Candace Owens says Ariana Grande has 'daddy issues' for dating 'dweeb' Ethan Slater
Candace Owens has candidly dished her opinion on the Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater dating rumours – and she did not hold back. The 'Thank You Next' singer recently parted ways with her husband Dalton Gomez after two years of marriage. Since news broke of their separation, rumours surfaced online about Grande dating her West End co-star Ethan Slater, who is also said to be going through a recent breakup. Lilly Jay, Slater's partner of 10 years and the mother of their one-year-old child, has since broken her silence in an interview with Page Six about the pair's alleged romance. "[Ariana’s] the story really. Not a girl’s girl," Jay told the outlet. "My family is just collateral damage." Now, on an episode of the Candace Owens Podcast, the conservative commentator and author blasted Grande for being a "fake feminist". Owens said the first time she heard the story about the pair dating, she responded that she "obviously has daddy issues." "It's abundantly clear Ariana Grande has daddy issues," she continued. "She likes to pursue men that are in stable relationships, she likes to rip those relationships apart and it feels to me that there's obviously something that is plaguing her from her childhood." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Ariana Grande Is A HOME WRECKER ? www.youtube.com She went on to suggest that young women need father figures, otherwise, they become a "disaster in society." Owens said she is not just attacking Grande – but also "dweeb" Slater. "This is the first time that a girl that he thinks is way above his weight class here, 'oh my god, Ariana Grande is looking at me' and he has completely lost his mind," she said, before calling him a "weak man." "He allowed one girl to take a glance at him and he ruined his entire life," Owens continued. Owens suggested that the pair would not last... "The high for [Grande] is breaking up the relationship. She's not going to stay with him because he's already committed to divorcing his wife, so the game is over for her," she added. Teacher says students are 'tormenting' her with new 'coin boys' flipping trend
Teacher says students are 'tormenting' her with new 'coin boys' flipping trend
In schools, trends come and go like clockwork, whether they be related to a toy like fidget spinners or pranks they have seen on the internet. One teacher has opened up about a new and “annoying quirk” that has young people calling themselves “coin boys” and constantly flipping quarters. The anonymous teacher took to Reddit to complain about freshmen they teach participating in the “coin boys” trend. The hilarious post explained: “The newest thing here is a flock of self-proclaimed ‘coin boys’ who carry a quarter on hand at all times and constantly flip it. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “They have their entire personality revolve around coins, coin flips, and chance. When we went around doing an ice-breaker, 4 or 5 of the kids said some variation of ‘I live by the coin and die by the coin’ as their fact.” In the post, the teacher said one of the “coin boys” said he was going to flip a coin that would decide if he was going to do the assigned piece of work or not. The teacher explained: “When I assigned the first assignment of the school year, one of the coin boys was bold enough to say ‘heads I do it, tails I don’t.’ “I told him if he flipped the coin he would be getting a call home on the first week of HS. He flipped it anyway and it came up heads (thank god for that at least). “But then the other coin boy in that class flipped his coin and it came up tails. He said the coin has spoken and he’s not doing it. I say very well, enjoy your 0 and your call home— what a great way to start off the school year and your high school career.” Their post proceeded to go viral across social media, with many finding the post absolutely hilarious and pledging to “stand with the coin boys”. The teacher said they had looked up the trend online but hadn’t seen anything else about it, theorising that it must be a local group of friends who made it up. But, thanks to the viral post, it may have the opposite effect. Have your say in our news democracy. Lizzo loses more than 120,000 Instagram followers after issuing statement on accusations
Lizzo loses more than 120,000 Instagram followers after issuing statement on accusations
Lizzo has lost over 120,000 Instagram followers after the string of claims against her that she's since hit back at. For those unaware, it all started when former employees of the star came forward with allegations of sexual harassment, and creating a hostile work environment through racial and religious harassment. In an appearance on NBC News, Arianna Davis and Crystal Williams, two of Lizzo's former dancers, claimed Lizzo gave "thinly veiled" comments on their appearance and that it wasn't "an isolated experience." Lizzo has since taken to Instagram to pour water on the allegations, calling them "sensationalised". The statement said her ex-employees "already publicly admitted that they were told their behaviour on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional." "Sometimes I have to make hard decisions but it's never my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they aren't valued as an important part of the team," the star added. She went on to say she "would absolutely never criticise or terminate an employee because of their weight." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Now, the star has reportedly lost over 120,000 Instagram followers since the initial allegations. In the last 24 hours alone, over 80,000 people unfollowed the 'About Damn Time' singer, according to KingCasinoBonus. "For Lizzo fans, it will be alarming to see their idol accused of body-shaming, assault and more, when she has been such a proponent of body positivity for women all over the world," Ionut Marin, Chief Editor for KingCasinoBonus said. "As the lawsuit continues and new reports emerge, it will be interesting to see how Lizzo’s Instagram followers will fluctuate," Marin continued: "With over 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify, we could also see these figures fall over the coming weeks and months as more details are revealed. These reports could also threaten to derail any of the pop star’s music releases and tours in the future." Have your say in our news democracy. This Cambridge exam question is still baffling people 110 years after it was first published
