Chris Christie mocks Trump’s ‘top secret’ plan for ending Ukraine war: ‘Move over Churchill’
Chris Christie mocks Trump’s ‘top secret’ plan for ending Ukraine war: ‘Move over Churchill’
Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie has mocked rival Donald Trump’s take on ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, quipping: “Move over Churchill”. The former president announced he had a “one-day” plan for ending the war in Ukraine, stating in an interview with Fox News that he knew the leaders of Ukraine and Russia “very well” and that he would “have the deal done in one day”. But Mr Trump’s comments were ridiculed by Mr Christie, who invoked British wartime leader Winston Churchill in his mockery of his foe. “Breaking news… Donald Trump has released his Top-Secret plan for ending the war in Ukraine in 24 hours,” Mr Christie tweeted. “The Plan: He knows Putin and Zelensky “very well” and will make a couple calls. Move over Churchill, Trump is here to save the day.” Mr Trump’s unique approach to foreign policy saw him enter into a war of words with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his tenure as US president, while his relationship with Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelensky saw the US president impeached for the first time after offering Mr Zelensky a quid-pro-quo if Ukraine looked into Hunter Biden. Asked about being able to end the war, Mr Trump referenced the call that led to his impeachment. “I know Zelensky very well. I felt he was very honourable because when they asked him about the perfect phone call I made, he said it was indeed perfect ... he didn’t even know what they were talking about,” he said. “I know Zelensky very well and I know Putin very well – even better. And I had a good relationship, very good, with both of them. I would tell Zelensky ‘No more – you gotta make a deal’, I would tell Putin, ‘If you don’t make a deal we’re gonna give em a lot – we’re gonna give ‘em more than they ever got, if we have to.’” “I would have the deal done in one day. Harry Styles fans hail Madame Tussaud's waxworks as 'most accurate ever'
Harry Styles fans hail Madame Tussaud's waxworks as 'most accurate ever'
Harry Styles is the latest celebrity to be replicated in wax form as Madame Tussauds has unveiled not one, but seven wax figures of the popstar after receiving "thousands of fan requests." The seven waxworks will be on display at museums in London, New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Berlin, Singapore and Sydney, each of them sporting some of the singer's iconic looks from recent years. In London, the Harry figure wears a double-breasted hunter green blazer, large flower broach, pistachio green trousers, ivory boots and a bright green handbag, the look is paired with a classic pearl necklace jewellery which references Styles's My Policeman premiere outfit during the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter After it took 10 months for Madame Tussauds’ artists to complete, the public can see the figure for themselves when it premieres on July 27. In New York, the Harry waxwork will sport the memorable sequin rainbow jumpsuit wore during his 2022 headlining Coachella set, while Berlin's figure will wear Styles's another of his Coachella costumes - an oversize faux fur coat paired with a metallic leather waistcoat and trousers. While some of the other figures will don outfits the As It Was singer has previously worn during his Love On Tour concert series. Sydney’s Styles figure dons a pink satin shirt, burgundy trousers and a feather boa, from one of his shows in San Jose, California. A bronze sequin vest with fringe attached originally worn at a gig in Long Island, New York, is what the LA wax figure will have on, while in Amsterdam it will be a a pink double-breasted suit with floral embroidery, similar to a look he wore on stage in Dallas. For Singapore's Styles waxwork, a blue and yellow two-piece from the Glasgow leg of his Love On Tour concert series will be sported. But what do Harry fans make of the waxwork - here are some of the best reactions to the Harry Styles London waxwork: Many were impressed with the images they saw of the figure, describing it as "scary accurate." Though others disagreed, and while they note it isn't the worst waxwork they've seen, they noted how "something is off." While others made some comparisons, from Margaret Thatcher to Princess Diana, Benedict Cumberbatch and Don't Worry Darling co-star Chris Pine... Fans can see the Harry Styles waxwork in person at Madame Tussauds in London from July 27. Have your say in our news democracy. Coleen Nolan becomes fourth sister in her family to be diagnosed with cancer
Coleen Nolan becomes fourth sister in her family to be diagnosed with cancer
