Comedian Rhod Gilbert shared an emotional moment with viewers this week after revealing that he had rung the bell signifying the end of his cancer treatment. In a tearful video, the Welshman told a gathering of friends and family: “You’ve got me through.” He then rang the bell at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment in Cardiff, addressing nurses and doctors by saying: “I’m ringing that bell to say thanks to you.” Gilbert first revealed he had stage four head and neck cancer in July 2022, and has been receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the last year. However, he recently received his first clear cancer scan since undergoing treatment at the Velindre Cancer Centre. The clip was from his documentary A Pain in the Neck, which spans the year between receiving his diagnosis and getting the all-clear. A tearful Gilbert said people had been “bringing me meals and giving me lifts [to hospital] every day” and “making me creams for my neck”. The side effects from chemotherapy and radiotherapy are especially brutal when cancer strikes in the head and neck. Gilbert’s entire mouth and throat became covered in ulcers, making it impossible to swallow or keep food down because of nausea. At one point, the comedian was hospitalised because he was unable to eat, and he lost two stone during the treatment. “When I got cancer, to be honest, I was terrified. So I wanted to do something to take my mind off it, make the whole thing feel less scary, and maybe help other people, too. “So I decided to film it all. I really hope that my story gives you a little hope.” Fans on social media were quick to praise Gilbert for his candour in making the show. One called the end of his treatment a “beautiful moment”. Another person said: “Watched your show tonight and I’m so happy you’ve got through this. “I was in the Heath hospital sat behind you and you looked so sad, so I handed you my good luck angel with peace written on it. This is such good news.” And one other added: “My heart fell when I saw Rhod Gilbert was trending, so happy to see it’s because he had finished his cancer treatment.” While laughs were in short supply during the year of filming, the comedian managed to fit in a couple of quips. In Gilbert’s first chemo session, the nurse warned him about side effects, saying that he must use protection if he is sexually active. Gilbert responded: “I’ve got one tonsil, no teeth, a f***ing feeding bag in my stomach and I’m on chemotherapy – the last thing I’m thinking of is going home for a shag.” He had been a patron of the Velindre Cancer Centre for a decade before getting his diagnosis. He said: “All those 10 years as a patron. I’ve heard time and time again how this place is incredible, and how people who work here are bloody angels. “I’ve heard it so many times, and I never thought I’d experience it myself, but I have. Travis Barker has shut down rumours he ever hooked up with Kim Kardashian after comments resurfaced from his 2015 memoir. The Blink-182 drummer's past remarks in which he called Kim "hot" and admitted to "secretly checking her out" resurfaced on social media after a clash between Kourtney and Kim aired on The Kardashians. The fight showed Kourtney expressing how she felt as though Kim was using her wedding as a "business opportunity," calling her an "egotistical narcissist" and a "witch" that she "f***ing hates". Barker, who tied the knot to Kourtney last year and is the soon-to-be father of their first child together, has since called the hook up claims "ridiculous". "You give people a little information and they think they’ve solved the mystery of ‘this is why they’re fighting.’ It’s just so ridiculous," he told the Los Angeles Times. "It’s like, ‘Kourtney’s fans are worried about Travis. He’s a womanizer.’ Stop it," he continued. Speaking about his memoir, he said he wanted to share "all that stuff because I wanted to move past it". "It was therapeutic for me," he added. "That’s her sister," he said, referring to Kim. "She knows we used to talk. Nothing bad was going on." This isn't the first time the rumours have been addressed either, after Kim turned to social media back in 2021 when a fan asked had the pair ever hooked up. "NO! False narrative!" she wrote on her Instagram Story. "We’ve been friends for years, and I’m so happy for him and Kourt." Friends fans are remembering Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing following the actor's death, and most notably, his heartbreaking final scene in the franchise. 'The One Where They Say Goodbye', which aired in 2004, perfectly rounds off the series, showing the gang leaving their iconic apartment behind, with Monica and Chandler clutching their baby twins. "Should we get some coffee?", Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) suggests before the couple move to their new home. In the ultimate uplifting goodbye, Chandler simply responds: "Sure...where?", alluding to the Central Perk coffee house that became a central setting for the characters. The death of Friends star Matthew Perry has prompted an outpouring of grief from people worldwide, including Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. The two went to school together at the Rockcliffe Park Public School in Ottawa, Canada, and Trudeau shared his sadness at Perry’s passing on X/Twitter. He said: “Matthew Perry’s passing is shocking and saddening. I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them. “Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed.” But among those “schoolyard games” was something altogether more violent, Perry admitted in 2017. Speaking on a talk show about his schooling, the Friends actor said: “My friend ... who was also in the fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau. “We both beat him up. I think he was excelling in a sport that we weren’t, so it was pure jealousy.” What’s more, Perry was playing with fire, because Trudeau’s father, Pierre, was prime minister at the time. Perry continued: “I think he was the only kid in school that we could beat up. “You know, I’m not bragging about this. This is terrible. I was a stupid kid, I didn’t want to beat him up.” And it seems like the fight stuck with Trudeau too, who took a rare opportunity one April Fools’ Day to challenge Perry to a rematch. He tweeted in 2017: “I've been giving it some thought, and you know what, who hasn't wanted to punch Chandler? How about a rematch?” Judging from the size of Trudeau’s security operation, which costs nearly £18m-a-year, according to CBC, he might have had some difficulty. A clip from Matthew Perry's interview with Stephen Colbert just last year has resurfaced following the actor's death, as he opened up on a previous health scare he had in 2019 - causing his heart to stop for five minutes. The Friends star was discussing the contents of his new book, when he spoke of how he had to turn down a role in Don't Look Up, because he'd had to receive CPR. "The guy who saved my life broke eight ribs in the process", he recalled. "They gave me propothal and my heart stopped for five minutes." Perry's autopsy has so far been inconclusive.