This Cambridge exam question is still baffling people 110 years after it was first published
A 110-year-old English language question formerly used in Cambridge English exams is absolutely baffling people over a century later. Exams at school and university are typically not things people look back on with fond memories, but it’s something we do in order to progress academically. For those who sat the very long Cambridge exam wishing to become an English language teacher back in 1913, they may well have been haunted by a question that continues to confuse people in the year 2023. In celebration of 110 years of the Cambridge English exam, the question has been released, but can you solve it? The question comes from the June 1913 Certificate of Proficiency in English exam, which was sat by three people and cost £3 at the time. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter It was a gruelling 12-hour long exam and included sections on dictation, translation, and phonetic transcription. Today, more than 6 million people each year take the C2 Proficiency test, as it is now known. Francesca Woodward, Managing Director for English at Cambridge, said in a statement: “From just three candidates, we now open doors for millions of people every year to learn and teach English. "The historical papers from our archives paint a fascinating picture of how much has changed when it comes to learning English with Cambridge.” The question asks the candidates to “correct or justify” four of six different statements and to explain their reasoning. The first statement said: “I hope you are determined to seriously improve.” The second read: “Comparing Shakespeare with Aeschylus, the former is by no means inferior to the latter.” The third says: “I admit I was willing to have made peace with you.” The fourth reads: “The statement was incorrect, as any one familiar with the spot, and who was acquainted with the facts, will admit.” The fifth said: “It has the largest circulation of any paper in England.” And the sixth said: “The lyrical gifts of Shakespeare are woven into the actual language of the characters.” Cambridge highlights that what was deemed the correct English over 100 years ago may be different from now. Here are the answers: 1) This is a split infinitive and should be avoided in formal writing. The correct wordage would be, “seriously to improve”. 2) This statement is incorrect because it is a hanging participle and unintentionally modifies the wrong noun in a sentence. Alternatives that would be correct include, “Shakespeare is by no means inferior to Aeschylus” or “Shakespeare is just as good as Aeschylus”. 3) This statement uses the wrong tense and should read, “to make peace”. 4) Again, this uses the incorrect tense. The words “will admit” should instead be “would admit”. 5) and 6) are correct but candidates would have to explain why no changes are necessary. Have your say in our news democracy. Tenant claims her landlord used her apartment when she wasn't home
The idea that landlords can be petty and unreasonable has become a collective fact across the internet. But now, one woman has claimed hers took it way too far, by using her apartment when she wasn't home. Tahlia Smith from Brisbane made the move to Sydney, where she found a suitable "fully furnished" and "cheap" property for her and her husband. In the viral footage shared to TikTok, Tahlia confessed to being "naive" about the rental market as the pair had never visited Sydney before. "We thought we were doing the right thing because we were going through a legitimate, well-known real estate," she told viewers, adding that she would never use them again. When they arrived at the property, Tahlia claimed "It smelled like it had just been cleaned, like 10 minutes before. The fan was on, the lights were on, and the back door was unlocked." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter She went on to claim that the owner of the apartment was living in a van "right outside of the property," and would casually check the mail and bins in the garden. One day, Tahlia alleged that the woman was sitting in the garden, having a cup of tea with a friend. Tahlia reported this to the real estate agency, who reportedly responded: "That's the owner, she's going back to Queensland soon, it's all going to be fine." @tahlz89 Sometimes we drive past the place to see if the van’s there and usually it is ?? #rentalcrisisaustralia #rentalcrisissydney #nightmareowner #rentingaustralia The clip left fellow TikTokers stunned, with one writing: "What the heck glad you're out of that place!" Another added: "I would have exposed her on Current Affair! obviously she had some troubles, but that is no excuse to use your things sorry "steal" How awful." Meanwhile, a third commented: "This is insanity, are you kidding me?!! I’m so glad you’re out of there!!!!" Have your say in our news democracy. Lizzo breaks silence on 'sensationalised' accusations against her
Lizzo has broken her silence on the "wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing" accusations held against her. Two of the singer's former dancers, Arianna Davis and Crystal Williams, appeared on NBC News, where they alleged she gave "thinly veiled" comments towards their appearance. "I just had this feeling that they had a problem with the way I was gaining weight and looking different and that I wasn’t 'the same' as when they first cast me," Davis said. A hidden iPhone setting has been discovered that drains your battery
A hidden iPhone setting has been discovered that drains your battery