Coleen Nolan has revealed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer, making her the fourth sister in the family pop group The Nolans to have the disease. The Loose Women star, 58, spoke about her diagnosis on the talk show on Monday (17 July) and said she was “sick of cancer” in her family. Three of Nolan’s sisters have been diagnosed with the illness over the years. In 2013, Bernie died of breast cancer at the age of 52, while Linda announced this year that her cancer has spread to her brain. A third sister, Anne, has undergone successful treatment for cancer twice and is currently in remission. However, she has previously spoken out about her fears that it will return. Coleen told ITV viewers that the skin cancer was only caught by chance after she went to a dermatologist for a different problem. The doctor said that the patch was a common skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, she recalled. “I went back in and he was very good and he said, ‘Look, it’s nothing to worry about. It is actually a cancer that doesn’t necessarily spread, but you do need to treat it’,” she recalled. She is now undergoing treatment using chemo cream, with the option of surgery if it does not work. Coleen said her “first instinct” after receiving the diagnosis was to “laugh hysterically”. “I just thought that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard anybody say,” she continued. “I’m sick of cancer and also, my first instinct was, I’m not telling anybody in my family because this that I’ve got at the moment seems nothing compared to what my sisters have been through.” She also reflected on Linda’s current condition. In March, Linda shared the news that she was about to start chemotherapy again, and moved into her sister Denise’s home the following month to prepare for “the inevitable”. “What Linda is going through, where it has gone to her brain and she’s having chemo,” Coleen said. “It just seemed so pathetic for some reason to go back and go, ‘Oh yeah, I’ve got a carcinoma’.” After the show, Linda posted on Twitter that she was “very proud” of her younger sister. “She acted on her instincts, found something amiss and got it checked,” the 64-year-old singer wrote. “If you spot something out of the ordinary for you, PLEASE get it checked. Don’t be frightened.” Coleen has previously said she considered undergoing a double mastectomy after Linda and Anne’s diagnoses of breast cancer. She has also had a breast cancer scare in 2009, while competing on Dancing On Ice – however, the lump in her breast at the time turned out to be an infected gland. She told The Mirror: “I’ve been lying in bed at night, looking down at my breasts and thinking, ‘Am I just walking around with two timebombs here?’ If that’s a possibility, maybe I need to get rid of them.” The TV personality said she believes the cancer affecting her sisters “could be down to a rogue gene from my dad’s side of the family”. Some forms of cancer can run in families, with the risk of developing breast cancer, bowel cancer or ovarian cancer increasing if close relatives have previously developed the conditions. However, it does not mean that a person will definitely have cancer if their close relatives have it. According to the NHS, it is estimated that between three and 10 in every 100 cancers are associated with an inherited faulty gene. The Nolans comprised Coleen, Linda, Denise, Bernie and Maureen Nolan. They are one of the world’s biggest selling girl groups and their international hits include “I’m in the Mood for Dancing”, “Gotta Pull Myself Together”, and “Chemistry”. Homer Simpson's best meme has been turned into an Adidas trainer
Homer Simpson's best meme has been turned into an Adidas trainer
We all know the GIF where Homer Simpson backs into a bush. Well now, Adidas might have created its best collaboration yet, by combining the famous meme and their classic Stan Smith trainer. The GIF, taken from a 1994 episode of The Simpsons, has been widely used online to express embarrassment in certain situations. "Him coming through the hedges was based on my childhood behaviour of walking through hedges in my neighbourhood. I would pretend that I was dimension-hopping," David Mirkin, who was a showrunner at the time, explained. "You can only do it a few times before you leave a hole, and so I did tens of thousands of dollars of damage to people’s hedges I’m sure." The iconic meme can now be found on the back of the Adidas trainer – and we must admit, they nailed the bush's texture. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The collaboration is already going down a treat on Twitter with one writing: "These are incredible. The texture of the bush definitely going to have to grab a pair of these." "Damn I need those in my life," another added, as a third reiterated: "These are actually brilliant." Meanwhile, one eagle-eyed creative joked: "Man I wish Homer was a lil more into the bush in the right shoe." This isn't the first time one of the show's characters has appeared on an Adidas shoe. In 2022, the Adidas Superstars payed homage to Marge Simpson and her famed blue do. The Adidas Stan Smiths featuring the Homer meme will reportedly be released on August 18, according to Sneaker Leakers. Indy100 reached out to Adidas for comment. Have your say in our news democracy. Adam22's 'beef' with Jason Luv explained after infamous Lena the Plug sex scene
