketplace. Every person so far that's [messaged] about [an] item they don't show up."