There's nothing worse than the dreaded 10 per cent battery alert kicking in while out and about and no charger at hand. Well now, a hidden iPhone setting that could be draining your battery has been revealed – and most people don't even know it exists. The 'Wi-Fi Assist' setting is a program to monitor your phone's connection. When there's no Wi-Fi, your phone automatically switches to 4G/5G. All the while, it will be working overtime in the background to maintain a connection with the Wi-Fi, despite it being on one bar. "For example, if you're using Safari with a poor Wi-Fi connection and a webpage doesn't load, Wi-Fi Assist will activate and automatically switch to cellular so that the webpage continues to load," the Apple website explains. While this is a great feature for smooth internet browsing, it could very well be draining out the battery life and mobile data. To turn this off, all you need to do is head to Settings > Mobile Data > Wi-Fi Assist and simply switch it off. To really max iPhone battery life, you can also use Low Power Mode, turn down the brightness and limit Location Services, which can be found in Settings > Privacy. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter It comes after the news that the iPhone 15 Pro battery life could very set new records. According to reports, there are rumours of two major updates that involve prolonging that much-needed battery. Laptop Mag suggested that Apple users could expect a larger battery, without the need to bulk up the device. In June, Twitter leaker AppleTrack claimed to have information on the capacity of the iPhone 15. Have your say in our news democracy. Francia Raisa says Selena Gomez didn't 'force' her to donate her kidney
Francia Raisa has insisted there is no drama between her and Selena Gomez after a string of feud rumours online. During an appearance on Josh Peck's Good Guys podcast, the How I Met Your Father actress poured water on the claims that she was "forced" to donate Gomez her kidney. Raisa donated her kidney to the 'Lose You to Love Me' singer in 2017 when she battled lupus, a condition that affects the immune system. "I've said this before, but that was a time where I just felt it in my heart," Raisa said on the episode. "No one forced me to do anything." The 35-year-old continued: "It came out of the genuine kindness of my heart, and I've been super blessed ever since." She went on to speak about how the news broke in the press. "She and I went public with our situation years ago, and honestly, we had to," Francia explained. "The press got ahold of the story and we wanted to tell it. As for what’s going on lately…does anyone prep you for this kind of stuff? Never. We never get prepped for this kind of stuff. It always catches me by surprise." However, rumours were rife last year when Gomez said Taylor Swift was her only friend in the industry. "You guys, there’s no beef," Raisa told podcast hot Peck. "Whenever I thought about my name being in the press, I never thought about it like this," she also admitted. "I always thought about it from an actor’s perspective." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Fans have speculated about the pair's relationship online for years, prompting the actress to turn off her comments. "I can’t read the comments because I don’t do well with it," she admitted. "Sometimes I disappear because people are mean. People are so mean." Giant iceberg drifts off coast of Canada: 'Looks like the backdrop for a scary movie'
A viral clip of a giant iceberg drifting close to the shores of Newfoundland has left viewers shocked. Footage taken from land showed an absolutely colossal iceberg just off the coast of the Canadian island on the country’s east coast. The clip was first posted on TikTok by @emoinuoinam who revealed the video was taken in Conche, Newfoundland and said the iceberg was “getting closer to the community”. According to National Geographic, the icebergs that drift east towards to coast of Newfoundland are typically bits of Greenland's glaciers that have broken off. Compared to the previous three years, the size of these icebergs is on the rise. One person wrote: “Omg, it looks beautiful but can be dangerous.” Someone else said: “Oh my goodness that is amazing.” Another shocked viewer asked: “Like what do you do in this situation?” “I am from Newfoundland and that’s a nice break and they always come down like that sometimes smaller sometimes huge,” a local person explained. Antarctica is missing 2.6 million square kilometres of sea ice and experts are baffled
Antarctica is missing 2.6 million square kilometres of sea ice and experts are baffled
Scientists are stumped after learning that Antarctica is missing a gigantic amount of sea ice that measures up to four times the size of Texas. It's currently the middle of winter in the Southern Hemisphere, a time when sea ice is expected to expand. However, Antarctica has witnessed a drastic decrease. Sea ice is said to be controlled by a balance between the atmosphere and oceans each year. Dr Steve Rintoul, CSIRO Fellow and Research Team Leader, explained [via the Sydney Morning Herald]: "The factors that influence sea ice include winds from north to south are stronger than usual which pushes sea ice towards Antarctica and restricts how far sea ice spreads. "The warmer water means there is less sea ice, and even things like melting the surface melt can alter sea ice forming." Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) shows that the ice was more than 2.6 million square kilometres below the 1981 to 2010 average. While it's natural for levels of sea ice to change, Dr Rintoul noted that this is the lowest amount recorded in the last 40 years. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Despite factors such as the atmosphere playing its part, the exact reason behind the decline is baffling scientists. "It is stunning," Dr Rintoul said. "The fact is we don’t know why [we’ve got record low sea ice]. "No one predicted this, we don’t understand why this season is as low as it is." Eric Rignot of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of California, Irvine told Axios that it's too early to determine how responsible climate change is to this year's sea ice decline. He went on to note that when declines started in 2016, researchers couldn't say whether it was part of a larger trend. "Now, we can say with a bit more certainty that this is not anomalous behaviour — it's a change of state," he told the outlet. Have your say in our news democracy.