Adam22's 'beef' with Jason Luv explained after infamous Lena the Plug sex scene
Porn isn’t exactly known for its complex plotlines, but one adult film has spawned a whole manner of twists and turns. We’re referring to the now infamous collaboration between podcaster Lena the Plug and blue movie star Jason Luv. At the end of June, the pair teamed up for a wildly explicit sex scene with the blessing of Lena’s huband Adam22. However, three weeks on from the steamy encounter, Adam22 posted a diatribe against Louisiana-born Luv, telling him he was “officially blacklisted from smashing [his] wife again”. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter So what’s gone down between the three of them? And how did this ridiculous situation all come about? Here’s everything you need to know (and a lot that you probably don’t) about porn’s latest big fallout. How did this all begin? In a recent episode of his ‘No Jumper’ podcast, Adam22 (real name Adam Grandmaison) and Lena (full name Lena Nersesian) revealed how the seeds of the scene were planted at the very start of the year. Adam22 explained that they were in Las Vegas back in January when they bumped into Luv. Addressing his wife, the YouTuber recalled: “I said, ‘Who's the hottest girl here?’ And then [Luv] put his arm around you and walked away with you.” He then noted that the clip racked up nine million views and saw Lena flooded with requests to film a scene with the porn legend. So, just before their wedding in May, Lena said she messaged Luv and told him: “Hey, I'm going to get married and [go] on my honeymoon, but when I come back we should shoot’. “And he was like, ‘OK’.” However, it wasn’t until June, when they all ended up in Las Vegas again, that they finally got down to business. Lena said she and her hubby were having breakfast one morning when she pointed out that Luv was in town. “I was like, ‘I think I'm going to shoot with Jason tomorrow,’ and you were like, ‘OK’, and I walked away,” she recollected. “I went to wash the dishes or something, and then I come back and you're just like, ‘No facial, no kissing,’ – that was the extent of the conversation. “And then I left the next day to do it. And you barely said bye to me because you were playing poker.” Why was it a big deal? Adam22 and Lena are known for their ‘Plug Talk’ show, which sees them interview a female porn actor, then have sex with her at the end of the episode. But this was the first time she’d had sex with another man since the start of her relationship with the YouTuber seven years ago. During their ‘No Jumper’ chat, the couple estimated that they’d had around 200 threesomes together over the years – almost 100 for ‘Plug Talk’, plus “a bunch in our private life, plus a bunch for [Lena’s] OnlyFans”. However, her tryst with Luv was her “debut scene with another man”, they said. What was the response to the sex scene? According to Lena, she’d received “a lot of positive reaction”, while Adam22 had been subjected to a lot of “hate”. "He can handle it, he's a big boy,” she told TMZ in the immediate aftermath, before stressing: "There's way weirder sexual things out there than what we currently have going on." The content creator then defended her fella against taunts that he was a “simp” for allowing his wife to sleep with another man. "I've had 200 threesomes with him and women. Is that a simp?” she asked. "Someone who's been given all of this sexual experience and I get one guy and it's like a big deal?" In a separate interview for Adin Ross' YouTube channel she admitted that she found her experience with Luv "interesting and fun." Asked if she would “choose Jason over [her] husband”, she replied: "I have had sex with one person for seven years, and although Adam is very exciting to me sexually, a new experience is always going to be a little more interesting and different. "Adam could attest to that,” she continued. “A lot of the threesomes we have are probably a lot more fun than him just f**king me on a regular night." Still, she stressed, she was happy with her lot. Telling Ross: “I had fun with Jason, but I still have a lot of fun with my partner and I don't prefer Jason's d**k over Adam's." How did Adam22 feel once the scene was done? “I felt a little jealous at first,” he admitted in a tweet a week after the collaboration. “But overall it wasn’t that big a deal. “She’s watched me sleep with hundreds of girls and it’s never affected our relationship,” he continued. “Sleeping with that gentleman has been amazing for both her career and our business [‘Plug Talk’]. Overall I’m glad we did it.” He later proved that he fully embraced the whole thing by lavishing his wife with an extravagant gift. The self-styled hip-hop expert posted a video to social media showing Lena standing with her eyes closed next to a green Lamborghini. Addressing the camera, he then announced: “OK, Lena, I’m so proud of you doing your first ever BBC scene that I decided that I wanted to get you a little something nice.” She then opened her eyes and shrieked: “What? This? For me? Babe!” before embracing her husband. (For the avoidance of doubt, “BBC” does not refer to the British Broadcasting Corporation here but to a very explicit slang term that we most certainly don’t endorse.) @adam22 Got my baby something nice to celebrare her new scene! Love you boo ❤️ @Lena The Plug What has Luv had to say about it all? In an interview for the X-rated YouTube show ‘The Fan Bus’, Luv was initially full of praise for Adam22 and Lena, saying he felt “honoured that they think so highly of me that they would want me to be the first male she shoots with after so long”. He bragged that he hit the podcaster with “all the best moves” during their scene, adding that he “was catching cramps in places I didn't even know I could catch a cramp”. Luv admitted that the mum-of-one was “mad nervous” in the run-up to the big moment, telling his host that she was “shaking” and “giggly” and told him: “I feel like I'm cheating on my husband.” He said he reassured her that she wasn’t cheating – that she had “permission” – and helped her to “calm down”. The 38-year-old then acknowledged that there’d been some discussion of a threesome between Adam22, Lena and him, and confirmed that he was on board with the idea. “[It’s my job to make money,” he said. However, any hopes he harboured for a “round two” with the couple were swiftly, and categorically dashed, thanks to his next comments. Asked, in the most direct way possible: “Do you think that you f**ked [Lena] better than Adam did?” he replied: “Well, obviously, yes.” But, he acknowledged: “I'm pretty sure [it] probably feels different with Adam, for her, because love is involved – emotions – but as for the physical aspect of getting fucked, obviously.” The interviewer then asked Luv if he still thought he’d be a better lover to her during a threesome involving Adam22, to which he responded: “100 per cent. “It would be like [...] about. And obviously I'm the stronger fighter, so I'm away.” How did that go down with Adam22? Perhaps unsurprisingly, he didn’t take too kindly to Luv’s assessment. Positively seething with rage in a video uploaded to Twitter on Monday night, he said: “Hey, Jason Luv, I trusted you to p**k my wife and it seems like that clout is getting to your head. I'm talking real, real spicy and I ain't really feeling it.” Defending his own honour, he chose to make two key points, the first being that “the angle of the dangle is more important than the cubit of the pubic.” “Number two,” he continued: “My D game, when I'm serving it, man, it's just like your mum's home cooking because there's a special ingredient – it's called love. You ever heard of it?” He then moved onto an ominous third point, threatening Luv: “Don't make me expose you, and you know what I'm talking about – it could get real, real messy out here.” Wrapping up his tirade, he warned: “You don't want problems moving around in these LA streets cause I can make that happen. I'm very, very well connected.” He then concluded with his final point, telling the porn star: “You are officially blacklisted from smashing my wife again.” What happens next? So far, there’s been silence from the Luv camp in response to Adam22’s threats. But everyone wants to know the secrets the ‘No Jumper’ host claims he could easily “expose”. All we can say at this stage is that a threesome is definitely off the cards. And, clearly, there’s no luv lost between them all now. Have your say in our news democracy. These are the phrases working mums want to stop hearing – survey
These are the phrases working mums want to stop hearing – survey
More than half (55%) of working mums want to change workplace lingo, as insensitive or ill-thought comments from colleagues can add to their challenges, new research has found. Remarks by co-workers made towards working mums ranged from ‘she’s only part-time’ and ‘I forgot you leave early’, to ‘I wish I could have Fridays off’ and ‘I bet it feels like a break coming into the office’ – according to the survey of 1,000 working mothers commissioned by Maltesers, which has just launched its #MotherLover campaign to help lighten the load and encourage support for working mums. The poll found 63% of working mums feel they need to work harder to prove themselves, and 46% say they need to convince co-workers that their change in hours doesn’t impact their output. Nearly two-thirds (63%) believe colleagues mean no harm when they make insensitive comments however, and 26% admit a co-worker has corrected themselves midway through saying something ill-informed to working parents. “It’s no surprise many of these comments are about part-time work. There is a pervasive stigma that working part-time means a lack of commitment and ambition in the workplace,” said Catherine Gregory, head of marketing and communications at the Working Families charity. “To change the often-negative narrative around women – especially mothers – working part-time and flexibly, we need a radical shift in workplace culture. Not only could this curb negative comments about mothers at work, but it could also support mothers’ career progression.” Maltesers has teamed up with women’s online community Peanut to create the Work & Motherhood content hub, providing advice about the challenges working mothers face. “Every day on Peanut, women talk about the harmful phrases that have become so normalised in reference to mothers and motherhood – making change in this area is long overdue,” said Peanut founder and CEO, Michelle Kennedy. “As a mother of two myself, I understand the impact these phrases can have. When I attend networking events I’m often asked, ‘Who’s taking care of the kids?’ or ‘How do you balance it all?’ and I’m pretty sure male founders aren’t asked the same questions.” Kennedy points out that working mums are constantly juggling. “Harmful phrases and assumptions can really feed into feelings of guilt and perpetuate this idea that women should take on the bulk of responsibilities,” she adds. “The reality is, words matter. Juggling parenting alongside work can be a struggle, and we need to shift the focus in attitudes, empathy and terminology.” These are the comments the survey found working mums want to stop hearing… ‘You look tired’Kennedy says it’s OK to acknowledge you’re tired at work, but points out: “Colleagues might be forgetting quite how much you’re juggling every day. Sharing some insight with your colleague or employer might help them understand.” ‘She’s only part-time’Part-time work is undertaken by 38% of women, compared to 11% of men, says Kennedy, who stresses women often work part-time so they can manage looking after their family. “Challenging assumptions about part-time work can break down the stigma that part-time work is a reflection of commitment, rather than a way to manage responsibilities,” she says. ‘I forgot you leave early’It can work well if mothers map out their availability in their calendar to help alleviate comments like this, Kennedy suggests. “It’s a good reminder for colleagues. Also, don’t be afraid to remind colleagues ahead of time when you’ll be leaving for commitments – even a quick reminder at the start of a meeting that you need to round up on time can be really effective.” ‘Wish I could have Friday off’ Kennedy says the Peanut community advises other mums to respond to these types of comments positively. “It’s likely your colleague means well, but remind them why you have Fridays off and what this allows you to do in terms of childcare,” she says. ‘I bet it feels like a break coming into the office’“Reply honestly – for many, having space away from home can be a much-needed distraction,” Kennedy points out. “Mothers who care for their children full-time are doing an unbelievable amount of work as well!” ‘I could never do that’Kennedy says it can sometimes seem impossible to avoid motherhood shame, but she stresses: “There are no winners in the debate of work-life balance and professional choices. Do what’s best for you and your family – never allow the negative narratives to deter you from doing what’s best for you.” ‘Enjoy the rest of the week off!’ The rest of your ‘week off’ is likely to involve changing nappies, juggling schedules, and trying to maintain some semblance of self-care – and Kennedy points out that research suggests motherhood is equivalent to 2.5 full-time jobs. “Motherhood is no joke!” she says. “While comments like this may mean well, many women on Peanut have used this opportunity to have frank conversations about the challenges motherhood can bring.” ‘Must be nice to get a lie-in’ If you’re part-time or on flexi hours, Kennedy suggests mums have an open conversation with your colleague or employer around comments like this – “to shine a light on the realities of being a working mum. For many mothers, lie-ins are a thing of the past,” she adds. ‘Can your partner do any of the childcare?’Again, Kennedy stresses it’s best to be open and honest about your circumstances. “For example, some mothers on Peanut have shared how their partner’s organisations don’t offer progressive policies for parents.” ‘It must be busy having the children home during the school holidays’If you’re working from home, school holidays can impact your response time or working hours, Kennedy points out. “It’s important to communicate that you will be busy and have a few more balls to juggle – between meets, sports clubs and lunches. Remember it’s ok to foster discussions about your needs.” Read More Charity boss speaks out over ‘traumatic’ encounter with royal aide Ukraine war’s heaviest fight rages in east - follow live Get up and glow with this energising morning workout Support with mental health issues and finances should be linked – Martin Lewis Why does my washing machine smell so bad?
